Children of a Lesser God - Chapter 314: They Are Molded By Fate
Laz only knew the giant’s true strength and level because it was something he was told. Honestly speaking, the little bit of blood that had been sealed and set within Laz’s foundation was like a constant stream of information, things that he would have no way of finding out otherwise. One has to remember that these things that Laz was experiencing were so far out of the realm of normal, just saying he was blazing a new path doesn’t nearly describe the scope of things. So there had been many things happening that people didn’t understand.
And a thirty foot tall giant was definitely a new one for most everyone here. No one knew a thing about it such as how strong it was. No matter how brave Laz’s friends were, there would be hesitation when going up against a monster like that. The scariest thing has always been the unknown.
Because of this, Laz was ecstatic with the information he had been getting as it was able to give everyone some piece of mind and he didn’t mind sharing.
But for those who he was speaking to; Kennedy, Freya, Aaron and everyone else who had been gathered, to them it seemed like Laz was omniscient. Not only that, but he was strong and solid, a pillar that could support those around them. Perhaps Aaron was the leader of his people and Freya the leader of her people. But when it came down to things like this large scale fight, that was something neither of them had experience with. So seeing Laz take the lead like this made him seem rather dazzling.
“Are you sure about this?” Kennedy asked Laz. Although she trusted his opinion, she also knew this was going to be a huge risk. Lives could be lost and there was no real reason to fight if they were going to let them all go.
“Yes. Besides, it’s too late for talks of peace,” Laz said, looking towards the roads behind the square. Everyone else looked over too and noticed that at some point, other divisions of troops had been stationed behind them while they were figuring out their next steps.
“Seems like you were never going to let any of us go, huh Agent?” Laz called out, a smile on his face. He had expected this.
“You had your chances, all be it a small one. Now, all of you will be arrested and held over for your crimes of aiding a known fugitive and treason to the country,” Agent Wallace responded with, a smile on his face for the first time. They never planned on letting anyone go. He just needed enough time to get the others in place.
“Seems like we have reached a wall in our negotiations. Ah well, this was never going to end peacefully anyway. Right now, you have a very deadly weapon in your hands that belongs to a far gone time. And I fully intend to send it back,” Laz declared.
To the surprise of almost everyone gathered, Laz practically disappeared from the spot he was standing on. Then, before almost anyone could react, Laz was in front of the ten foot bronze giant, throwing out a fist. The giant’s arms glowed brown for just a moment before both he and Laz flew backwards several steps.
Although a small shockwave boomed out due to the strength of the attack, not a sound could be heard.
As the situation currently stood, Laz and friends had been surrounded. In front of them were hundreds of military personal along with federal agents and those evolved/chosen bastards with a few news agency camera’s mixed in. Behind them was another several hundred military troops who had also brought heavy firepower into town. On the right hand side of where they were standing was the large square where the church used to be, now nothing more than a pile of ruins. And on the left were a collection of ruined buildings that the giant had demolished getting to Laz.
So in this instance, when surrounded and out numbered, Laz honestly didn’t know what to do. Instead, he had taken a deep breath and decided he would just follow his instinct.
And what did the blood that pumped inside of him tell him to do?
Attack.
Just as Tommy, Agent Wallace, the evolved, the troops and the other federal agents took in what had happened, they were soon bombarded with all different kinds of attacks as body after body rushed into their ranks, led by a woman with a snow white tail, captivating eyes and huge breasts. That’s right, Kennedy understood Laz the most and after he made his move, she followed along, giving everyone the green light to attack.
The safest place to be when surrounded by enemies was right in the middle of your enemies. Everyone who came to support Laz understood that mindset without needing to be told.
…
“Alright everyone. One last song tonight before we leave on our tour to promote our new album that’s actually making some noise. I just wanted to thank you all for your support in coming out here tonight,” yelled a guy with bright red hair and a sing song voice. The crowd, listening to his every word could help but cheer for him and his band.
“Alright guys, one more and then we are officially touring,” Leo turned and said to the guys standing behind him, earning smiles and grins from everyone.
“What do you think should be our final number boss?” Reggie asked, twirling a drum stick in his hand. That’s right, Reggie, the young man that Laz had taught a bit briefly about runes and fighting was now on stage with Leo as his drummer. And Leo couldn’t be happier since there weren’t many guys who could slam a beat like Reggie..
Just as Leo was about to suggest something, a rather beautiful young woman ran out on stage and up to Leo with an ipad in her hands and showed him what was on it.
“Oh my god… Damn… Thanks Dee… Yeah, get ready to put it up” Leo said, thanking Dee who then turn her head and blew a kiss at Reggie before walking back off stage, ignoring the cheers and whistling that followed her actions.
“Alright, well guys, we’ve got a special show and song for you all as an ending for tonight. Look at the various screens around the stage and in the bar and upstairs. Turns out our old head of security is on tv right now, showing just how strong he is down there in New Orleans. So for him, we got a little bit of the blues to come at you.” Leo didn’t say anything more but turned to his band and simply said “Howling at the Moon.”
With that, a screen dropped down on stage behind Leo and the band while all the screens changed over to the live feed of Laz and companies fight with the chosen.
Leo’s voice, normally rather higher and melodic suddenly became rather lower, blunt and growlish.
“I came from the mud
There’s dirt on my hands
Strong like a tree
There’s roots where I stand
Oh I’ve been running from the law
Hope they won’t shoot me down soon
Pacing on a sleepless night
Try to catch me howling at the moon
When it rains it pours
Water’s up to my chin
Won’t stop fighting
To the very end
Many men try to reach it
Many men have failed
If you wanna get to heaven
You gotta raise a little hell
Oh I’ve been running from the law
Hope they won’t shoot me down soon
Pacing on a sleepless night
Howling at the moon
Will you find me?
Hope you find me
I’ll be back home soon
When the sunrise
When the sun Rise
Try to catch me howling at the moon”
(Howling at the Moon-D Fine Us)
The crowd broke out in cheers while watching Laz’s fight, so much so they barely noticed when the song ended and Leo, Reggie and the band left the stage to watch the rest of the fight.
“Is your sister going to be ok?” Dee asked as she locked arms with Reggie.
“She’ll be fine. Besides, big bro Laz is with her,” Reggie responded with a smile, although as soon as Dee turned away, his smile went away as well.
‘Be safe sister!’ Reggie prayed.
…
“You think you can measure up to me?” The bronze giant mocked the young man standing before him. All around them, the sound of fighting, yelling and gun fire echoed among the ruins of the street.
“Don’t kill the normies. Just knock them out. The regular gun fire is of not treat to any of us,” Aaron yelled out as he punched out, knocking away a water wielding chosen. He was instructing his people to be lenient since the last thing any of them needed was to start a blood bath. The only plus side to this situation was that the high velocity rounds were currently with the other two troops so although they had been shot at before, no one had gotten hit. As long as they were surrounded by normal troops, their partners down the street were unable to fire at them for fear of hitting their allies. That combined with the fact that all of the infected moved rather quickly made it hard to target them.
“Take them out one by one and keep moving forward. We have to beach the line here to escape!” Freya yelled out, as she kept two chosen occupied herself.
As for Kennedy, she was trading blows with Tommy back and forth. Although his ice ability was stronger than most, her movements and speed made her especially hard to lock down. Kennedy could have escaped from him in a second but that would leave him free to attack her allies. None of them would be able to last long against Tommy.
“I swear to god I’m going to capture you, cut off all your limbs and then fuck you until I’m tired of you. Then I will give you to my dogs at home to be used when they are in heat, you hear me girl?”
“Fuck you and your little dick. I’d cut it off if I could even find it you piece of shit. Don’t think I don’t know what kinds of things you’ve done since the beginning. Me killing you will be beneficial to my karma as I rid the world of your filth,” Kennedy responded. Ever since she had taken her position, she had investigations launched on many of the top evolved, Tommy included. Despite the cesspit of depravity in those reports, Tommy stood out as one of the worst. She had wanted to take him down for a long time and regretted not doing the job with Laz much sooner. He may hide his sick fetishes from the general public, but they couldn’t be hidden from her.
Ruby, Leona, Malene and Vivi each had their own opponents they were holding their ground against with ease, more so than some of the other infected who were struggling to hold on.
“To think I even have to take this shit from a mere third rate god… wow I have fallen far…” Laz muttered.
“What the hell did you say?” The giant bellowed after hearing Laz words.
“Well… wait. I’m feeling annoyed at fighting a third rate god? Why the hell would I know how these gods fight?” Laz’s memories seemed a bit muddled, but that didn’t impact their fight.
The giant was constantly drawing power from the ground, throwing rocks at Laz, spread dust clouds that made it hard to see, and had even given himself an armor made out of rock that he had created.
Laz was able to dodge everything thrown at him, but he was quickly running out of steam. Even if they had the same level of power, Laz’s reserves were far less than the bronze man.
“Well then, I guess it’s time we got serious,” Laz said as the tattoos spread out to cover his body while his skin turned dark gray. The black lines of tribal covered almost every inch of his body.
“Took you long enough,” the giant roared as his body began to expand.
Before everyone’s wide eyes, a tattooed mand an a thirty foot tall giant began clashing like thunder in the cloudless sky.
