Cursed Souls - Chapter 5 5 Morning Moments

Everyone looked at each other. Too stunned to say anything. Kure’s roommate walked up behind him.

“I’m scared will you walk me back to our room?” The girl said.

Kure complexion turned greenish after he saw the girls death.

“Yea. Let’s go.”

Kure put his arm around her shoulder and walked away. Oaki wheeled herself into the cafeteria. She looked in the middle of the stadium shaped room and saw food. Noah walked up and grabbed an apple and a banana place it in Oaki’s lap and wheeled her down to their room.

“You should eat something.” He said worriedly.

“I am not hungry.” She said a little annoyed.

Oaki hates being coddled. She hated being treated like a baby. And that’s how she felt Noah was treating her.

“You lost a lot of blood you need some food for energy and bananas to have potassium.” He told her.

Just then she grabbed the wheels of the chair.

“I can do it myself! And I already said… I’m not hungry!” She snapped at him.

“Okay… okay. I just was worried about you that’s all.”

She ignored him and continued to go to the room. She opened the door and went rolled over to the bathroom. She thought about how mean she just was to him.

“I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to snap. It’s just I don’t like being babied” oaki said a little ashamed.

“I get that. And I’m sorry if you felt that way. But this is a huge transition. I just started this school yesterday and I don’t know anyone. You’re the first person I meet… and I feel like I really connect with you.” He said looking down.

“I’m sorry I didn’t know… it’s just… I’m kinda a loner. I haven’t ever really had any friends in high school. I’m not good with social things…” oaki felt her words hit close to home, and her heart started to sink.

She started to feel really awkward. She turned away and rolled toward the table she looked inside the cabinet and found a trash-bag.

“Will this work if I want to take a shower?” She looked over and asked him.

“Yea… it should. But you have a torn ligament and hairline fractures in your leg so you really shouldn’t stand on your leg at all.” Noah said

“How long until it’s healed?” She asked.

“I have to go to the library and the medical floor to look at a book. I don’t know the answer right off the top of my head. But I would say definitely longer than a week.”

“So what am I soposto do just not shower until then?” He looked down unsure of how to answer.

She went to the dresser and grabbed clean pajamas. She rolled over to the interconnecting door and knocked.

“Ember… can you do me a favor?” Oaki said timidly.

Ember opened the door and looked down at oaki with a smile.

“Sure thing! What can I do for yeah?”

She looked down at her leg. And up at Ember.

“Well, I was kinda hoping you could help me shower just hold me up and stuff,” Oaki said embarrassed.

Asking for help was a completely new concept to oaki. She usually handled everything on her own.

“Sure,” Ember said joyfully.

Noah walked into the interjoined room and started to talk with the other boy. Oaki and ember went into the bathroom and closed the door oaki took off her top.

“Can you help me stand?” She felt pathetic.

Ember grabbed her and helped her stand up. She tied the bag sound Oaki’s leg and started the water. Ember started to take off her clothes to shower too. Since you need help standing and Elijah took all the hot water I’m gonna shower with you. Just then ember found a button on the wall and pushed it. A stalled shower bench appeared. Oaki sat down and washed herself off. Ember helped her stand up and then exits the shower. They both got dressed and left the bathroom. Ember went back to her room and Noah went back to their room.

“Thanks, ember! Goodnight” oaki said.

They all wished each other goodnight and went to bed. As they got into bed oaki grabbed a blanket and put it on the ground. And started to get out of the wheelchair onto the floor.

“Um… what are you doing?” Noah looked down puzzled.

“Well we don’t really know each other so I thought….”

Noah interrupted her.

“No here you take the bed.”

He got off the bed and went around to pick her up and placed her on the bed. As he went to lay on the ground Oaki said felt bad.

“Noah why don’t you come to lay in the bed. The ground is cold.” She had a nervous tone in her voice.

“You sure? Because I am okay with sleeping on the ground if it makes you uncomfortable to share a bed.” He said modestly.

Oaki thought for a second. She didn’t want him to sleep on the ground and she didn’t want him in the bed either. But she still decided…

“No, it’s okay.” She said

Noah climbed into bed next to her. And turned his back to her.

“Why do you think this all happened?” He said.

“I’m not sure. I don’t even understand what all happened still”

They laid next to each other awake for a while. Oaki fell asleep first. He reached over to put the covers over her and felt her cold feet. He was about to get up to look for socks when she turns over and laid on his chest. After an hour she turned back over and he laid with his back facing her and fell asleep.

The next morning Oaki woke up first. He had slept behind her with his arm over her stomach. She moved his hand and he just leaned over and placed his hand back again. Then Dao jumped up on the bed. BARK BARK BARK. She looked over at him. His tail was wagging. She felt his cold paws and put him under the blanket with her. Dao started licking Noah’s hand that was still placed over Oaki. He moved back and got quickly out of the bed.

“Sorry about that.” He said

To avoid things being awkward Oaki pretended to be asleep. She turned over and pretended to wake up for the first time.

“Good morning,” She said with a groggy but happy tone.

“Morning,” He said looking down still feeling embarrassed.

He went over the dresser just as Oaki was getting out of bed. She went to stand up but then started to fall over. Noah grabbed her and fell backward as she landed on top of him. Their faces just an inch apart from each other. They looked at each other unsure of what to do and say. Just then Elijah opened the door.

“Well um… good morning love birds.” He said chuckling.

Both of there faces red. Oaki scrambled to get off of him. She turned over to a sitting position and grabbed for her wheelchair. Elijah looked over at them…

“Well this seems like one of those awkward alone moments for you two so… bye,” He said chuckling as he walked out of the room and closed the door behind him.

Ember walked in with two outfits.

“Which one is cuter?” She asked Oaki.

“Um… the red one?” Ember looked please at this answer.

She walked back into her room and closed the door. Just then Oaki rolled over to the bathroom. And a large rumbling came from underground…

“Looks like today’s gonna be interesting.”

They got dressed right before the announcement over the intercom sounded.

“Good morning everyone breakfast in the stadium in twenty minutes. Be there or be square… haha. No, but seriously ladies and gentlemen we will be having our first community meeting, don’t be late!”

The quaking started again skating even worst then the last one.

“Yep today’s gonna be something alright,” oaki said.
