Chef in the Apocalypse - Chapter 21: Q & A
Chapter 21: Q & A
After a few minutes, Rubick cleared his throat and gathered everyone’s attention while still in his chibi 2d form on the screen. “If you have any questions, now is the time my dear supporters. Just press the red button in front of you.”
Jayce pondered for a moment, he did not have any burning questions due to the knowledge of his previous life. Now that he had been exposed to Rubick and the supporters, everything was beginning to become clear.
The next moment, a few names popped up in the bottom corner, flashing. Rubick waddled over to the corner of the screen and tapped on the first one, “#4 – Flame Caster”.
As soon as he did, a noticeably deep and robotic voice entered their ears, “May I ask how we create a faction? Does it work similar to how it did in Cataclysm: World’s End?”
A sound of surprise escaped Jayce’s mouth. He had been so focused on the larger picture that he did not even consider this question. Feeling a shiver run down his back, he shook his head and slapped his cheeks with both of his hands.
It looked like he would need to change his mindset. After all, what good would knowing the future be if he could not analyze and take advantage of the things that were in front of him at this moment. If Flame Caster had not asked this question, he likely could have missed out on the opportunity to attain the rewards of the World Quest.
He surmised that in his previous life, the supporters had completed the World Quests at least 10 times, saving humanity each year. However, the past had already changed now that he arrived. Perhaps he could have knocked out the best supporter by entering their ranks this time.
After all, there were only 100 supporters that had access to the World Quest, no more, no less. His mind ran wild and fear gripped his heart, a sudden feeling of helplessness washed over him in this moment.
His episode was interrupted by Rubick’s cheery voice, “Yes! You will have access to the Faction function in your system when you return. All you need to do is have 10 founding members to start one.”
Moving on, Rubick pressed the next name, #14 – Blood Reaper. The same voice as the previous person entered everyone’s ears, “Are there any penalties for killing another player?”
Jayce’s eyes widened, sucking in a deep breath. What the hell was wrong with this guy? He quickly made a mental note to not involve himself with the obviously psychotic Blood Reaper.
Rubick laid his head back and cackled, the laugh sounded eerie and grating to his ears. After a few moments, he managed to compose himself enough to answer. “Hehe, you ask a great question number 14… Unfortunately, if you kill another human, you will receive a penalty.”
‘A penalty?’ Tilting his head, Jayce was suddenly stunned. There were no such restrictions in his previous life, filling him with unease. ‘Has the past changed so much already?’
Jayce himself had killed a few humans during his 10 years of survival. The world had turned into a harsh place, and not every human was of sound mind. Some took advantage of the lawlessness, treating others as slaves and committing unspeakable acts. n𝑂𝑽ℯ/𝐿𝔟)1n
However, things were cleared up a moment later.
Rubick paused for a moment, adjusting his tophat, “However, this only applies to all of you, my dear supporters. We can’t have the “Heroes of Humanity” killing their own kind now can we?”
“And before you ask about the penalty…” He lifted his finger to his mouth in a shushing motion, “…It’s a secret. Hehehe”
“Penalty…” Jayce muttered, a frown forming on his face. The revelation would make things trickier in the future, particularly if he was left with no other choice. He did not enjoy killing people, however he was a pragmatic person. If the alternative was dying, he would not hesitate to take a life.
He pondered a moment before pressing the red button in front of him and speaking. “What is the time limit for completing the World Quest, and will the rewards be class-specific skills?”
Sitting back, he waited for Rubick to get to his question. After a few more questions that he already knew the answers to appeared, Rubick finally got to his name. Before pressing the notification on the screen, the small chibi looked directly at him and winked, startling Jayce.
“There he is, my number 1 supporter! Thank you for your patronage. I hope you are loving your special class that we assigned you, I picked it out myself after rummaging through your memories.”
“M-My memories?” Jayce muttered, dumbstruck. ‘What the hell is this guy going on about?? Why couldn’t he have made me into a supreme swordsman!’ he screamed in his heart, bitterness overflowing.
