Concealed Crime Investigation - Chapter 8 The End Of Education
The clock likes to wake me up with the worst tones and the most annoying sounds. Why do I have to wake up so early in the morning again? What day is it today anyways?
What? Saturday? Oh, today we end our education! I can’t be late today!
As I walk out the door Yasmina is already waiting.
“What took you so long, sleepy head?”, she groans and pushes herself off the wall.
“Well… Nothing.”, I respond and walk past her like nothing happened. I hate it if she waits for me, normally the woman needs longer but I guess here it is exactly the other way around. And I’m not really found of that fact.
“So, how do you feel about the day?”, she starts the conversation again.
“Hah, it’s a great day, really, but I’m kind of nervous. Not about this day at all, no, but… the mission, you know?”, I mumble and just hope she understands what I try to say.
“Ah, yes, same here.”
I imagined the ceremony to be a lot more interesting, but I just want to sleep right now. Sleep, my dear sleep! The coaches hold some speeches who take more time than the whole eternity itself and besides them even some people of the government are here and have a speech as well. And it just is so very boring! Not that I don’t want to concentrate, but I just can’t!
David sleeps for real, his head laying on Sophie’s shoulder and I see, she’s fighting with sleep as well. But I am not allowed to do do, because Yasmina is sitting right besides me and she already promised me to kill me if I sleep. And with Yasmina I wouldn’t dare to take that thread lightly. She would do it without hesitation, so I really am still awake.
“Take a picture!”, she hisses suddenly.
“Huh? Why?”, I question. Why should I take one? This day is way too boring to be remembered.
“You’re staring, so I say take a picture, it will last longer!”, she explains. What? Did I? No!
“And so we congratulate the team, who ends their education today! This team of four people will start their first mission tomorrow and we wish them the best for it!”, Someone finally finishes his speech and the long lasting ceremony.
Finally!
“So? How do you feel?”, A person who seems to be from the government asks us, as Yasmina and I stand by David and Sophie who we first had to wake up, to talk to them.
“Ah, it’s an interesting feeling! We are really excited and waiting for the new part of our life! For me it’s similar to the feeling I had when I finished elementary-, middle- and highschool!”, Yasmina squeals and I wonder where she learned to act like that. I’ve never seen this by her before
“That is…”, I don’t listen to what the guy says anymore, I really don’t have the nerves to do so. I rather like to think about Yasminas unusual behaviour, but before I even come to think of that the guy already disappears and she turns back to us with a light smile.
“What is up with you today?”, I question her and narrow my eyes.
“What’s wrong?”, She asks, turning her head in my direction and looking at me with her sparkling green eyes. So not like her. No, definitely not!
“You act completely different than you do normally. Is something wrong today, or what is up with you?”, I explain my question to her. When did I ever have to do that? She’s so different today!
“Well, I seem to be quite nervous too, don’t you think?”, she asks as an answer. Well…
“But that is not all, isn’t it?”, I state the next question.
“Surely, it really is!”, she defends herself and turns her attention to Sophie. Well… Not like her!
“You’re right Finn.”, David says.
“With what?”, I play dumb. I want to hear it from his own mouth.
“She really acts different.”, he confides me too.
“That’s for sure.”
for visiting.
Time flies by. It flies too quickly sometimes. And so the day of our mission is here. But with the day arrives something else as well. It is named nervousness and tension. And it’s not only me, no Annabelle and Silvia too, and even Yasmina! So we four stand here, almost trembling and waiting for a coach to open the door to our meeting room.
“So what do you think about today?”, Silvia asks us with a certain undertone, that I would say is a kind of fear.
“You already asked twice today and you even did the days before. Don’t you remember?”, Yasmina tells her off, “You should know our answers now.”
“Yes, of course, sorry.”, Silvia just answers.
“Guys, I think it would be better to be nice to each other, even if we are all a little… stressed. But we’d surely work better if we aren’t in some kind of argument.”, Annabelle tries to get us calm again.
“I think she’s right.”, I agree.
Sooooo, children! Let’s start this!”, Mr. Arredson comes around the edge and takes out the keys to open the door. So we all follow behind him and get in the room. And with every step I take, the more I want to escape from here. I don’t know why, but I have a bad feeling about that all.
We four sit together in the first row and the two girls are talking about everything that might happen again, while Yasmina and I are just waiting and don’t talk. We prepare in another way than the girls do. I go through all that we learned in the past months and try to remember every single advice we received in our time as students. And I can guess Yasmina is doing exactly the same.
The teachers come in, one after another, and slowly the room gets filled.
“So! Your period of getting taught is over now! Now is the time to show what you have learned! Are you ready for you first mission?”, Mr. Arredson yells through the room.
