Crystalline Universe: Team Fortress 2 Overwatch - Volume 2

Putting both of his arm joints on his desk while crossing his fingers in front of his mouth, the engineer has more thoughts than questions. If there are difficult roads in life, he was surely walking one of them because he knows, he has to face this day, the day where his father dies. But in those instants of truth, he felt something more than grief, the feeling of guilt.

Dane (While cleaning his eyes full of tears) – I do believe what you told me but that young man, Mike, is everything you said happened to him real?

Kadyn – All of it is true, I have no reason to lie. If something bad happened to him, I would have no reason to live.

Dane – Tell me what do you need, I’m ready to take full responsibility for what my father did to him.

Kadyn (confused) – No mister Conagher, you should not feel responsible, your father was a great man, it was Mike who lost it.

Dane (compassionate) – You are a very kind person, from what you told me, it’s what I believe you are. But people with a heart of gold can sometimes not see through the mask worn by a bad man. By that, I didn’t mean Mike but my father.

Kadyn (surprised and furious) – Mister Conagher, your father was also a kind man! Why are you insulting him, he’s now in a better world, show some respect!

Dane (calm) – You have to calm down and listen! I didn’t finish yet. I mean can’t you see? He used Mike to free himself and avenge his suffering. From everything you told me, I wanna make sure what he did to Mike. So answer me properly the following question with an answer and not another question or opinion! Got it?

Kadyn – I’ll be answering, go on!

Dane – Good! Now, answer me, what did he show to Mike when they are inside that laboratory?

Kadyn – I know it was videos but of what I don’t know.

Dane – Alright, about Mike, he lost his family and friend at the age of 7?

Kadyn – Yes.

Dane – Apparently, Sniper murdered them from what you heard when the two of them was fighting.

Kadyn – Yeah.

Dane – Then can’t you see? My father, after years of imprisonment, wanted revenge on Sniper by taking what is most precious of him against him. To do that, he showed Mike videos recording of his family and friends murdered by Sniper or his henchman which drove Mike to a frenzy of rage and in that rage, he fought Sniper and killed him. And… wait you told me that he seems lost in his rage and start speaking nonsense and wanted blood on his hand in brutal manners?

Kadyn (worried) – Yeah! That’s what I wanted you to help, I didn’t tell you because I’m afraid you might decline.

Dane – What? Is he alright right now?

Kadyn (sobbing) – I don’t know, I don’t know, (tear), I don’t…

Dane – Alright, girl, come with me we are going to the medic, we are talking about mental stuff here.

Kadyn (crying in silence) – Ok, ok…

Dane (Holding Kadyn by the shoulder) – It’s alright, it’s alright, I wanted to help because my father did all this. As his son, I’m ready to take responsibility for his actions. I’m grateful for your help, you bravely left one of the most dangerous gang and got all the way here to see me and tell me about my father’s last wishes and words. I see that you are a kind person, you wanted nothing more than the well-being of everyone around you, I truly respect your courage and determination. Now, you think that you are alone but remember, you are not, we are here to help. Mike helped my father, I will do the same for that man. I swear that I will not quit unless I see him fully healed and back to your side as who he was before the incident.

Kadyn (with hope) – Thank you from the deepest of my heart.

With that said, both of them soon got on a ship heading toward the medical cruiser, where the medic was.

Back in the bridge, things aren’t looking good as McCain’s fleet caused serious trouble to North-America and is not advancing toward Mexico. Many generals and commander were discussing whether should they intercept McCain’s fleet right away or wait a little longer for reinforcements.

*In the bridge of the mothership

General (worried) – Gentlement, listen to me, from our calculation, we have a 50% chance of success against McCain’s fleet but I think we should not take this risk, as losing war assets is not an option for our current situation.

Captain 76 (furious) – Sir, I beg your pardon but by the time the 3rd fleet arrives from V.i.r.g.i.nia, Thousand or not millions would have been dead from McCain’s ravage. Our best course of action is to intercept his fleet before more people die. We made the mistake of not stopping him in the first place to guard our border but now, casualties from his attacks reached 22 million! It’s time to act! We are soldiers, we fight for the people, not for our well-being.

Commander and generals looked at each other and five of them walked toward the central screen.

– We agree with 76, who else here agree with him?

Inspired by their support, 7 others opened their mouth to give their consents.

The general, pressured by their movement, said with hesitation but without fear:

– Let those murderers pay for their crimes and show Talon what we are made of, you have my consent, captain 76.

– For the people and the world, said the others high rankings

The moment the holograms of the generals and commanders closed themselves as the meeting ended, an officer called the captain’s attention.

Officer – Sir, we picked an incoming message from McCain’s fleet.

Captain 76 – Let’s hear it!

A hologram of McCain appeared in front of 76. The old captain Zack McCain looked menacingly at 76. After a moment of silence, the old captain spoke:

McCain – So, 76, do you want to surrender before you shame Overwatch for losing against me?

76 – The battle hasn’t even started and here you are, foolish and confident.

McCain – I want an answer to my question, not an opinion!

76 – I’ll answer you with the mouth of my canons!

McCain – You sure are hard-headed 76, I’ll be waiting for you at Mexico’s border so once you’ll be defeated, I can free Mexico from your country’s rule.

76 – It will be you and your men that will be free when I will be sending all of you to the underworld.

McCain looked at 76 with a smile before ending the conversation with a confident look on his face.

76 (at the officer) – All engine full power, get there as soon as possible!

officer (to his men) – All engine full power, alert all other cruisers to follow the same action.

The fleet all started their engines glowing with fiery blue energy blasting out of every thruster. The fleet moved menacingly toward Belize, where McCain waited for them.

Radio – All fleet personnel, prepare for battle, artillery crews, pilots, gunnery crews, maintenance teams, engineers, medics, rescue crews, officers and operators must be ready in 15 minutes.

Squads of pilots ran toward their fighters as gunnery crews ran and sat inside the control room of each canon around the ship. Officers communicated with the many other personnel as the artillery crews started to prepare the missiles launcher.

76 was determined to win, he knows the life of a million more people will be in his hand if he fails, people will die. He looked right outside the glass separating him and the sky, the cloud was orange due to the sun, he closed his eyes as his past flashed in front of him, the fall of Overwatch, Reaper, Blackwatch, Talon. Taking a breath, he suddenly reopened his eyes, now filled with resoluteness and bravery.
