Controlling Destiny - 10 Well, That Went Well
“Remember our mission, we must attack first or else our chances of success are very low,” the taller figure said.
The smaller figure nodded solemnly.
The two figures waited patiently on top of the roof without moving at all. Their stillness blended them into the night sky and it seemed as if they were not there at all.
Finally, there was the sound of a door being slid open from down below. “There she is!” The taller figure whispered as he finally saw Mavira walk out of the building.
They both quickly drank a glimmering potion each and cast various runics that covered their body in a soft glow.
The two figures jumped down from the roof silently and elegantly, like a pair of coordinated divers and their steel daggers flashed in the moonlight.
They made no sound as they fell and even the wind which should have been rushing past them made no sounds either as if failing to recognize their existence.
They swung their daggers quickly, and two quick cuts later, Mavira’s head slid cleanly from her shoulders and fell quietly to the ground.
The taller figure took a deep breath and said to the smaller figure. “Great job, I’m glad we could finish it so-”
However, before he could finish his sentence, he suddenly realized that his companion had completely vanished.
“What-” Quickly turning around, the taller figure grabbed for his dagger only to find that it was no longer sheathed on his belt.
Immediately afterward, he felt a sharp, jarring pain on the back of his neck and he fell to the ground completely paralyzed.
A figure walked over to him and kicked him over so he could see.
Looking upwards, he saw a cloaked figure holding tightly to his companion with one hand, and the other hand was on his dagger.
“Why aren’t you a pretty little thing,” the mysterious cloaked figure said mockingly to the figure she was grasping.
The taller figure on the ground suddenly shook in fear as he realized he recognized that voice.
“Impossible, you’re supposed to be dead, we lopped off your head!” He exclaimed.
“I’m supposed to be dead?” Mavira chuckled with mock sarcasm as she took off her cloak. “I’m sorry hon, but I don’t see a corpse anywhere.”
“That’s impossible, I saw your head fall off with my own two eyes!” The man said in confusion.
“I’m afraid you saw wrong,” Mavira laughed softly again as she gestured towards the empty courtyard. The decapitated corpse from before had vanished along with all bloodstains.
“Besides,” she said in a more cold tone, “aren’t you supposed to be worried about something else right now?”
She took the dagger and playfully stroked it across the smaller figure’s face leaving small cuts.
Feeling the sharpness of the blade, the smaller figure squirmed violently trying to escape the Mavira’s grasp but did not manage to even move an inch. No matter how much she kicked or fought, Mavira’s grip on her was like an iron cage.
“Leave her alone!” The man cried out in anger and frustration.
Realizing how powerless he was, the man cried out in desperation.
“Help, someone, anyone, help us please!” he shouted at the top of his lungs.
Mavira chuckled softly. “Ah yes, cry out as much as you want, but you are the ones who came to assassinate me, right?”
“And besides, I’ve already secured this courtyard with an illusion runic and noise-canceling as well. No one can see or hear us anymore. You can cry or scream until your lungs exploded, but no one would hear you.”
“Impossible, you never had time to draw any runes!” The man exclaimed with horror in his eyes.
“Ignorant fool!” Mavira shouted. “There are many secret arts that you can not even begin to comprehend, do not try to claim to know what is possible and what is not.”
Composing herself once again, Mavira fluffed down her robe once again and looked back at the girl she had in her grasp and licked her dry lips with anticipation.
“Now then,” Mavira said while playfully prodding the girl’s rib cage with her dagger, “shall we have some fun?”
