Cursed Souls - Chapter 12 12 Hurdles

Noah ran down the hall. And grabbed Ava’s sholders.

“WHERE’S OAKI?!?” He yelled with a distraught tone in his voice.

“I don’t know!” She looked down at Kure worried.

“Help me bring him to the Meda-U!” She screamed.

Noah and Ava picked Kure up and carried him to the Meda-u.

Chris was walking over to a table in the cafeteria when he collapsed. Two guys picked him up off the floor and brought him to the Meda-U next. Noah looked over.

“What the hell happened to him?” Noah said sounding a bit surprised.

“OAKI!” He screamed.

Chris was unconscious. His eyes closed and his body tense. He was laid onto a bed and then the two boys left. Chris being in his presence always made Noah annoyed. Noah looked over back at Kure trying to be less annoyed.

“He’s going to need stitches in the back of his head.” Noah said in a neutral tone.

Ava was sitting on the side of the bed holding his hand sobbing.

“HELP!” A girl screamed behind him.

Noah turned around to see Chris seizing. His body was convulsing. His eyes rolled back. And he was choking. Noah ran over and turned him on the side and placed a plastic spoon in his mouth. He ran over and grabbed some vile of clear bluish fluid and shot it into Chris’s leg. Chris continued to seize for another minute before coming to a stop. Just then he opened his eyes. They were a gray green color. The same color of Oaki’s. He thought to himself, they look exactly like hers. Noah looked at him.

“Oaki?” He said looking down at Chris. Then he snapped out of it.

He closed his eyes again. And lay motionless in the bed. Noah grabbed a stethoscope and listened to his heart beat. It was racing. He stared at Chris. He opened Chris eye and shined a small flashlight into it. His eyes did not dilate. Instead his pupils were large. He let go of Chris. And started over to the medical journals and started to flip through the pages frantically trying to find an answer. Kure opened his eyes and looked over at Ava. She smiled and jumped into his arms. He smiled and hugged her. Then grabbed his head. A girl in baise clothes from this hospital floor asked him to turn over. He obeyed and she started to stitch up a small area on the back of his head. She shined a light in his eye then asked him to walk. He had a concussion. Ava took Kure down to the cafeteria.

They listened to the lecture of there new reality and the arguing people did about what to do. Most people agreed to just continue going on the same as they had before. With the truth brought to light many people left feeling unsettled and fearful. In a sense it brought people closer together and more codependent on each other. Noah was left puzzled unsure of what diagnosis to give Chris, and what to do to help his condition. Kure and Ava went back to their room and Ava watched over Kure. In just about one weeks time he would be completely healed up. After feeling previously cornered into opening up he thought it best to get “revenge” on Ava. He hammed it up pretending to be more hurt to get more attention from her.

“Ava it hurts to move can you help me to the table?”

She always jumped up in a rush to help him. He got bored with this after the first day so instead decided to try to make her angry to keep things more interesting.

“Ava have I ever mentioned that CRIMSON is a very seductive color?”

“Ew Kure! Don’t even get any ideas.” She looked at him shyly and nervous. “Why do you bring that up?” She asked.

“Because” He said indifferently.

He rolled over to his side ignoring her. She came over to the side of the bed. Just then he grabbed her and lifted her completely off of the ground then tossed her to the side of the bed. She giggled then got mad at him.

“Is this how you treat a lady?” She said in a insulted tone.

“No but I don’t see any of those around here.” He said jokingly.

She stood up. Well when you need someone call Ember. She walked out of the room. He got up. What did I say? He thought. Eh whatever. He let the thought flow out of his mind the decided to take a nap.

Mean while Chris was in the Meda-U. He opened his eyes and looked around. The first thing he saw being Noah’s face definitely did not give him a over joyed feeling. Noah grabbed a flashlight and pointed it in his eye.

“Ta hell are you doing?” He said looking aggravated by Noah.

“You has a seizure lay down.” Noah said authoritatively.

Chris rolled his eyes and got up.

“I’m fine. And I definitely don’t want or need any help pretty boy.” Chris said. He got up and started to walk away.

“Wait before you go…” now said in a very unsure tone.

“What do you want now pretty boy? Oh and don’t think this gets you any favors from me… I didn’t ask you to save me. If I died oh well. But don’t think I owe you anything.” He scoffed.

“Why did you say Oaki before?” Noah asked ignoring Chris’s arrogant tone.

Chris paused for a second. He didn’t know how to answer. He decided to play it off and ignore Noah.

“Don’t know what you mean.” He said sauntering out of the doors.

Chris looked down after he left. Where could she be. He closed his eyes and tried to focus. But his head was pounding. He knew in his heart something was off about her. He walked around the compound back up to the rooftop. He laid back and tried to think. He closed his eyes but this time nothing. No Oaki in a pretty dress smiling. No smell of peaches. Nothing. He laid back again then felt a sharp pain in his right shoulder and his left rib cage. He fell to the ground gasping for air. He looked around and saw snow falling and a dead women in upside down the car next to him. The women had black tight curly long hair, and long eye lashes that reminded him of Oaki. He felt tears in his eyes. And the cold stinging. He looked down and saw he was bleeding profusely. The pain was so excruciating. He tried to get to his knees.

“STOP! WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS!” He screamed

Then the pain went away and he was back on the rooftop. No one else in sight. He looked at his hands. What the hell was going on he thought. He looked around again. His heart felt heavy. He went back down to talk to Kure.

“HELLOOO!” He banged on the door.

No one was answering but the light was on. He knew someone had to be home. Kure rolled over off the bed in a daze.

“ONE MINUTE!” He yelled.

He stumbled over to the door and opened it.

“Oh… hey.” He said disappointed. He kinda hoped it would be Ava with some food.

“Where’s oaki?” He said.

Kure’s heart dropped…

“No one told you?” He said confused.

“Told me..?” Chris said in a angrier tone this time.

“Oaki… is gone.” Chris looked over at Kure with tears in his eyes.

“She can’t be….there’s no way she’s… she’s…” he paused to clear his choked up throat. “She’s dead?”

“Not dead. Taken. Someone stole her.”

“WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN SOMEONE STOLE HER!?!” He said sounding outraged. “HOW CAN YOU JUST SIT ON YOUR ASS IF SHE’S BEEN TAKEN?”

“Well… yea see… MY ASS HAS A CONCUSSION! AND WAS HIT OVER THE HEAD BY THE LUNATIC WHO STOLE HER!” Kure said getting angry himself.

Chris grabbed the door and slammed it behind him as he walked away down the hall. He went back up to go find Noah.

“Okay pretty boy. Let’s go find my girl.” Chris said cocky as usual.

“You..r…. your… what do you mean your girl?” Noah said slightly offended.

“Someone has taken my warrior princess. Now get up and come help me. You in or not?” He said starting to walk back out the door.

Noah sighed. Of course he was in. He wanted to find his girl. They walked around the compound.

“If you were someone in a black mask where would you want to hide with someone you kidnaped?” Noah said aloud thinking to himself.

“Oh no.” Chris said stopping dead in his tracks.

“What?” Noah asked confused.

“Either the plots. Or the caverns” He said pretty confident.

“Why there?” He asked.

“I’m not sure but I just have a feeling” he said.

Noah looked down and thought to himself… last week he saw a person come to the Meda-U who wasn’t from the 102 that looked lethargic. Except this person has knife wounds on his body. Noah looked up in a panic.

“I know who has her” Noah said looking at Chris.

Chris started to walk back to there room. They went to go get Ember and Elijah. They walked into there room. Ember was pale white and Elijah looked like he was in shock.

“What’s the matter with you two?” Noah asked.

“NOTHING!” Ember said right away in an attempt to play it off. “Why whats up guys?” She continued.

“Wanna help us save the damsel?” Chris said with a daring look in his eyes.

“Sure.” They both said. Elijah looked more normal now. Less fearful and shocked.

“By the way this came under your door today.” Ember said handing him a green envelope.

“What’s this?” Noah asked.

Chris grabbed the envelope and tore it open.

“It’s a ransom note.” He said with a pissed off tone in his voice. “They have Oaki we have seven hours before she’s dead.”

Ava waltzed into the room suddenly.

“My goodness if you have ever heard how Kure talks to me..” She said rambling on.

Noah turned around and looked at her. “Shut up!” He said in a loud voice.

Ava looked startled. “Su…su… Sorry.” She said with a shiver down her spine. She had never seen Noah so angry. She continued,

“whats ..um… what’s going on guys?” She said quietly.

“Someone took Oaki, and now we have eight hours to find her or else they are going to hurt or possibly kill her.” Noah said seriously.

“KURE! GET YOUR ASS IN HERE!” She yelled down through the hatch.

Kure leaped out of bed and ran into the room.

“Elijah, Noah, Chris… you best not lay a hand on Ava! She’s my girl” he said in a confident voice.

“You idiot no one is gonna do anything. Someone has Oaki and is holding her for ransom” Ember interrupted.

Ava was beat red and blushing. Kure however was caught in between completely and utter confusion and anger.

“Um. What did you just say?” Kure said angrily.

“Who has her?” Asked ember level headed.

“They call themselves the BOWS, and they take completely responsibility for killing the boy and girl down in the plots a few weeks ago.” Chris said.

Elijah finally spoke up.

“…so… what your saying is… a couple of psychos have Oaki?”

They all looked at each other and in agreement said…

“We need to find her… now!”

Ember turned to the group. “Who would want to take a tiny, sweet cutie like her? What monsters!”

Kure chuckled. He thought of how if she were here right now she would wince and roll her eyes at the thought of being called ring sweet or a cutie. They all left the room and went down to the plots. Out of everyone Noah looked distraught and lost. How could I let this happen he thought. How could I let this happen? The door closed behind them and they started to walk out into the hallway. Elijah and Ember hung back a little bit.

“I don’t think you should be going… Yanno… in your condition” he said to ember in a hushed voice.

“I don’t care what you think, and shhh, right now no one else needs to know about this situation. We can talk about it after Oaki is found.” She said in a tone that indicated there would be no further discussion on the topic.

Kure and Ava also walked together. She looked over at him and felt her face filling with warmth. Then finally got up the nerve to say something.

“… so I’m YOUR girl now huh?” She said smiling and looking down.

“Not now Ava we will talk about this later.” He said in a serious tone. He was focused on getting Oaki but also desperately avoiding this conversation with Ava.

The two in the front started talking as well.

“So what do you want the plan to be when we find her?” Noah asked.

“I don’t know. The note just said that we had eight hours, which was written two hours ago… so really six hours to find her, and that they wanted to know how to talk to the people in charge. They wanted to know how I got the video, and how we knew to find the 102 ‘discovered’. They are inherently on a quest to get information.”

“Okay… but why Oaki?” Noah questioningly said.

“They probably thought she would have the answer or knew? I don’t know. Maybe they thought it was the only way to get to us?” Chris said.

“Do you know how to fight?” Noah asked.

“Don’t worry sugar..” he said looking over to Noah grinning, “I can definitely hold my own in a fight.” He said arrogant as ever.

Noah rolled his eyes. They approached the stairwell to the plots and started to walk down into the torch lit area.
