“What is the matter, Eddra…?” his mother worriedly asked, still not pulling off, putting pressure on his hand.
Eddra was not aware he had stood there, staring intently to the warning he saw from the plate for almost 10 seconds. Even the noise from his arguing siblings had also died out as they noticed his serious expression. His sibling must have thought that their older brother was annoyed by the expression drawn on his face.
“… It was nothing, Mother,” was his assured reply, making his mother brush away the worriedness in her mind. “When can I enroll in an academy?” Eddra asked, not minding the warning he just read from the [System].
“Yes.” A soft smile formed on her lips. “We can talk it out later after the meal!” She pulled off her hands on his, clasping them together as she ordered the servants waiting in the corner of the room to draw out their meals.
One after another, the trays on the maids’ hands revealed the delicious meals: from baked mashed potatoes to three roasted chickens, and some saffron buns and custard pudding.
Eddra, who was shrugging the [System] simply enjoyed the meal placed on his table. Yes, this was what he wanted, to live a simple life away from the stressful everyday training course in the military. He would rather be a scholar, or maybe he might even awaken his potential to be a mage. Smirking to himself, Eddra thought he could probably unleash the full capacity of his intelligence and wisdom if he would enter an academy.
…
The celebration of becoming an adult was simple yet loud because of his siblings. However, it was not similar to what Eddra remembered since the memory stored in his mind was a chaotic celebration.
It was raining heavily. And because of it, the meals on the table were soaked, and all of his family members and the servants waiting outside were drenched in the rain. It was an embarrassing celebration since he was the one insisting to have the meal in the garden. If Eddra didn’t order the servants to bring the table back inside, the embarrassment would have been repeated…
After they had eaten their meals, Eddra chose to go back to his room to survey the plate without any distractions.
There was no doubt the [System] was pertaining to his death. If the Eddra would follow what it would tell him to do, then he would still end up meeting the general knight and be forced to join the military.
If choosing to ignore the plate would be his death, the eternal slumber he was waiting for, wouldn’t this was a chance given to Eddra? Moreover, if the [System]’s intention was only to mess him up, even in his dream, Eddra might still be able to avoid entering the hellish military. Nodding to himself, either of these two would solve his problem.
“… [Inventory].” Eddra placed his two fingers on his temple. Sigh. Even the [System] was telling him to enter and was forcing him.
Ding!
A similar plate, however, it was in a portrait rectangle form, showed itself in front of him. Eddra noticed a few boxes were dividing the name of the plate above it, which was [Inventory], and the empty space below it. The first box was called [Melees]. Next to its right were boxes in order: [Bows], [Shields], [Armors], and lastly, [Materials].
Ding!
The third plate floated in the air.
[This is where all the reward items are stored. Here, you can ‘Pull Out’ u0026 ‘Store In’ items.]
‘To pull out… an item?’ Eddra remembered the reward he received earlier from the [System], it was the useless cloth of the table.
Rummaging in the plate, Eddra pressed the last box that was called [Materials]. Once his finger touched it, the box lightened and the supposedly empty space below the box showed an image of the white table cloth with its quantity on its top left corner.
‘… Holy shit…’ Eddra cursed to his mind in astonishment. This dream of his was extremely unbelievable and surreal. Who would have thought Eddra attained such a thing?
“[Pull Out].”
He recited, however, nothing happened. Did it had to be physically pulled out and not verbally stating it? When this method had come into Eddra’s mind, he instantly tried it.
Raising a hand in the air, Eddra placed it on top of the image and his hand disappeared as he thrust in. Shortly, when he began to feel the cloth, he slowly pulled it out, gradually revealing the long white table cloth.
“I… I did it–”
“Milord, the Baroness is waiting for you in her study.” Interrupted by the knocks, Eddra heard Gale’s voice behind the door and he hurriedly shoved the cloth back in the [Inventory].
“Ah, yes! Tell her I will come there shortly!” was his hurried reply, eyeing the plate once more, leaving it as it is.
“…The Baroness also added that I should fetch the Lord immediately,” Gale continued.
Opening the door in his room, it revealed the composed butler and Everette before him. “Why the rush?”
“I do not know, Milord. Ask the Baroness yourself.”
Summoning him in an instant, his mother might be eager to enroll him in an academy. This was what she probably wanted in the past, too, however, he declined her wishes.
“… And is she calling Eve, too?”
Eddra knotted his eyebrows. Maybe calling his second brother along with him was a scenario he did not recognize in the past. The only thing he recalled was after Eddra did not accept the idea of him enrolling in an academy, he was the only one summoned in her mother’s study.
“Yes, she is.”
