Chat Group For Magicians - Chapter 213
Our arrival to the demon lands will label us as allies of demons at this point by the humans but that doesn’t mean all humans are enemies. All of those humans who will label us as one will be the only ones who will be labeled by us as enemies.
According to the villages we have asked so far, they all said that demons are dangerous creatures, and they will not tolerate humans in their domains and will eat them without hesitation. They also use dark arts and many other kinds of things degrading them. However, the more we are farther from the kingdom, the more the view of demonfolks changed. The last village of humans we stayed in is in a neutral relationship with the demonfolk.
They don’t view the demonfolk antagonistically like we thought they would. Instead, they would sometimes come in contact with them to conduct business. We just never saw them interact because the people here are currently making precautions against the spying eyes of the kingdom. One wrong move and the kingdom might deploy armies and annihilate the whole village.
Also, if we say demonfolk, they are different kinds of beings to the demons we fight against on Earth. Demonfolk is the classifications of demi-humans like beastfolk and other entities that are not human or elf race that can communicate to people. The racism of the humans is just so intense that I am ashamed that I am the same species as them. Still, I can’t deny that people in other world are still ignorant of these as they keep suggesting that the human race is the superior race of all.
We crossed the borders of human lands and we safely arrived on the demonlands without any kind of barrier that stops humans from crossing unlike on the human borders where they are always being scanned for suspicions on things.
“I just noticed but the demonlands seem to be a lot more desolate compared to the human territory?” Kyouya said as he points out the lands around us the moment we arrived.
“It’s more barren than the lands on the border of the human kingdom. The mana in the air is also much thinner compared to the human territory. Perhaps it is true that the demonfolk has used forbidden rituals causing the mana to slowly deteriorate?” Ishana mumbled.
“We can only assume that. We have no evidence that they used that kind of thing,” I said, contradicting what Ishana said.
“We will just have to find the evidence we needed and of course, set this place straight before finding the remaining targets so that we can go home,” Yami said
Once we passed the border and walk a few more hours north, we arrived in an eerie forest filled with black miasma and dark mana revolving around it. There is no alternative way for us to go around it to go deeper into the demonfolk territory. I even asked Yuto and Yuri to check the place out and check for any kind of place that we can use to bypass the place. A few moments later, the two returned shaking their heads.
“So in the end, we have to gamble on getting out of this forest? We might get lost while exploring it to find the exit,” Ishana said.
“Why not just fly over the forest?” Kyouya asked.
“If we can fly, we shouldn’t be walking right now and used it up a long time ago. And I don’t think his familiars are capable of bringing us to the other side by flying unless they are dragons or giant birds,” Yami rejected the idea.
“Well, that sucks.”
“Let’s go. We have no choice but to push forward and keep on going to the forest. If there are any enemies, we will beat them up.”
The rest nodded and we proceed to the dark forest. The moment we enter, we are immediately enveloped with the dark aura of the forest, slowly degrading our senses.
“Is this the reason why the humans are treating demonkind as real demons using black magic?” Ishana whipped her left arm and the dark aura enveloping us was immediately dispelled.
“It could be, humans will always be wary of things unexplainable to them and will always look for something to blame which in turn will cause the people to stigmatized the one they are blaming.”
Dispelling the dark aura allows us to safely wander around the place though it is dangerous if we didn’t since it cab corrupts our consciousness which in turn will stop us from sensing the real deal of the surroundings which will be in turn, you will be drained by your sanity and the worse, you might forever wander or die in this forest if not prevented.
The more we walk inside the forest’s interior, the more creepy and haunting the surroundings look. We can also feel something staring at us from the dark.
“How come the sunlight does not pass by here? The leaves of the trees are not that plenty and it does not cover the sky at all. Why is it that this place is looking so dim and gloomy?!” Ishana grumbled.
I was about to respond to her grumblings when I detected rapid movements on my back. Without bothering to warn my companions, I aim my finger and released a pea-sized electric ball.
Bzzt…
It was a small electric ball but the moment the rapidly moving creature collided with it, it immediately exploded.
“Huh?!”
The three who were surprised by the unsuspecting enemy turned around.
“Prepare guys! We are currently surrounded!”
In the dark patches of the bushes, red eyes are currently staring at us, with heavy breathing and growling sounds.
“Are those demonic beings?!” Kyouya goes on defensive and ready his fingers to cast the buff magic on us in case things get awry.
“It’s possible but we can’t be sure. Their auras are being covered by the dark aura the forest possesses. Scanning them is going to be hard.”
We are almost ready to deal with the creatures by slowly conjuring our magic spells when a very loud noise surprised us and the creatures, causing them to flee from all directions.
“What was that?”
The sound is loud enough that I can immediately differentiate it as a sound made by something else aside from the monsters. It might sound like one, but that was not even close.
Soon, someone appeared from the tall bushes. A person who was covered in fur, has dog-like ears, a long furry tail, and is currently carrying a big gun.
“Are you guys alright?”
We finally made contact with the first Demonfolk in this world.
