Chris And Hazel - Volume 1 Chapter 28 27
‘That was so embarrassing!’ Hazel exclaimed getting inside the car.
‘That was fun’ Chris answered smiling widely.
‘Fun? Did you know how many people laughed at us while crossing by? Ahh, it was so embarrassing!’ she said covering her face with her hands.
She turned to look at Chris but he was happily enjoying her wailing.
‘Seriously? You are laughing?’ she asked looking at him in disbelief.
‘Though your dancing style was kinda poor compared to mine but the fact that you felt embarrassed kinda soothes me so I forgive you’ he said looking laughing.
‘Demon!’ she shouted angrily.
‘Buckle up, it’s time to go’ he said ignoring her previous comment.
‘Did you really find that guy who cheated me?’ she asked anxiously.
‘Yeah, he was about to leave town just caught him in the nick of time’ he answered driving out the apartment.
‘Thank god…I really thought I lost all my money’ she said clasping her hands together.
‘It’s ok now, don’t worry anymore’ he said comforting her.
‘Chris…thanks a lot’ she said smiling with gratitude.
‘Anytime’ he said smiling back.
‘You know something? I am actually kinda glad that you are with me in this situation’ she said looking outside the window.
‘I already told you that I forgave you right? Why are you still trying to butter me up with your sugar-coated words?’ he asked looking at her.
‘No, I am serious, thank you’ she said looking right into his eyes.
‘…Oh…kay…’ Chris said turning away from her quickly avoiding eye contact.
“This girl keeps changing her expressions every minute, just before sometime she was screaming at me and now, she’s looking at me kindly…only she can make my heart skip a beat every time she looks at me with those adorable hazel eyes” he thought to himself looking away from her.
“That’s weird! Chris never avoids eye contact with anyone” Hazel thought to herself surprised by his behavior.
‘We are here’ he said stopping the car.
‘Why are we at a hotel?’ Hazel asked getting down from the car.
‘I asked my men to bring him here and I also asked the real house owners to come by, it’s better if they are present too’ he said walking towards her.
Chris led Hazel to the VIP suite and as he unlocked the door with his key card, Hazel saw that all the others were already present inside. She noticed the guy who faked to be the landlord sitting in the right corner of the room surrounded by Chris’ men.
‘We already investigated, he happens be an old friend of these two guys and he knew that they were gonna go on a long vacation and so he thought of renting the house and when they returned he planned on escaping with the money and you were his victim’ Chris explained looking at her.
‘He was these guys friend?’ she asked after a moment of silence.
‘Not really, he happened to be a neighbor but soon vacated before they went on the vacation. Actually, he had done the same with few other people but managed to get away with it, some filed a case against him but unfortunately didn’t know the exact details but that’s not the case now, he will surely get what he deserves’ Chris said staring at him angrily.
‘Chris, calm down’ she slowly whispered looking at the way he was looking at the fake landlord. Chills ran down her spine just by looking at his aura, it was crystal clear that he was gonna sue that guy.
Chris took a deep breath before turning towards her.
‘You go to the car, ok? I will come after dealing with him’ he said in a concerned tone looking at her.
‘But…why? I will stay’ she protested.
‘I called my lawyer and he will be here any minute, I just have to ask him something before leaving so you go first, I will come within a few minutes’ he said in a stern tone.
‘Okay’ she said nodding obediently.
‘Just wait in the car’ he said taking her outside the room.
Hazel nodded and walked towards the lift.
‘Maybe I should get the car keys from him. I could wait inside’ she said to herself waiting for the lift.
She walked towards the room; she noticed that the room was open as she was about to enter, she heard Chris threatening someone;
‘Look, I don’t care how many people you cheat for money but this time you messed with the wrong person. If you mess with my woman, you mess with me so now I am going to send you to hell’
Hazel froze right at the door.
‘You take care of this from here, I have to go. Call me when the lawyer arrives’ he said looking at his men.
‘Evan and Mitchell, I am sorry for the inconvenience caused, we will take care of the rest in court and I will send someone tonight to pick up Hazel’s things from your house’ he said looking at the brothers.
‘Ok Chris; and we are sorry for misunderstanding you guys earlier. We will meet you soon’ Evan said extending his hand to Chris. Chris firmly shook his hand and left the room.
He noticed Hazel standing next to the car.
‘Did I forget to give you the car keys?’ he asked stopping next to her.
‘That’s okay’ she said looking at him.
‘Why are you sweating?’ he asked looking at her condition.
‘Nothing, it’s just so humid here’ she answered looking away.
‘No it’s not and it looks as though you have been running’ he said looking at her suspiciously.
‘No you are wrong. Let’s go’ she answered turning away from him trying to avoid further conversation.
‘Fine, I will send some men over to get your things from Mitchell and Evan’s later tonight and now let’s go home’ he said unlocking his car.
‘Can I drive?’ she asked eagerly.
‘Sure’ he said tossing the key to her.
Hazel started the car as Chris sat in the passenger seat. She pulled the car out from the hotel’s parking and drove into the main road.
‘Do you know the way?’ he asked looking at her.
‘Kind of’ she said taking a left turn.
‘Fine just ask me when you don’t know’ he told her pulling his phone out from his pocket.
She nodded with her eyes still on the road.
‘Chris, can I ask you something?’ she asked after a silence of 15 minutes.
‘Sure and take the next right’ he said his eyes on the road.
‘Did you like me back in college?’ she asked taking a right turn.
‘What?’ he asked almost choking up on her question.
‘Oh just answer it’ she said looking at him.
‘Well…you know…maybe I did’ he answered in a low voice.
‘Just be honest anyways I am not asking about now but back in college’ she said reassuring him.
‘Yeah I did and… I…d…’ he started.
‘Then why didn’t you accept my proposal that time?’ she asked stopping the car outside his house.
‘Well…you were young’ he said getting out of the car.
‘Well I didn’t know that three years mattered so much to you but then why did you like me when you knew you were too old for me’ she screamed loud enough for Chris to hear.
The gate opened and she parked the car inside and chased after Chris who was rushing inside the house in order to avoid her.
‘Christopher Finch, stop right there’ she yelled as he was about to go upstairs.
He turned to look at her.
‘See Hazel I just can’t explain some things, ok?’ he said walking towards her.
‘That’s fine big brother I understand that you are too old for me’ she said with an empty smile.
‘Big brother? Hazel, just stop it. Fine, I promise you that I will explain things later, just trust me’ he said his voice filled with honesty.
‘Yeah, should I wait another six years for that?’ she said her tone filled with sarcasm.
‘Hazel…’
‘Mr. Finch?’ the housekeeper called walking over towards them.
‘Yeah?’ he asked looking at the housekeeper.
‘Mrs. Finch called; she told that she will bring the kids by Sunday evening and she wants to talk to you about the girl you wanted to marry’ she answered politely.
‘Ok I will call her’ he said before turning back to Hazel.
‘So you are getting married now?’ Hazel asked emotionless.
‘No that’s not…’
‘Congratulations! I hope she isn’t too young for you’ Hazel said walking past him to her room.
