Couldn’t Hide the Feelings - Chapter 42
“Ah? You’ll be 27 then. ”
Ashley didn’t react very much for a moment, but she soon felt that something was wrong. “Wait, why did you ask about my age?”
“I see you always bring it up tonight.”
“… What’s the matter? ”
“I didn’t get you just now,” Jacob laughed. “But now I get it.”
“What?”
“What do you mean by that,” Jacob said in a loose tone, with a bit of ridicule. “When you see Mike getting married, you also want to get married.”
Ashley, “…”
“What are you thinking about at a young age?”
“…”
“Brother found that you haven’t reached the legal age of marriage.”
Jacob said, “One more year, Ash can get married. Don’t worry.”
“…”
Ashely put up with him and stopped looking at him. “Nice shot.”
“And in another year, I will only be 26, not 27.”
Ashley could not help retorting, “You are 26 this year, not 25.”
“I haven’t had my birthday yet. I’m only 25.”
Jacob turned the steering wheel and drove the car into Ashley’s community. “We are old and very sensitive to age, why don’t you understand?”
After a few seconds of silence, Ashley felt strange and began to guess again, “Is it true that someone says you are old recently?”
Jacob said lazily, “Apart from you, who else can say that I am old?”
Ashley paused for a moment, feeling somewhat guilty, “I haven’t said it many times.”
“Well, since I was 20.”
Jacob’s voice paused and he said faintly, “I’ve never felt young in my life.”
“…”
The car happened to arrive downstairs at Ashley’s house.
Ashley quickly unfastened her seat belt and pretended not to hear what he said, “Going home. Thank you, Brother Jacob. Remember to go to bed early. ”
“Wait a minute.”
Ashley tilted her head and said, “Why?”
Jacob reached out and loosened his necktie, suddenly took out a square box from another pocket, bent his lips, and said, “A New year present for Ash.”
“…”
She thought he forgot.
Ashley blinked slowly, reached out, and took it, “Thank you.”
Ashley went home and looked at the living room.
Sure enough, her parents haven’t come back yet.
She went straight back to her room, sat on the carpet beside the bed, and dug out the box she had just got.
It was a simple solid color box with a logo printed in the center.
She reached out to open the box.
Inside was a silver bracelet, the style looked like a fox.
At both ends were the head and tail, connected with a chain, embellished with a small drill, and wound around it.
It was engraved with the letters AY.
Ashley wear it on and stared at it for a long time.
Then, she took out her mobile phone and hesitated to search for “the meaning of giving bracelets.” the first one popped up:
–A man gives you a bracelet, which means to show love, and will watch over you for the rest of your life.
Seeing this, Ashley’s heart stopped half a beat, licked her lips, and continued to look down.
–The elders also often give bracelets as gifts to the younger generation to show their eternal concern and blessing.
“…”
‘Okay.’
After a while, she exhaled and put the bracelet back in the box.
Instead of thinking about it, she got up and pulled her suitcase, and began to pack the luggage she was going to take back to school tomorrow.
In addition to those brought back earlier, Ashley took a look around and brought the set of cosmetics sent by Jacob.
She took a bath and went to the living room to cut a piece of cake to eat.
Then she went back to her room and lay down on the bed.
Ashley took out her mobile phone, set the alarm clock, and then sent a message to Jacob: [What about leaving at six o’clock tomorrow? Let’s take a taxi there.]
Brother No. 2: [Sure.]
Ashley remembered something and asked: [Brother Jacob, why don’t you drink?]
Mike got married, and even she had a small drink, but he didn’t drink it at all.
Asley thought he would be drunk.
When she thought about it, she didn’t seem to have seen him drink.
After a long time.
Brother No. 2: [alcohol allergy.]
Ashley: [Oh, it’s good, though.]
Ashley: [it’s much better than I can’t drink milk and eat beef.]
When it was getting late, Ashley began to feel sleepy with her cell phone in her arms. As soon as she closed her eyes, she fell asleep in a daze.
Before she completely lost consciousness, she suddenly remembered what Jacob said today.
— ” Give us Ash, it won’t be a loss.”
At five o’clock the next morning, Ashley got up.
It was not yet dawn, and no sounds of Tim and Tim were heard outside.
For fear of disturbing them, Ashley moved gently and washed quickly in the bathroom.
When she came out, Grace also came out of the room wrapping in a coat.
“Ash,” Grace was not in good spirits. “Your father and I both had a drink yesterday, so we can’t drive you to the airport. Shall I call your brother to see you off? ”
“No.”
Ashley felt a little guilty that her mother was awakened and whispered, “I go with Brother Jacob. He came back to attend Brother Mike’s wedding yesterday, and he also went back today.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. Go back to bed, Mom.”
Ashley said, “My brother has had a drink, too. Don’t call him.”
Ashley returned to her room and sent a message to Jacob: [brother Jacob, are you awake?].
Jacob replied in a second: [Yep.]
She was relieved, sat down at the dresser, and put on light makeup quickly.
Ashley changed her clothes, then pulled up her suitcase and went out.
The temperature outside was lower than expected, as cool as a blade, with slight moisture, along with the pores into the bone.
Ashley sniffed, took out her cell phone, and called Jacob.
Soon, Jacob picked up.
His voice didn’t sound like he has stayed up late, following the current, clear and bright, “Coming out?”
Ashley said, “I’m going to leave the community now. Where are you?”
“In the bakery just outside,” Jacob said. “I’m buying breakfast. Did you have breakfast?”
“Not yet.”
“What would you like to eat?”
“A sandwich will work.”
Ashley thought for a moment, “An extra egg tart.”
“Cool.”
Ashley hung up the phone and her hands were a little stiff with cold.
She shrank her neck, took the gloves out of her bag, put them on, and continued to drag the suitcase slowly.
When she left the community, she saw Jacob not far away with a black duffel bag.
He came over, handed her the plastic bag in his hand, pulled her suitcase, and put his bag on it.
Ashley looked at it and said, “Have you eaten?”
“No, I’ll eat in the car later.”
Jacob said, “Drink soy milk first.”
“Oh.”
Ashley hooked the plastic bag on her wrist, took off her gloves, poked a bottle with a straw, and handed it to him, “You drink first.”
Jacob took it and said with a smile, “Thank you, Ash.”
The two waited by the side of the road for a while and stopped a taxi.
Ashley handed him the sandwich from the bag, and then took care to unpack another package.
She was about to take a bite when she suddenly noticed that Jacob was silent and just looked sideways at the sandwich in her hand.
“…”
Ashley was embarrassed to be stared at like this. She hesitantly handed him the sandwich in her hand. “Do you want it?”
Jacob took over, with an ambiguous tone, he said, “Thank you, Ash.”
“…”
‘He is strange.’
There were only a dozen egg tarts left in the bag.
Ashley can only take one out to eat, staring at the sandwich in his hand, looking a little unhappy, “Do you want to eat two?”
Jacob, “Mm-hmm.”
He paid for it, so Ashley can’t say anything.
But she remembered he just said that he wanted to eat a sandwich, she can only say euphemistically, “Then why don’t you buy three.”
“What for?”
Jacob didn’t seem to understand and said carelessly, “I can’t eat three.”
“…”
Ashley held back the fire and continued to nibble on the egg tart.
Before long, Jacob ate one and unpacked the other.
He stopped, raised his brow slightly, and handed it to Ashley, “Do you want to eat?”
Ashley didn’t lift her eyelids, “No.”
Ashley, “Can you be full with an egg tart?”
Ashley, “No.”
“Then why don’t you eat?”
“I don’t eat food handed out.”
“…”
Jacob was stupefied for a moment and suddenly began to chuckle, as if in great interest. “It’s not a handout.”
Ashley drank soya-bean milk and said, “You are full, so you give it to me.”
“I’m full? Such a sandwich,” Jacob said, “I can eat three more.”
Ashley tilted her head and said, “Then why didn’t you give it to me just now?”
“I’m just messing with you.”
Jacob, with a pair of deep and bright eyes, stared straight at her and said calmly, “If you act spoiled with brother, brother will give it to you.”
“…”
‘The older the man is, the more shameless he is.’
Ashley resisted the impulse to complain, “In your dream.”
“Do you need some preparations?”
Jacob put the sandwich in her hand. “Then get ready, brother will wait.”
Ashley took it very seriously and repeated the words she just said, “I said in your dream.”
“Mm-hmm.”
Jacob smiled. “Ash is really cute. ”
“…”
Ashley inexplicably understood how Liam felt yesterday.
Ashley stopped talking to him, put on the hat on her coat after eating the sandwich, and closed her eyes.
She got up early today and soon fell asleep.
When e woke up, they were already at the airport.
The two went to get their boarding passes and chose two seats side by side.
Ashley still felt sleepy and went to the terminal to find another seat and continued to sleep with her eyes closed.
It was Jacob who woke her up at the beginning of boarding.
The seats of the two were connected to three seats, and the two of them sat close to the inside.
Jacob asked Ashley to sit on the inside, reminding her to fasten her seat belt.
Ashley took out the bottle from her bag, and the water in it was just filled by Jacob in the terminal for her.
She opened the lid of the bottle and took a sip.
Jacob said to Ashley, “Is it cold?”
Ashley shook her head and said, “Nope.”
Soon, the man next to Jacob also sat down.
The man put his bag on the rack.
Then he looked at Jacob next to him and soon withdrew his sight.
The next moment, as if something was wrong, he looked at him again and stared at Jacob for a long time.
“Oh, you’re Jacob, aren’t you?”
Hearing this, Jacob turned his head.
Ashley also followed the voice and looked over.
He was a man of the same age as Jacob.
Wearing a pair of black-rimmed glasses, the man has fair skin.
“It’s really you.”
The man said excitedly, “I’m James, remember? We were in the same junior high school. ”
Jacob looked at him quietly and said nothing.
“Long time no see, how many years has it been? It seems that we used to be deskmates. ”
James added, “They had another classmate reunion not long ago. Why didn’t you go? I didn’t go this time because my mother was sick. ”
Jacob withdrew his sight and said with a smile, “I’m quite busy.”
“Well.”
Aware of his indifference, Jacob said, “I heard from Kathy that your work is very busy now. You should earn a lot of money, right?”
With that, noticing Ashley next to him, James said curiously, “Is this your girlfriend? Wait, how did I hear that you and Kathy are getting married? ”
Ashley was stunned.
“…”
Jacob obviously felt inconceivable and skimmed his head.
After pausing for several seconds, he suddenly smiled in an absurd tone. “What did you say?”
“Isn’t it? I forgot who said it. ”
James was a little embarrassed and said to Ashley, “Don’t mind. No offense.”
Ashley leaned to Jacob’s ear and whispered, “Who is Kathy?”
Jacob said faintly, “The woman we met in the hot pot restaurant before.”
“…”
Ashley was a little confused about the situation.
James, next to him, asked again, “So this is your girlfriend?”
Jacob turned his head and whispered something, but Ashley didn’t hear it clearly.
Soon, Jacob turned to look at her again.
Ashley hesitated and said, “Well…”
Noticing her expression, Jacob explained earnestly, “We don’t have any relationship, and she is not my ex-girlfriend.”
He stared at Ashley, his eyebrows broadened a little, “Besides, I seem to have promised you?”
“What?”
“If I have a girlfriend,” Jacob raised his eyelids and said slowly, “I will show us Ash first.”
