Contract Marriage: Emperor CEO’s Secretary Wife - Chapter 197
Lu Chen quickly dived into his work as soon as he returned to the office. Apart from his scheduled meeting with their important clients in the afternoon, his schedule is mostly compromised of signing paperwork, reading the finalized reports, keeping track of the status of their projects, and other tasks.
Aside from those, he’d receive calls from his subordinates from time to time about the updates regarding their investigation.
“I’ve already received Mr. Pei Ji Huang’s autopsy results.” Lu Shao announced to him as soon as he entered his office.
“Give it to me.” Lu Chen replied without looking up from reading the papers. After reading the results, he hummed in reply and returned the tablet to his personal secretary.
“Find out Yu Ming Xi’s transaction for the last five months. Don’t check his personal accounts, investigate the ones that he uses for his secret transactions.” Lu Chen instructed.
“Understood.”
As soon as Lu Shao left the room, Lu Chen finally raised his head and spun his chair to look at the view of the city behind him. His lips pressed into a thin line as he thought about the autopsy results of Pei Ji Huang.
A blunt force trauma in the head. Internal bleeding on his stomach.
So someone really murdered Pei Ji Huang.
Lu Chen’s suspicions lay on Yu Ming Xi. Contrary to the rumors about Pei Ji Huang, he was actually quite an honest man. Despite all the powers being offered in front of him as the Prime Minister’s son-in-law, Pei Ji Huang didn’t get attracted to the bribes and all.
He stood on his ground as an honest CEO that was why Lu Chen was more than happy to collaborate with him before.
Though, he couldn’t deny that Pei Ji Huang was also quite stupid. He was the type to easily trust others that’s why before he married Yu ZhenZhen, he was easily fooled by some of his friends into losing his money.
Lu Chen genuinely thought that Pei Ji Huang’s death is a big loss to his company. Because it was mainly his honesty and capability as a CEO that he was able to bring his company to new heights. And he was even almost going to have a breakthrough because his company is handling several important projects by the government.
Truly, it is a big loss.
With Pei Ji Huang’s popularity and company, Lu Chen couldn’t help but suspect Yu Ming Xi’s involvement in his death. Aside from his favorite style of being too showy and grand with his crimes, Lu Chen suspects that Pei Ji Huang somehow must have found out that Yu Ming Xi was involved in something illegal hence he was killed.
It’s still a possibility though he didn’t have that much expectation for it to be true. Yu Ming Xi is quite a careful person, or else all his involvement in his grand activities would have been long known to the public if he weren’t that careful.
And so Lu Chen tried to look at it from a different angle.
If Yu Ming Xi didn’t kill Pei Ji Huang, then that person must’ve had a personal grudge to Pei Ji Huang. With Pei Ji Huang’s current relationship with the Prime Minister, no sane person would dare to kill him at the moment just for a petty grudge or revenge.
Surely, if it was a work of an outsider then that person should be intelligent enough to plan to kill him. Lu Chen already had his men confirm that Pei Ji Huang’s name wasn’t on any ‘order to kill’ list throughout the underground city. They didn’t even find his name on the international list either so Lu Chen already crossed out the possibility of Pei Ji Huang being assassinated.
If he wasn’t assassinated, then this one must be a well planned out murder. A crime for passion doesn’t currently fit the picture at all.
Lu Chen took a deep breath as he quickly got rid of his current thoughts. At least for now, the possibility of his death being planned out can be partially confirmed. All the police needs are to find evidence that his death wasn’t on a whim.
He resumed working on his papers and didn’t notice that it was almost lunchtime.
On the other hand, Xiu Mei held the well-prepared homemade lunchbox as she climbed out of the car. With her current situation, it would be better if she doesn’t meet a lot of people for now so she decided to ride the elevator from the underground garage.
She swiped her card to access the top floor and the lift immediately moved and started going up.
“Oh my god, Ms.Xiu!!!” Her assistant screamed as soon as the elevator doors opened and she saw her figure inside. Her assistant stood up from her seat and almost jumped on her as soon as she got off the lift.
She could only smile as a response and willingly accepted the hug from her crying assistant.
“I think I’m going to die from overworking if you don’t return Ms.Xiu!!!” Her assistant immediately started complaining as soon as she saw her boss. With the amount of work that she had to cover with Ms. Xiu’s absence, her relationship with her boyfriend was almost on the edge plus she only realized just now that being able to sleep eight hours a night could even be considered a luxury for working-class people like her.
Xiu Mei chuckled without a sound listening to her complaints. She lightly patted her on the back before breaking their hug. She almost laughed when she saw the tears in her assistant’s eyes.
Aiya, now she somehow feels guilty for making her work so hard ah.
‘How are you holding up?’ She wrote on her tablet.
Her assistant sniffed as she read Xiu Mei’s message. She was already informed beforehand about her boss’ current situation so she didn’t ask her about it anymore.
“Ms.Xiu… will you take me in if my boyfriend and I break up? Waaaahh!!” And once more, she cried in her shoulders again pulling her into a hug.
Xiu Mei awkwardly patted her in the back as she listened to her complaints about her relationship for the last five minutes. Her assistant didn’t even care that they were still in front of the elevator, or that Lu Shao could clearly hear everything and that her voice may be loud enough to be heard from Lu Chen’s office.
After listening to her complaints and cries for the whole fifteen minutes, Lu Shao finally stood up and saved Xiu Mei from the clutches of her overworked assistant.
“No matter how much you want for comrade Xiu to take you in, you’ll definitely have to ask for the President’s permission first before anything.” Lu Shao casually uttered to the two females. Xiu Mei’s assistant flinched as she remembered that her boss and her final boss(the president) are actually together. And from what she picked up for the past few months, the two of them are currently living together.
She squealed in excitement. Isn’t that so sweet?! Who would have known that their cold and scary final boss would even live with a woman? The final boss talent in pushing away girls who tried to climb his bed is simply commendable you know! Almost all of them ended up having their own space in front of the newspaper the next day with their pictures all being thrown out of his room.
And now, who would have expected that the lady boss of Lu Corporation would be the company’s secretary, Ms. Xiu Mei? Kyaaah!!
While her mind was flying away into another dimension again, Xiu Mei finally escaped from her assistant’s clutches.
‘I’ll go first.’ Xiu Mei wrote to Lu Shao as she pointed to Lu Chen’s office. Lu Shao nodded.
Xiu Mei knocked twice before entering her husband’s office. And there, the first thing that welcomed her was the stockpile of folders scattered all throughout the table while Lu Chen was lying down on the couch, his eyes closed while his other hand was holding a folder.
She smiled at the sight of Lu Chen’s relaxed position as she thought of how tired he must have been that he took a nap in the middle of the day. It wasn’t his usual habit at all.
Xiu Mei entered the office with light footsteps and stopped before him. She carefully placed the lunchbox on the table and knelt on the floor near Lu Chen’s face.
She didn’t have any intention of waking him up at all. He must have been so tired to succ.u.mb to sleep at this time of the day.
She slightly leaned closer as she took a good look at his face. With her close proximity, she could clearly see the dark bags underneath his eyes.
Xiu Mei pursed her lips as she looked at him in distress.
She subconsciously reached out to stroke his hair when Lu Chen’s eyes suddenly opened while she was a few inches away from his face.
