Cold Hearted Devil Fell In Love - Chapter 124
Noah pushed the connecting door open and strode to his lover. Her breathing was laboured, even with the oxygen mask. Doctor Stewart checked her pulse before shouting instructions at his team of doctors and proceeded to administer an injection into the IV drip.
He waited for a while and when Ivy’s breathing finally slowed down, Doctor Stewart breathed a sigh of relief and wiped his brow.
“Doctor Stewart,” Noah uttered, his eyes never left his lover, “take care of Ivy please.”
The elderly doctor bowed. “She is in for a rough night but the team and I will be here to monitor her until she pulls through.”
Noah didn’t think he could stand there without destroying something, he walked out of the room hurriedly. He had never been this furious. True, there were many times when Ivy was hurt but not once he had seen his lover so vulnerable. If Ivy had reached the hospital a minute later, he was positive his angel would die.
Doctor Stewart’s warnings about the arsenic poisoning rang hollow in his mind. Even if Ivy survived the arsenic poisoning, she would most likely suffer from life-long liver and nerve problems. It was something that he couldn’t even imagine.
They had not spoken about having children before and he wasn’t sure if she wanted them. But he knew he would move heaven and earth for her no matter what their future, she had him by her side to shoulder her from her worries and shelter her from her burdens.
Noah strode out of the emergency department, he entered the private waiting room where his subordinates were already waiting. He scanned his men; his eyes hard, rigid and cold.
“Aiden, get me the background of the waiter who served the drinks to Ivy.”
It was Thomas who stepped forward with the file. “Boss, it’s already done,” he said, passing the file to Noah.
Without a word, Noah read the file and his eyes immediately narrowed. The burning hard gaze had everyone silent, knowing that a single sound would trigger Noah’s rage. Finally, after a few minutes, he closed the file and passed it back to Thomas.
With a gaze that could kill someone, Noah stood up, signalling for Thomas and Aiden to follow him.
The two guards obeyed, knowing that the information had just released their boss’s inner devil.
Later that evening Aiden walked out of warehouse number three, feeling slightly nauseated. In the years that he served Noah, he thought he had seen it all but apparently, he was wrong. The assassin, or what was left of him, was tortured in ways Aiden hadn’t thought possible.
His partner for the night, Thomas looked slightly uncomfortable for the first time. Even the bravest man couldn’t take in the grotesque killing and dismemberment.
The assassin should have known it, Aiden thought as he slid into the limousine with his boss. After what happened to Governor May, the message was loud and clear. Touch Noah’s Ivy and you pay the ultimate price. He saw what happened to Ivy in the emergency room. He heard what Doctor Stewart had said to Noah. And in all his years he had never seen his boss so livid. The way Noah looked at Ivy in the emergency room; he was ready to blow everyone’s brains out.
The secretary took a backward glance as the car drove out of the warehouse. They had eliminated the man responsible for Ivy’s poisoning but Aiden knew that the main culprit had yet to be caught so killing that man could hardly appease Noah’s anger.
“Thomas, get me an update on Ivy’s condition.” Noah’s voice was low and deep.
Thomas immediately took out his phone and dialled Matteo’s number. He spoke in a low, quiet tone on the phone, occasionally nodding his head before replacing the phone in his pocket.
“Ivy has been transferred to the usual private suite. Doctor Stewart and his team are still monitoring him but he is reported to be stable.” Thomas quickly reported the situation.
“Get Matteo to tighten the security around the hospital. He has permission to use the gun.” Noah announced.
“Understood, sir.” Thomas nodded and agreed.
Noah took out his gun and fiddled with it. “Aiden, have you gotten any news regarding Anna?”
The secretary checked his phone and nodded. “Yes, she is in her father’s compound.”
For the first time, Noah’s lips curved almost evilly. “I have something that’ll shake the entire organization and bring it down.”
In the hospital Ivy had woken up, her nausea all gone now though she was a bit tired and groggy, she took a moment to stare at the ceiling slightly confused. They were white, far brighter than the ceilings in Noah’s apartment. The lightings looked nothing like the ones she woke up to every day and while they looked expensive, the design was a pale comparison to the lightings in Noah’s penthouse.
She blinked a few more times. The occasional beep had her suddenly turn on her side where she noticed machines measuring his heartbeat standing by his side. Raising her right hand, she noticed it was bandaged with an IV needle stuck right on the back of her hand. Fragments of her memory then started to return.
“Ivy, how are you feeling?” Thomas shouted out once he saw her eyes start to flutter open. The guard who usually bore no emotions looked slightly worried at her.
Ivy gave a weak smile. “For you to look like that, I must be super sick.”
Teo appeared next to Thomas. He too had the same worried look. “Ivy, you don’t know how much danger you were in. You’ve been unconscious for nearly three whole days!”
When Ivy gave a confused look, Thomas instructed Teo to go and get Doctor Stewart. The guard took his phone out and speed dialled his boss’s number.
“Noah, Ivy is awake,” he murmured. He nodded his head a few times at Noah’s orders before ending the call. He then sat next to the bed. “I sincerely apologize, Ivy. We failed to see that coming. As a result –”
“—what do you mean?” Ivy tried to sit up but she was so dizzy and weak that she lost her grip and nearly fell off the bed.
Thomas caught her immediately. “Careful, you’re still weak,” he said as he helped his friend back onto the bed. He took the remote control and adjusted the bed so that Ivy could sit up.
Ivy looked around. She recognized the familiar painting and the furniture in the room. The room might resemble a hotel suite since it boasts a living room, a bedroom and a fully equipped kitchen; but Ivy had been in the room enough times to know that he’s in the president suite of The Royal Hospital.
There were more guards than usual in the room. Apart from her two friends, Ivy noticed two others in the room, which was unusual because she had never had anyone other than Thomas and Teo guard her before.
“What happened?” She asked.
