Children of a Lesser God - Chapter 313: Hero's Are Not Born
Ruby was dressed in her classic black dress with the short skirt and high slit on the side. If one were to look closely enough, they would find that the had tiny little plates sown on it, forming an almost scale like texture that shimmered in the light. It truly looked like the black scales of some strange reptile molded into a form fitted dress.
Leona was sporting some incredibly short shorts along with a blue tank top. While this outfit didn’t look very battle ready, there were hints of the fabric being stiffer and a bit thicker than one would normally associate with that type of clothing. The goal is usually to have thinner fabric that breaths, but this was anything but that.
Malene was dressed in a short, black leather skirt over red and white leggings while the upper half of her seemed to be covered by a skin tight body suit. It looked both practical for workouts and fashionable at the same time. Vivi was dressed similarly to Malene, although her leggings were a deep purple color.
And last but not least, Kennedy stood there, in casual business attire of a button down white shirt with a beige skirt. He blonde hair was tied back in a pony tail, giving on the classic office worker feel. The only thing that stood out different from what would be normally worn were the number of loose fitted bracelets on her wrists, something that a normal office worker wouldn’t have.
As Kennedy stood there and surveyed the scene she first looked deeply and made eye contact with the bronze giant. Surprising enough, it was the giant that turned his head first before Kennedy then kept moving her gaze at everyone gather. Without fail, those that met her gaze in that instance couldn’t help but turn their heads as though having not the strength to keep staring. The only two exceptions was that Tommy didn’t feel anything from it except for thinking about how beautiful this woman was and how she looked familiar.
The other one who was unaffected and yet stared at all the same was Laz. In fact, after having taken a look at everyone standing opposed to them, Kennedy’s gaze ended up on Laz the longest, although there was no smile on her face.
In spite of the gathered army looking to bury her and everyone gathered on her side, Kennedy ignored all of them and after closing the door of the car, started walking straight towards Laz who was standing there a bit petrified.
Ignoring all else, Kennedy approached Laz and stood before him, having been many years since they had seen each other. Although they both understood the reasons for this, those reasons seemed rather flimsy now that they are finally face to face.
Or at least they would have been.
“You’ve grown taller,” Kennedy said with a voice as sweet as honey yet as hard as iron. Laz was still at a loss as to what to say. The last time they had met each other, Kennedy was still taller than Laz.
“Kennedy… I…”
“Shush. Whatever it is, it can wait until later. However…” Kennedy said, running her hands through Laz’s hair to straighten it and then working on smoothing out his clothes. Laz was still wearing the military threads he had gotten from Aaron back when they had entered the gate. For the most part, these were the only combat style clothing he had. Although it would seem cool to fight in jeans and a tee shirt or wearing a hoodie, those things were restrictive more than anything and would break down easily. Although these combat outfits weren’t protective in the slightest, they were many times more durable than normal wear.
“However?” Laz asked, almost wanting to back away. He felt many things from being close to her and one of those things he felt was akin to anger.
“However I would like to just say that I am quite impressed with how easily you seem to seduce girls. It makes one really think about how special she is to you,” Kennedy clarified before laying her arms on Laz’s shoulders and looking up slightly into his eyes.
“You already know how special you are to me,” Laz responded, without a hint of hesitation.
“I know. But sometimes a girl likes to be reminded of that. Be it me or any of my sisters, you’d better not make us feel like we no longer matter to you, do you understand?” Kennedy said, smiling for the first time.
Laz couldn’t help but almost stagger under the weight of that smile. There were a lot of meanings behind it and it was hard not to understand.
“Yes mam,” Laz simply said back.
“ARE YOU FUCKING DONE OVER THERE?” Tommy yelled, unable to take being ignored while having to watch these two flirt.
“I see you are just as impatient as always tiny dick…” Kennedy said, turning her gaze to look at Tommy while still holding Laz in her arms.
“Tiny dick? TINY DICK? WHO THE HELL TOLD YOU THAT… wait… wait… you’re her from then, aren’t you… uh… Karen… right? You’re Karen?!?” Tommy said, finally connecting some dots..
“You would think that you’d remember the girl who laughed at you before pushing you off of her when you got drunk that one time. Don’t worry baby. He was way to easy to control and a few laced pills every now and then made sure he couldn’t get it up. I know you’ve never asked and would never ask, but I just wanted to let you know.” This last part was directed at Laz, answering questions he wasn’t going to ask. There was an unspoken rule between him and the girls that he was never going to ask about their pasts unless they wanted to tell him about it. He didn’t care about the things they did, just the people they are now.
And that was one thing they loved about him.
“YOU BITCH…” Tommy was all set to charge forward and attack Kennedy, strangely though, it was the bronze giant that held him off.
“Easy young master. I sense something dangerous about her,” the giant warned.
“Are you telling me I can’t fight one little girl?” Tommy practically growled back.
“You can fight her and win, but only if you get the chance to do that without interference. Right now, there are too many by her side. Now though, you should follow through with your plan and calm down.”
Although the giant spoke respectfully, Tommy still felt like he was giving him orders and that wasn’t something he could tolerate. But for the sake of this fight, he knew he had to swallow it down for now. He already knew he couldn’t beat Laz. He would need the giant for that. Taking a deep breathe, Tommy steadied himself while still watching Kennedy, her eyes mocking him in disdain.
“Agent Wallace. I believe it’s time for you to take action,” Tommy said, indicating for Agent Wallace to step forward.
Although Agent Wallace had a lot of things he wanted to say, he knew that this moment was going to go down in history, one way or another. Therefore he had no choice but to choke back the words on the tip of his tongue and stick to the prepared script.
“Attention to all gathered. Acting on behalf of the Federal Government, we are here to arrest this man and hold him accountable for his actions of assaulting innocent civilians along with engaging in trespassing, attempted murder, impersonating a member of the armed forces and several other felonies. I advise everyone gathered to disperse immediately or face the risk of arrest as well. Those that leave today we will not persue or press charges. But if you stay, even if it’s to protest in a non-violent manner, you will be held accountable for your crimes to the fullest extent of the law,” agent Wallace announced while being filmed. They had taken a film crew along with them for the reason of broadcasting Laz’s crimes to the public in an effort to undo the damage the live stream had done. Strangely enough, all of the charges were indeed true, if not overly exaggerated.
What they didn’t count on was that in the news broadcast that had been sent to every major news network in the country, a lot of online activity was going on online as well. For people who hadn’t seen the livestream, they were attacking Laz for being like every other infected they heard about until other viewers who had seen the live stream directed them to the still posted video. Although some refused to believe the livestream was real, quite a few people started to understand that there was far more going on then they realized.
Now, all eyes were gathered on the many friends and acquaintances that had gathered to support Laz. No one knew his story with them, the contact they had been in or the things they had gone through. But even if they knew that, so what? Everyone wanted to see just how many of them would walk away from this. In fact, Tommy wanted nothing more than to see Laz’s face when those he counted on decided to abandon him. He knew more than anyone else about how many of them were involved in the gate crashing and such, but even then he didn’t believe for a second that so many strangers would put themselves at risk for another person. Even the people watching at home had the same question of how many people would walk away, even if they had no idea the whole story.
Strangely enough, after a few seconds of watching, no one moved at all.
Then, unexpectedly, Laz started laughing as though he had heard the funniest joke every. Seeing him laugh like this, even Kennedy couldn’t keep a smile off her face. Everyone else was looking on dead serious while Laz laughed.
Seeing Laz act this outrageous was enough to get everyone to turn their attention to him.
“Hey you. Agent of the United States government. Do you know why I’m laughing right now? It’s simple. You’re an idiot. Anyone who would say that is an idiot. I’m not sure if you’ve figured this out, but everyone who has gather here is my brother and sister. According to you people, each one of us is deemed a safety risk to the public and therefore are considered a threat. You’re saying if they don’t leave you will arrest them? So what? SO FUCKING WHAT? Even if they do leave, you’re going to fucking arrest them anyway the first chance you get. Look at us, mister federal agent. Each and every one of us is the bad guy in your eyes. I have no fucking clue what led you people to believe that these fucking degenerate, murdering, rapists, pieces of shit are somehow your chosen ones, but for the fucking love of all that is still rational in the god damned world, don’t insult our intelligence by trying to go high while acting like we are going low. Even the people watching must think you’re all out of your god damn minds with this bull shit. I do one little live stream and this is the response you come up with? To act like you’re just targeting the bad guy while being the heroes of justice or some shit? FUCK YOU. Let me tell you something. Everyone here fully plans to resist in a very violent manner so you can wipe that thought from your slimy, twisted head. That’s right. We. Are. Not. Going. Quietly! And if you start some shit, we will fuck you up.” Laz yelled, getting every thought off his chest with this one rant. He surprised himself, speaking so much in front of so many people. And yet, he didn’t feel bad about it in the least.
“What do you want? You want to walk away right now? We will only keep coming after you.” Although agent Wallace was rather taken back by Laz’s rather blunt speech, that didn’t faze him fro long.
“Walk away? Who said anything about walking away?” Laz mocked back, surprising those who thought that’s exactly what he wanted, even those on his side.
“Then what?” Agent Wallace yelled back, clearing getting pissed at not being answered.
“I want his head!” Laz said, pointing at the bronze giant who was standing there amused. While all this was going on, the camera’s had normally avoiding filming him. But after Laz pointed to him, there was no way they could ignore him anymore. Once the camera’s settled on the bronze giant, it cause quite a stir online.
Laz didn’t say anymore at this point and instead walked over to where Aaron, Freya, Helen, Remi, Leona, Malene, Ruby, Vivi and everyone else had gathered after clearing some room for his reunion with Kennedy. She, of course, followed close by.
“What the hell are you doing Laz?” Aaron asked when he walked up.
“Dis is not wise boy,” Madam Cal added.
“Why would you want to fight that thing?” Freya voiced her own concerns.
Laz’s response was a set of glittering gold eyes that locked each of them in place. The aura off his body was even more pronounced than anyone had ever seen. Minus the strongest standing in the group who felt their knees go weak, everyone else who was close by backed of several steps while trying to stay upright.
“He is currently weakened, yet even now he is stronger than me. If he gets a chance to return to full power, there is no way any of us could get strong enough, fast enough to oppose him. Right not, this moment, is our only chance of killing him before he begins killing us, one by one.”
“How much stronger than you, baby?” Kennedy her eyes taking on piercing green light.
“Right now, he is only one major realm stronger than me. His real strength is actually two major realms stronger, in terms of how their kind measure strength, which is based on their energy capacity.”
“You can fight someone that much stronger than you?” Freya asked, amazed. She was regaining her footing from Laz’s aura and releasing her own in response. She was beginning to understand that Laz wasn’t trying to intimidate them, he was instead provoking their fighting spirits.
“Normally, no. But that thing standing over there right now? It’s at best a low tier god. He would have been nothing more than a foot solder in the final wars between the pantheons.”
“God damn…”
“You’re kidding?”
“A foot solder?”
While everyone else looked at each other in disbelief, there was one person who didn’t take her eyes off Laz once and that was Kennedy.
“Something on your mind big sister?” Ruby said with a grin while poking Kennedy’s side.
“He’s grown so much…”
“You should find that out for yourself later…” Ruby said with a smirk.
“I didn’t mean that… I just meant… I don’t know. But I guess what they say is true. Hero’s are not born….”
