Children of a Lesser God - Chapter 315: Magical Weapons
Laz couldn’t fly and neither could the giant. But due to the giant’s size, Laz had no choice but to jump at him. Again and again Laz launched himself at the large man and struck forward, meeting fist against fist. Sadly though, it was Laz who was sent flying again and again. No matter how strong Laz was, the giant’s weight wasn’t something he could fight against.
After a few moments of this reckless battle, Laz stopped jumping at the bronze giant. He knew he wasn’t going to get anywhere and that wasn’t really the point. The giant wasn’t stronger than Laz per say, but his large size and weight gave him an obvious advantage. The only reason Laz was being so reckless from the get go was to accurately gage the giant’s speed, strength flexibility.
Looking around, Laz noticed that his friends and allies, led by his girlfriends, were hanging on, but that there was more and more help arriving. Despite them being gentle with the normal humans, the favor wasn’t being returned. More than once when someone lost focus, they would end up being by the troops advancing from behind them. Looking over, Laz noticed even more vehicles arriving and getting into a formation to surround them.
That would lead to the worst kind of end possible for this first big battle.
‘Guess I really do need to hurry this up,’ Laz thought after calculating about half an hour until there were enough troops gathered to lock them in.
Laz reached into the pouch on his waist and grabbed the handle of something that he had neglected for a while, the sword with the name ‘Sever.’
Although Laz had never trained with how to use a sword, this old civil war style one had only one way to hold it, clearly designed for one hand. It was meant to be a fast weapon and not a strong weapon which made wielding it feel awkward for Laz who felt a large heavy sword would suit himself better.
Still, considering the circumstances, Laz didn’t have a choice.
Channeling his energy into the sword allowed the blade to produce a slight humming noise and with that, Laz again ran at the giant. This time though, Laz didn’t try to match fist for fist and quickly changed his direction in mid air, allowing the bronze god’s fist to miss Laz entirely. Laz then swerved to the side and cut along the giant’s abdomen, causing a several foot long gash in the nearly rock solid side of his opponent.
“AAAGGGHHHHHH” The giant’s voice erupted out as red streaks of blood started flowing down the wound. Even though it was long, the cut wasn’t very deep considering the giant’s size. Still, the cut looked nasty to those watching on.
Several chosen along with Tommy saw this and couldn’t help but pause in shock. The bronze god was their trump card and considering it’s power, there was no way that Laz should be able to put up a fight. Wasn’t he just knocking Laz around like a volleyball moments ago? How did this happen?
Tommy’s moment of distraction was all Kennedy needed to deliver Tommy a blow right to his face. Tommy had put on his ice armor to protect himself, causing Kennedy’s ability to damage him take a fall. But this moment of distraction was all she needed to connect with his face and send him flying.
With this moment to take a breath, Kennedy couldn’t help but look over at Laz and smile. Even up against this creature, he could still hold his own.
Her distraction only lasted for a moment before razor sharp shards of ice came flying at her as Tommy dragged himself back to his feet. His nose was broken and bleeding and one of his eyes was swelling.
Despite that, he now looked more pissed than ever, not helped by the fact that Kennedy was smiling.
Her pupils were slit like, taking on the qualities of a fox while her white tail and ears gave her the look of a white colored fox that had turned human. Watching the anger that Tommy had written on his face was quite amusing.
“You little bitch… I swear to whatever dark god there is that once I kill everyone else here, I’m going to take you home and…”
“Oh shut up. Seriously. You were a pussƴ back then and you’re a pussƴ now. You’re so stuck up in your own ego that I’m surprised you can even find your way out of bed in the morning. You damn pieces of garbage think your gods and want to rule over the normal people but let’s be honest, you think you’re going to win this battle? Tough shit. That boy is stronger than you and stronger than that tanning booth reject he’s fighting. And the more you keep hunting us, the more we will band together to resist you. You stupid fuckers are going to the the architects of your own downfall and you’re all to blind to even see this,” Kennedy said, resisting the urge to spit at Tommy. She still couldn’t believe she used to work with him back when they were younger.
‘How the hell did I stomach this cunt, I’ll never know…’ Kennedy said, once again jumping and dodging the incoming attack. Little did she know that a camera had been watching her and Tommy’s fight this whole time while also catching their exchanges. Although it looked like a battle between the good guys and the bad guys, the problem was that viewers were starting to have a hard time figuring out who was who. The infected weren’t massacring the solders, no matter how many times they had been shot at.
But when the opportunity presented itself, they had no issues with killing off a few of the chosen, some of the chosen even tried to save their own lives by using the solders as meat shields. This stark contrast in attitude and moral fiber made the opinion of the viewers watching at home shift more than once.
When your told ‘this is a bad person,’ by those you trust, you tend to believe them. But once you start watching that person’s actions for yourself, you find that your own opinion differs..
And that’s what was happening here.
The bronze giant truly looked somewhat heavenly while the gray skinned, black tattooed and white hair Laz looked like a demon out of hell. But that changed when one noticed the golden colored light in his eyes. And in more recent years, people have stopped judging so much just based on appearance.
“YOU WEAK LITTLE INSECT! HOW DID YOU GET A MAGICAL WEAPON?” The giant yelled, covered the gash in his side with a layer of earth energy. He couldn’t heal the wound no matter how hard he tried, but he was able to rebuild the rock like flesh and reattach it.
“Magical weapon huh? That’s what you call this?” Laz asked, shaking the sword in the giant’s general direction. Laz had ‘sever’ for a while now, every since exploring that cave with Leona and Ruby. But he never really understood it. Now Laz learned that it was referred to as a magical weapon. It was little to go on, but better than nothing.
The giant was about to say something when he saw Laz rush him again. Instead of rushing to meet Laz, the giant actually took several steps back and got out of Laz’s range. This was the first time the giant had been the one to retreat, causing concern for all those on his side.
“Don’t want to play anymore?” Laz mocked while standing on the tallest bit of rubble from a knocked down building.
“You think you’re the only one with a magical weapon?” The giant responded. It then waved it’s hand in the air, causing something like a stick to appear. For a normal size person, this stick would have been almost the length of them. But when held in the giant’s oversized hand, it looked like he had pulled out a match stick.
“Uhh…? You going to pick your teeth with that or something?” Laz was confused, as was everyone else.
“SHUT UP!” The giant yelled back before a yellow glow overtook his body and disappeared a moment later. Instead of a thirty foot giant, there now stood an almost 7 foot man clenching the length of wood in his hands. Although it still looked a little small, it was clear that the stick was now responding to the giant’s will.
“Oh. I see…” Laz said, laughing a little. Laz wasn’t one hundred percent sure of anything with this new enemy, but there were some clues here and there. This stick it was holding was probably a magical weapon, but the fact that the giant had to shrink to use it meant there was some problems with it. The giant was a lot stronger in it’s large form and obviously wanted to fight like that. But because of the weapon Laz brough out, the giant had no choice but to counter with one of it’s own and in doing so, give up it’s large size advantage.
Staring at each other, the giant and Laz said nothing while the sounds of shouting and violence rang out in the background. More and more troops had been deployed to the area while there looked to be several helicopters in the air. Due to the close nature of the fighting though, the helicopters were just watching and not taking action.
BOOOM
Rubble exploded out, sent in all directions while Laz and the giant charged one another. Laz tried swinging the sword at the giant’s head while the giant decided to smash the ground with the stick as though he was hammering in a railway spike.
‘What the…’ Laz felt like that was the dumbest move you could make with a stick until the stick actually hit the ground.
BOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMM.
A large crater appeared as stone and debris flew everywhere while cracks went out even further.
Laz couldn’t help but be knocked back by the strength of this stick. The shockwave when it hit the ground was over whelming. Had it been his body he hit, Laz didn’t even want to know the result.
“I WILL GRIND YOUR BONES TO MAKE MY MEAD!!!” The giant yelled while laughing, coming at Laz again and again with the staff. Every time he just barely missed and hit the ground, sending Laz flying or shaking his body with the shockwaves from the attack.
“What the hell is mead?” Laz asked as he was sent flying away. This time, when the giant had tried to hit him, Laz side stepped and attempted to go in for a slice, but he couldn’t regain his balance before the giant kicked him in the stomach and sent him flying.
Laz wiped more blood off the side of his mouth while looking around. Despite their advantage of ability users, more and more of his allies were being killed off by the chosen or military that was helping them. What’s worse, Laz’s friends could no longer worry about not killing the normal people as they were taking advantage of their passiveness from before to do things throwing grenades at them and just walking away.
“It’s a total mess…” Laz said to himself, noticing that his girls were still doing ok.
The giant swung again and missed, this time almost hitting Laz before he hit the ground. This time though, as Laz went flying away while feeling like his organs were being crushed, he noticed something he had failed to notice before. While it seemed like the giant had been missing Laz due to his movements, he noticed this time that the giant actually adjusted his swing to miss Laz entirely and strike the ground instead.
“Wait a second…” he said to himself.
This time when the giant came running at him, he didn’t move or dodge. Just when the staff was about to hit him while Laz gritted his teeth, the giant moved the staff to the side to strike the ground while the giant lashed out with his foot. This time though, Laz had been expecting it. He moved quickly to the side and slashed his sword, causing a huge gash to open on the giant’s chest as he screamed in agony.
“My turn,” said Laz.
