The medical room was quiet with not a single sound for hours while Azur remained unconscious in the patient bed. The medical instruments beside her slowly gave her fluid while she slept peacefully as if nothing happened. Behind her room’s door, the doctor discussed with the young field medic about her condition. After a short talk, the doctor walked away while the young man silently stepped into the chamber.
He noiselessly sat on the chair beside her bed and reached his hand out to analyze her abdominal wound but before he could touch the bondages, Azur grabbed his wrist.
[Azur] (in a menacing tone) – “Don’t touch me! ”
[Paxton] – “Oh, you’re awake already. ”
[Azur] – “Get your hand off me! ”
[Paxton] – “Hi, I’m Paxton, I’ll be taking care of you from now on. ”
[Azur] (in an arrogant tone) – “I don’t need anyone to take care of me, thank you very much. ”
Azur rapidly unplugged herself from the medical equipment while pushing Paxton’s hand away.
[Paxton] – “Wait a minute, what are you doing? ”
[Azur] – “Not wasting my time here in this bed or with you. ”
The girl hastily dressed in her usual clothes, grabbed her cap and exited the room without wasting a second. The young medic quickly jumped out of his chair and joined Azur in her walk.
[Paxton] – “You can’t just leave like this! ”
[Azur] (in an ignorant tone) – “Why not, are you the one to make the decision? ”
[Paxton] – “Where are you going? I can maybe help you out. ”
Azur suddenly stopped in her track and stared directly back at the young man in an annoyed face.
[Azur] – “Look, can you just leave me alone for a minute? I had a rough night and you are just making my day even worse. ”
[Paxton] – “I was just trying to help, nothing more! ”
[Azur] – “Help me by not being here then! ”
An awkward silence was installed between the two and after a few seconds, Paxton moved backward.
[Paxton] – “I guess I’ll just leave then… ”
[Azur] – “Good! ”
[Paxton] – “And if you are trying to find Dane, you have to turn right instead of going straight. ”
Azur sighed and crossed her arms while Paxton kept on walking backward.
[Paxton] – “And before I disappear, may I at least have your name? ”
Azur showed a small grin and before Paxton could understand its meaning, he stubbled into a cleaning droid behind him and fell down a set of stairs. The girl stood at the top of the stairs and stared down at the young medic laying down below.
[Paxton] – “Ow… this is mean… ”
Even though she’s not in the mood for empathy, Azur still felt bad for the clumsy young medic.
[Azur] – “Azur, that’s my name. Now keep your annoying ass away from me! ”
As the girl walked away, Paxton slowly got up and pulled a micro-speaker out of his pocket.
[voice] – “Why are you wasting your time with her? Focus on the mission! ”
[Paxton] – “I only wanted to try my luck. ”
[voice] – “You are horrible with girls! Plus, she’s not your type. ”
[Paxton] – “Oh! If you think you can do better then come and try! ”
[voice] – “We’ll see. ”
*Somewhere in the Australian outback
Mike’s expressionless eye glanced through the scoop of his rifle with a concentrated and precise aim at the target plate. He showed no sign of weakness or vulnerability as if he was a true merciless assassin ready to hunt down his goal.
[Rick] – “Now, the final test to see if it worked as intended. ”
Rick abruptly threw the hologram projector in front of Mike’s field of vision and activated the recording. But this time, Mike didn’t even show a single once of emotion or reaction to the recording. Sturdy as wood and cold as a stone, Mike filled the target plate’s center with holes as he pulled the trigger without a second of hesitation.
In the end, he emptied 6 magazines of 100 bullets each with none missing their target, all 600 rounds hit the central point at a distance of 1000 metres.
[Rick] – “Holy-Dooley… That’s bloody impressive, mate. ”
[Mike] (in a frustrated tone) – “Maybe… But I could’ve been doing this all day long if it wasn’t for that stupid recording. ”
[Rick] – “What about the recording then? How ya’re feeling? ”
[Mike] – “Annoyed by it, apathetic for its content and emptied of feeling. ”
[Rick] – “Um… Great… I guess you are prepared for what’s coming next. ”
[Mike] – “I’m feeling ready to do whatever it takes! ”
[Rick] – “Then follow me, we need to get moving. ”
[Mike] – “Moving where? ”
[Rick] – “Moving to build the base of your throne, moving to take back what those mongrels took away from you, moving toward success. ”
[Mike] – “Why has it to be me? I want nothing more than seeing that face one last time so I could feel at peace, why bother to go so far? ”
[Rick] – “Because you have potential and power! Because you have destiny and courage! Because ya’re are more than just a sad little boy crying about the loss of his girlfriend! Sniper, he would be the best of an example of a going down the path of the sobbing little bitch. A man has to learn to stand up once he has fallen, no matter how many bloody times he falls. ”
[Mike] – “You mean he also… ”
[Rick] – “A conversation for another time! ”
As Rick walked led the way to his van, Mike stopped at the hologram that was still playing.
He stared at Kadyn’s projection with the eyes of a dead man, his face stiff and frozen, his heart silent and empty.
[Mike] (in a harsh cold voice) – “The most beautiful mistake I ever made is also my most foolish one. I hope you’ll just forget that I ever existed because I will no longer come back, I’m just a shadow, a nonexistent memory, a glitch in your world. This is my final promise, I’m Mike Mundy, Gio is gone. ”
With a snap of his hand, Mike destroyed the projector and walked away, never to look back.
The harsh truth of reality is that it’s not a fantasy.
It’s not because, morally, love is the most powerful weapon that it would be true in real life. It’s not because the gain of power means an empty heart that it will translate to real life. Without significant power, one can only dream about his or her wildest dream without ever managing to archive it.
Because the society of the real-life is not the society from a fictional work.
*Somewhere in England
Through the little snowstorm, Karson marched while shielding Mergiann from the snow that is constantly attacking their defenceless faces. Once in front of a post office, the pair stepped inside the building and waited behind the small line of people.
Once their turn, Mergiann gave her letter to the mailman while he gave Mergiann her mail from her family in Germany.
“Dear Mergiann,
We have been waiting for so many years without seeing your cute baby face, the money you sent us helped us more than anything exceptionally for your sister who recently started a family of her own. We hope that we could meet soon, my dear beloved daughter.
Love from mom. ”
[Karson] – “Are ye going back to see them this year? ”
[Mergiann] – “Maybe when I’ll have the time. ”
[Karson] (surprised) – “You gotta! I mean you haven’t seen them ever since you left them to join the executioners. ”
[Mergiann] (in a joyful voice) – “I hope… I truly hope! ”

[Darlynn] – “Then that’s it, mister Brian, and miss Bertha. I’ll leave the rest to you, take care of him for me, I left you with 10 million dollars in this suitcase. ”
[Brian] – “Don’t worry, Darlynn, we promise you. ”
[Bertha] (in a soft voice) – “We will take care of him as if he was our child, don’t you worry. ”
[Darlynn] (in a sorrow-filled voice) – “Say goodbye to him for me, my little brother, he means a lot for me. ”
[Brian] – “We will, good luck, Darlynn, you are a nice person! ”
[Bertha] – “You are a noble girl with a heart of gold, we wish you luck. ”
[Darlynn] (in a sad voice) – “Then I’ll be taking my leave, thank you, mister and miss. ”
Darlynn left with a grieving face but deep inside her heart, the flame of revenge still burned to her memory of the execution. Justice will be brought upon the one responsible for the murders, the innocents’ death will not be in vain.
