Concealed Crime Investigation - Chapter 13 The Return
“Daaaad!”, a scream cuts through the air. “Dad, come fast!”
The father of the boy walks over to his son quickly, for hearing him shout like that on vacation, something must have happened: “What is it Toby?”
“Dad!”, the boy who seems to be called Toby turns to his father, with tears all over his face, and his hands covering it. “I-I”, he stutters and his hands shaking very badly, “I found a-a, it it looks like a, like a co-corpse!”
“What did you say?”, the father asks his son with terror written all over his face. “We should pull it out of the water and see if there is still hope, that the person survived!”
Together they pull on it and finally they get it out. The father checks the heartbeat, and decides, that the man must have died: “I’m sorry for him, but I think I won’t be able to save him, I’m no doctor.”
“Dad?”
“Yes my son?”
“What does ‘CCI’ mean?”
for visiting.
“What did you say?”, the father asks surprised.
“Ah, what…”
“No, the name.”
“CCI.”
“So that is, why he’s died.”, The man whispers and looks at the other young man laying dead before him. “He must have died on some mission.”
“Did you say something papa Carlos?”
“No.”, the father, seeming to be named Carlos says.
‘It would be bad if he dies. I could make good use of him. I should get him to a doctor, that can do something for him. He must be either very smart, or very strong to be a member of CCI maybe he even is both, it would very good, to have him.’, Carlos thinks by himself, then he adds loud: “Toby, or vacation is over, I must bring this man to a doctor.
“Yasmina… I’ll get you… no… worries.”, the corpse suddenly mutters and chokes some water.
The two turn to the young man, and the son hides behind his father, who whispers in a sparkling voice: “Thank God! He’s still alive!”
Still the man doesn’t wake up. He keeps on laying there in the puddle of the water he chocked out and in the blood he’s still bleeding. That isn’t much though, because most of the bleeding had stopped already and the water had almost washed away.
“Toby, help me, here is still another one! Maybe he’s still alive, too!”, Carlos shouts over to his son, wich now hurries over to him: “Really? What happened, that there are so many in the sea? I’ve never had something like this before!”
“Me neither.”, the father says but thinks: ‘As some of our agents were missing I had this before. But at that time we knew they would float in the water, not a surprise, like today…’ The father didn’t want to tell that to his son, since he wasn’t old enough to know such trustworthy information about his father’s job.
After they had fished him out of the sea as well, both of the young men layed on the floor. Carlos checks the condition of the second man as well and after he decides that he’s still saveable he does everything he can to help him. After some time the young man opens his eyes: “Ah! My head hurts! No, everything hurts! And it’s so cold! Ah, where am I?”
Amazed by the fast awakening of the second man, Toby walks over to him and responds to his question, after he sat down beside him: “You’re on our boat! We were on vacation, my daddy and I! But suddenly I found him, and then you!”
The man turns over to the body laying in the direction the young boy had pointed to. His eyes grew wide and he instantly tried to get up and to the first man, shouting: “Finn!” He then turned back to the boy and asks very worried: “It he alright? Is he still alive?”
“No, daddy said, he is dad and he wants to bring him to a doctor.”
“That’s not logical! Is he dead or alive?”, the foreign man asks again, now seeming very upset.
“Well, he spoke, so he should live, shouldn’t he?”, Carlos comes into the scene. “So you know each other very well, it seems.”
“That we do. We’re best friends. I hope he can make it…”
“He will. What is your name?”, Carlos replies coldharted.
“David.”
“So David, can you tell us something about the two of you?”, Carlos asks next.
“Well, what should I tell you? I’m David, 27 from New York. I have a fiancee, named… ah, how is she called? I can’t remember her name anymore!”
“How is that?”, Carlos cuts in.
“I don’t know!”, he shouts in defence. And pulling on his own hair out of frustration. His green eyes burn in anger for himself. “I love her, I know it!”
Suddenly sirens loudly announce the arrival of a boat.
“Its the ambulance boat!”, the son yells excitedly and waves his arms. “You will get help soon!”
“Yes, that’s right, I called them.”, Carlos explains.
“And wich names do you have?”, David asks the father and his child.
“I’m Toby, and my dad is called Carlos!”, the little boy says and smiles happily, as if he hadn’t seen two almost lifeless bodies today.
“Toby.”, David smiles warm, “That brings back memories.” ‘Toby.’, he thinks, ‘How I’d love to see him again. But that’s impossible. He himself thinks I, his own son, am dead.’
I must have slept for a long time now. My head aches like I don’t know, not only my head but everything. My lungs most of all. And even though I seem to be in a warm place it’s cold like I’m buried in snow. And everything I recall is a name called ‘Yasmina’.
“He should be awake now. I don’t know why his eyes are still closed though. Maybe he’s afraid to open them after all.”, a voice says.
“Oh, thank you! Thanks for saving him!”, another voice calls out, but compared to the other voice this one seems strangely familiar. But I still can’t say whose voice this one is. It can’t be Yasminas, can it? It’s male after all. Maybe it would be helpful to open my eyes? So I first open my left, brown eye.
“His eye!”, the familiar voice shouts exited and thankful. I see a young man around 25, 30, “Finn!”
So that must be me, since he pulls me in an embrace.
“No! You can’t! He is still connected to the instruments! It could harm his recovery!”, a nurse shouts panicking.
He steps back but his gaze never left my eyes.
“May I ask your name?”, I ask him bluntly. Ah my throat is sore!
His face falls instantly: “What should that mean? Finn, you know me! We’re best friends!” Tears forming in his eyes.
“Doctor it is right as you suggested. He lost his memory.”, the nurse says to a man, seeming to be the doctor. Why am I in the hospital?
“No. He can’t!”, the man breaks down beside me, now leaning on the bed. At his side stands a man together with a woman, who seems to be his wife and their son.
“And who are the three of you?”, I turn and ask them. I hope, I don’t break them like I broke him. “And why am I in a hospital?”
“We’re the Calles. My name is Carlos, this is my wife Simone and my son Toby.”
