Chris And Hazel - Volume 1 Chapter 64
‘Why isn’t he still here?’ Hazel asked walking back and forth in the living room.
‘Come on Haze, maybe he had something urgent to do on his way here. He’ll be back soon’ Ed said trying to calm her down.
‘He would have informed me if that was the case. I am really worried’ Hazel said throwing them a panicked look.
‘You know I can take care of myself right?’ Chris asked walking through the main entrance.
‘Oh thank god he’s here’ Charlotte said sighing in relief because she knew even he was to be a minute late Hazel would have turned the house upside down.
‘Where were you? It’s almost midnight’ Hazel asked walking over to Chris.
‘I had some work and my phone’s battery died so I wasn’t able to inform you guys’ Chris replied calmly as he sat next to Ed.
‘You could have told me before leaving, right? You didn’t say anything back then and didn’t call later too. How do you think I was supposed to stay calm?’ she asked boiling with anger.
‘It’s not a big deal and I am not a kid’ he answered looking at her.
‘Is that how you answer to the person who’s worried about you?’ she asked in disbelief after hearing his tone.
‘Should I apologize in another way?’ he asked smiling mischievously.
‘Just shut up! I am really angry’ she said turning away from him to hide her flushed cheeks.
‘Guys..! We are still here’ Ava said shaking her head in dismay laughing at their behavior.
‘God once you started dating you really got shameless’ Charlotte said rolling her eyes at Hazel.
‘I am really angry. You guys will never understand!’ Hazel said, getting up to leave.
‘Wait a minute! Where’s William?’ she asked stopping to look around.
Coming to think of it, she and William came together to Chris’s house and later called the others to tell them the good news and invited them over to celebrate but as time passed by Hazel’s thoughts wavered over to Chris that she entirely forgot about him. She was sure that he was there till the others reached the house but where did he disappear all of a sudden.
‘Charlotte?’ she called out looking suspiciously at her best friend.
‘What?’ Charlotte questioned back wearing a puzzled look on her face.
‘Charlotte!’ All the other four called out at the same time knowing that she had something to do with that.
‘Why?’ Hazel asked confused.
‘You guys should be happy that I didn’t fight with all of you. Though you all told me how much of a freak Grayson was you never told me that Will worked for him and I came to know of it only today after finding William here so I told him not to see me anymore’ Charlotte said explaining it to everyone.
‘That’s no reason Char’ Hazel said upset after hearing Charlotte’s explanation.
‘But Haze…’
‘Go home now and come back only if you had made up with William’ Hazel said sternly looking at Charlotte.
Charlotte knew Hazel was serious and fighting back wouldn’t help so she obediently got up to leave.
‘But remember that you won’t be seeing me for a long time’ she added as she made her way towards the door.
‘Let’s see whether you cross tomorrow’ Hazel yelled back making sure Charlotte heard her loud and clear.
‘This girl…’ Ed sighed watching his stubborn sister leave.
‘Will she remain stubborn like this?’ Ava asked worried looking at Hazel.
‘I am pretty sure she will make up with him within morning so don’t worry’ Hazel assured her smiling.
‘Anyways Chris, we should get going! It’s late’ Ed aid standing up from the couch.
‘Just stay here’ Chris offered looking at Ed and Ava.
‘No, I have a meeting early in the morning tomorrow and I will need to be there on time and if I stay the night I won’t be able to make it’ Ed replied looking at Chris.
‘Fine then but make time tomorrow night let’s all go for dinner as we were not able to celebrate today’ Chris said getting up.
‘Sure’ Ed nodded promising his friend.
‘Where are you going?’ Hazel asked seeing Chris leave with Ed and Ava.
‘To see them off’ Chris replied smiling at her.
‘He knows the way and I am not done with you, so quit hiding behind the shield called Ed’ Hazel said knowing what he was up to.
‘Good luck!’ Ed whispered to Chris before waving them goodbye.
‘Are you really angry?’ Chris asked as soon as Ed and Ava left.
‘Yeah!’ she answered turning away.
‘But it’s not like I was never late and sometimes I even forgot to tell you but why are you fussing over it today?’ he asked still not able to get why she was angry.
Hazel didn’t bother to reply and straight away went upstairs.
‘What’s gotten into this girl today?’ Chris asked himself as he followed her upstairs.
Chris entered their room and found her standing in the balcony staring down at the city widespread in front of her.
He stood back and quietly observed her; she was lost in her own thoughts. She didn’t look angry she was…worried? He couldn’t tell and this was the first time he couldn’t tell and it seemed to bother him.
‘Are you done staring?’ she asked turning to look at him.
He slowly walked over and joined her in the balcony.
‘Why are you angry?’ he asked slowly taking her hand into his.
‘Where were you?’ she asked turning to look at him.
‘I…I was working’ he said turning away.
‘Chris, look at me. What was the work about?’ she asked slowly turning his head to make him look at her.
How could he lie to those eyes?
‘I wanted to make sure that nothing went wrong with…’ he paused withdrawing his eyes from hers.
‘Grayson’s sentence?’ she asked guessing it with ease.
‘…I am sorry! I just couldn’t relax so I wanted to make sure Grayson had no way out. I know that nothing would go wrong but what if it did? I just couldn’t stop thinking about it so I went there myself and made sure everything took place as ordered by the jury and I also made sure…’
‘Chris’ she called out covering his mouth with her fingers.
‘It’s fine! It’s over, okay? You can relax. He’s not coming back’ she said trying to assure him.
Though things happened in their favor, it all happened very fast. It was hard for her to believe that it all happened in the first place and she knows that this would all be too much to take in and process for Chris who was living with it for more than six years. She knew that without his knowledge it grew to become a part of his life so obviously he needs some time to come back to reality and take in all of it.
‘But…is it really over?’ he asked moving away from her.
‘It’s okay Chris, just let it out. I am sure Adam’s definitely proud of you and it’s really over. Just breathe!’ she said turning him to face her.
She slowly took both his hands and covered them with hers and looked right into his eyes, letting him know that he did a good job.
‘I did?’ he asked his voice barely reaching her ears.
She nodded smiling positively at him managing to hold back the tears that stood at the corner of her eyes.
Chris pulled her into his arms as he knew that no matter how much he tried words failed to make their way out of him. She held him back as she felt his breath grow heavy.
‘You held back real well honey and you finally won, just let it out’ she murmured fearing that he was still holding back.
But she failed to notice that once Chris leaned over her shoulders for a hug the tears he held back came flowing down without any barriers.
‘Chris?’ she called out as he hesitated to pull back. He didn’t want her to see him in this state.
He didn’t know what to tell her if she asked why he was crying as he didn’t know the answer himself. They won and he defeated Grayson just like Adam wanted but why is it making him cry? He should be happy, right? Then why, why was he crying? And why was he failing to understand that it was the anguish he had suffered for years that’s breaking through in the form of tears. He didn’t understand that but she did.
‘I know you think that crying will make you look weak but for someone who has been holding on for a long time, it’s not! It’s only natural for them to cry when they finally let go and it’s not a symbol of weakness honey, it’s the symbol of strength and even if you still think it makes you seem weak, it’s fine. Cause you are allowed to seem weak in front of me so that I can be your strength, okay?’ she said still holding him in her arms after he refused to let go.
Her vision got clouded with tears once again as she felt his tears on her right shoulder. Her tears fell through as his grip tightened around her.
They stood there holding each other for some time trying to make themselves feel better and just as Chris gathered himself and decided to let go,
‘Don’t!’ Hazel said reluctant in letting him go.
She wanted him to understand that she was there for him and this was all a start of something new and a turning point in their lives. Now they can finally go back to focusing on themselves and their family.
‘I know honey’ he murmured pulling away slowly.
‘Don’t hold back thinking that you will worry me because I will be worried only when I come to know that you were holding back in front of me so don’t ever do that, ok?’ she asked making sure that he heard her.
Chris wrapped his hands around her waist and pulled her closer to him as he rested comfortably on her shoulders.
‘It’s hard, right?’ she asked looking up to see his face.
‘What is?’ he asked puzzled over her sudden question.
‘That it is all really over’ she answered completing her thought.
‘Yeah, it was the day I have been looking forward to for years and it’s finally here’ Chris nodded his eyes still glued to the view in front of them.
‘You did well Chris, you really did!’ she said moving away from him.
‘Who allowed you to move away?’ he asked pulling her in again.
‘It feels weird!’ he started still not looking down at her; something seemed to stop him from doing so.
‘I know I should be happy but it’s like I forgot how to be happy. The first time I smiled genuinely after Adam’s death was when Rob and Aurora called me dad and after that no matter how much time I spend together with them I had always feel like something was missing and my mind was always pre-occupied with thoughts on how to protect them and later it was when I finally found you near the fountain and then Grayson came into the picture again and every time I tried to push those thoughts away they came crawling back to me as if they were a part of me but now for some reason I feel light and it’s gone, finally gone. And I can finally relax without any tension. Is this happiness or should I fear that a new problem is on its way to take it away from me?’ he asked letting her go as he looked around the city.
‘You see those city lights in front of you?’ she asked looking at him and as he nodded in acceptance, she continued.
‘Under each light there exists a different story. All of them are actually running to reach their happy place destined for them, in short they are all trying to get to their happy ending which is waiting at the end of the road and you know what keeps them running? The fact that there exists a happy ending at the end of the road! Our lives were no different, we were running too but now we have to stop because we have arrived at our destination’ she paused to look at him.
‘Are you saying that this is the end of our road?’ he asked finally getting himself to finally look at her.
‘No, only when people reach one end of the road they understand that another road is waiting to unfold in front them ready to take them to their next destination so that they can reach their final destination so now all we have to do is welcome the new beginning happily but for that we need to let the past go with our hearts’ she said smiling lovingly at him.
‘Are you ready to walk down the new road?’ she asked, her eyes glistening with hope.
‘As long as you are with me’ he said placing a small kiss on her forehead as he pulled her towards him.
‘I checked the road has enough space to let the four of us travel smoothly’ she assured nodding positively at him.
‘As long as it’s fine with you’ he said finally smiling as he heard her talk a kid.
‘See whether it can add two more?’ he asked looking down at her who was happily resting on his shoulders enjoying the view in front of them.
‘Why?’ she asked in doubt.
‘You will know in two years’ he mumbled holding back his laughter.
‘Just shut up’ she screamed pushing him off.
‘What? I am actually pretty serious’ he said looking at her.
‘Just shut up Chris!’ he screamed covering her face in embarrassment.
He slowly pulled her hands away from her face and enclosed her face within his hands gazing lovingly into her eyes.
‘I am actually glad that you were there with me when all this happened. Without you I would have lost my mind long ago’ he said closing the distance between them.
‘What is with you and the sweet talks today? You are acting needy purposely, right? What do you want?’ Hazel asked raising a brow in question thinking that he was building into something there.
‘You know what? You are right, I do want something’ he said accepting it.
‘I knew it. Mr. Christopher Finch what did you do this time…’
Before she could complete he gently covered her lips with his, catching her off guard.
Their lips lingered over for a brief moment before he pulled back to look at her.
‘I do want something Ms. Hazel White. I want you’ he said in a seductive tone making her go red in a second.
And before she could say anything, he pulled her for another kiss.
His tongue slowly parted her lips making its way inside her mouth as the kiss grew deeper.
Hazel grew all giddy from top to bottom as their intensity of their kiss increased. This didn’t seem like Chris at all, he seemed selfish than considerate. It looked as though he wanted her at the very moment and didn’t want to waste any more time by letting go. It was as though he was racing against time. He sure has a unique way each time to let Hazel know that she was the most important in his life.
Hazel knew that if she doesn’t pull away any sooner she might actually faint due to lack of air but she didn’t want to pull away. She was already completely lost within him and this didn’t concern her at all.
‘Are you planning to just let me continue till you lose all your breath?’ Chris asked pulling away leaving her to catch her breath.
‘I don’t mind’ she answered still taking deep breaths.
‘Fine you asked for it’ he said lifting her off the ground as he made his way towards the bed. He continued kissing her on this way towards the bed and didn’t care to stop even after placing her gently on the bed.
‘Chris’ she called out as he reached for her shirt.
‘What?’ he asked annoyed over the interruption.
‘The door..? Its open’ she said pointing towards the door.
‘I don’t care’ he said closing in.
‘But the kids…’
‘God you are annoying’ he said getting off her to close the door.
As he returned after closing the door he found her sitting up straight.
‘What’s wrong now?’ he asked sitting next to her.
‘I am sleepy’ she said in a low voice.
‘What?’ he yelled in disbelief.
‘Good night sweetie’ she said kissing his cheeks before lying back on the bed.
‘This girl sure knows how to kill a romantic atmosphere’ he said as he lay next to her, closing his eyes.
‘Are you really…WHAT THE’ he yelled in shock as he opened his eyes after finding her on top of him.
‘Today I will run things’ she said gazing at him fiercely.
‘I thought you wanted to sleep’ he said looking at her.
‘That was the only to get you off of me’ she answered acting innocent.
‘But right now I am not in the mood and I am really feeling sleepy’ he said turning away from her.
‘You are not in the mood?’
‘No’
‘Fine then, good night’
‘Yeah good…’ she slowly kissed him before he could finish up the sentence.
‘Still no?’ she asked pulling away from him.
‘Just this once’ he murmured pulling her in for another kiss.
She gently bent over and placed small kisses all over his neck.
As she continued kissing all over him, devoting her lips to his skin, Chris quietly tore off her clothes and pushed her back on the bed, regaining control.
‘Mr. Finch, you are cheating’ she argued trying to get back up.
‘Doesn’t matter’ he said pinning her against the bed.
‘Quit struggling Ms. White. I will make sure you have a good time’ he mouthed slowly bending over to her ears.
Just as he further closed down, she placed her hand over his chest stopping him.
‘What now?’ He asked giving up over her continuous interruptions.
‘It’s not fair Mr. Finch’ she said in a slow voice getting back up as he continued to lie on top of her.
‘What’s not fair?’
‘It’s actually not fair’ she said unbuttoning his shirt’s button one by one, slowly taking off his clothes before he could leap back on her again.
‘You are getting naughtier day by day’ he said pushing her back on the bed.
He traced his lips along her neckline, making her grow restless under him.
He slowly bit her skin and sucked it slowly holding up her neck engulfing around it.
She wrapped her arms around his neck burying himself in to his shoulders, waiting for the following things to unfold.
He slowly traced his hands all along her bare skin making her shiver as his cold hands touched her n.a.k.e.d skin.
He slowly planted short kisses on her lips before going all the way down. Just as she lost all her senses getting into the moment, he thrust himself further into her making her surrender under him.
The night faded into a distance as their souls merged into each other uniting them together forever.
