Cybernetic Array God - Chapter 8 Fire And Manager
Kaira couldn’t help but feel ‘Martin’ was slightly weird. He was covering his face with a strip of white cloth. It was probably taken from a ‘Newbie’ shirt but he said he had asthma (so, that must be the reason). He seemed to be taking everything pretty easily considering how she’d started crying the first time she came here and on her second time she was almost killed.
Cyrus had to stay there for a few more hours before he reappeared back in front of Maria. The woman’s head immediately hung down limply. Cyrus checked the time on her phone and saw that the time was roughly the same. She might’ve been right about how no time passes during a transfer to the beyond but he needed an exact measure.
‘How interesting’ Before he could get lost in his thoughts he decided to see if she was really dead. He grabbed her chin and moved her head around a few times but there was no response. He also checked her pulse and slapped her few times for good measure but it seemed like she was really dead.
‘I’ll figure this shit out later, I need to get out of here.’ He untied her and opened up his duffel bag and took out a canister. He looked for her bedroom and after finding it he dropped her body beside the bed and positioned it as if she was trying to crawl out.
“Okay, time to find a point of origin.” He looked around and found an ashtray filled with cigarette buds. He took it back inside and set it on her bedside table. He found a pack of cigarettes and lighter in her pocket.
“Oh, wait” He picked her back up and threw her in her bed. He sprayed some fuel on her body and set fire to the bed sheet beside the bedside table.
The fire slowly started to expand and as it came in contact with the fuel it blazed slightly. As much as he wanted to split open her head and see the effects of the LF Array, he couldn’t.
He picked up his duffel bag and went to the backyard, climbed over the fence and there it was. It was just a stretch of forest. It was a small forest and there were no cameras around it at all. He walked straight into the forest. He had a flashlight but he wasn’t going to use it.
He looked around and found the tree. There was an ‘R’ carved on its surface. He bent down and searched around its base and found a rope.
This rope was tied to a tree on the other end of the forest. All he had to do now was follow it till he got to the other end of the forest. He looked back and found that there was smoke coming out of the house and his eyes shone. He chuckled a bit when he thought that it would be on the news tomorrow.
He started following the brown rope. In the dead of night, the massive canopy resembled a beast’s jaw and he took steadily walked into it.
Cyrus woke up and looked at the time. It was eight-forty five AM. Sleeping still felt slightly foreign to him. Foreign wouldn’t be accurate the feeling was more nostalgic.
He got out of bed, took a quick shower, changed and went downstairs. He was reading a book on his phone ‘Genetics and Evolution’. He’d been slightly surprised when he saw that these mortals were able to figure evolution out but the cultivators back home probably figured it out but none of them wanted to share their knowledge. They’d much rather keep it hidden or something not that he was any different.
As for him he’d figured evolution out a long time ago and he’d even artificially selected an entirely new species and called them ‘Runaks’ but like most of his projects he got bored of them after their creation and left them to their own devices while he worked on pillaging some sect.
‘Hmmit was the Purple Monarch Mountain Sect, wasn’t it? That old fogey was so pissed when I blew up his mountain.’ He chuckled slightly at the thought of that ridiculously purple haired old man throwing a tantrum.
Cyrus sat down on the table as he greeted his parents. Stan was eating his pancakes and watching the local news.
“Here you go!” Saira put some pancakes on Cyrus’s plate and started cooking some more for herself and J.
“Yesterday night, just before three o’ clock a fire started in this Creston Drive. The firemen responded within minutes of the fire but the damage was already done. Twenty-five year old Maria A. Hunt was sleeping in her house and unfortunately, passed away leaving her family devastated. The police still haven’t
Cyrus didn’t have that much of a reaction to the news. It wasn’t the first time one his deeds had aired on TV and wasn’t going to be his last.
“Sheesh, first it’s the incident on Elson Ave. and now Creston Drive, this neighborhood seems to be getting more and more dangerous.” Said Stan in a matter-of-factly tone.
“Nothing happened in our street so what’s the problem?” Asked Cyrus.
“Creston Drive is right behind the forest. It takes ten minutes tops to get there on foot and Elson Ave. is just a block away,” said Stan.
“Oh” replied Cyrus absentmindedly. ‘seems like I should expand my scope of operation.’
After eating he went back to his room and started reading. After about three or four hours of reading, he stopped. He threw on a sky blue hoodie and black jeans. He opened his drawer and took out a black notebook. He opened it and on the very top was written M.H. They were Maria’s initials. The rest was written in his native language describing her routines, where she lived (a sketch of her house), her friends/acquaintances, the things of note on her social media etc.
He’d researched and studied her habits for more than a week before he even stepped into her house and now he was going to go through the entire process again. This one was slightly risky as he actually knew the prey and the prey knew him but he’d be able to pull it off. He took it as a challenge or a game.
His own phone buzzed and he looked at it.

He grabbed his bag and walked out
The manager of the hotel was drinking water and watching the news when his phone rang. He picked it up and saw the caller ID: Unknown
It was probably that guy. “Hello.”
“It’s me. It happened again.”
“I know, I’m watching the news.”
“What should we do?” asked the unknown man.
“Don’t worry, relax. If it was pulled up there then we just need to find it.”
“Okay, let’s say we find it, then what?”
“We get rid of it.”
“You and I both know it’s not going to be that easy.”
“It won’t matter as long as we prepare appropriately.” He rubbed the ring on his index finger.
“You know you always say that but this is something completely foreign.”
“I know and if we can’t contain it in there and it returns we’ll just nuke it.” The hotel manager said.
“And if even that doesn’t work, then what?”
“Then we run and we don’t stop, ever.”
