Cynical Romantics - Chapter 20 First Day
“Xiao Mei,” Song Sheng called out.
Qian Mei turned around to see Song Sheng walking out of the parking garage holding a brief case. He wore a dark green long coat, and a red scarf over the clothes she had already seen him wear that morning.
“Professor Song,” she acknowledged him, trying to conceal an on-coming wave of laughter.
Song Sheng raised a brow and said, “What is it? You look like you are about to laugh?” he asked apprehensively.
Qian Meigui laughed and said, “I’m sorry, but you look so much like a professor. Which is strange because you’re so young, yet you dress like an oldie.”
Song Sheng pushed his right cheek with his tongue in amusement, and smirked slightly before ruffling her hair in attack.
Qian Meigui begged for him to stop, as he locked one of his arms around her neck before using the other one to mess up her hair.
He let go and they both began walking to the main door.
“How was school today?” Song Sheng asked.
“A day full of reunions,” she said reflectively.
Song Sheng smiled lightly at her, “I’m glad to hear,” he said thoughtfully.
“How was your first day lecturing?” Qian Mei asked him curiously.
He smiled to himself, thinking of how smoothly his classes went. “I was nervous but then I composed myself, as I know this is something that I want to do.”
Qian Meigui smiled brightly at him, “I’m glad,” she began. “By the way, what is it that you teach?” she asked.
“I teach Business Administration. I am also part of the International faculty, so I support students from abroad,” Song Sheng responded.
Qian Meigui pursed her lips in high impression and regard for him.
As they walked into the house, they were greeted by the staff of the household and were invited to eat dinner, as it was almost 6 P.M.
Both Qian Meigui and Song Sheng went to their rooms to change, and met Song Jinyi and Song Jun at the table, as they had ate without Song Ren, as she would not be home until late in the evening.
—
Song Ren stayed after class to complete her daily studies in the library. She did not want to leave yet, when Su Feng sent her a message saying he was there to pick her up.
She sent him a message back expressing that she did not want to leave yet and he didn’t respond.
Thirty minutes later, Song Ren tied up her long hair into a bun using a pen, and continued to complete some practice sheets. She didn’t notice someone approached her until she glanced up with Su Feng carrying a take-out bag of the noodle place she liked and placed it on the table. She was so focused on her studies that he startled her.
“Shit Feng, you startled me.”
He grinned mischievously and said, “Sorry,” as he took out the container of noodles, chopsticks, and napkins and placed it on the table desk,
Song Ren watched as Su Feng placed the contents of food in front of her, and she did not realize she was hungry until he placed it in front of her.
“Eat,” he said.
Song Ren glanced up at him before she took the noodles and devoured them. After she was finished, she said to him, “Thank you.”
Song Ren proceeded to complete more of her practice sheets as she tried to concentrate, but it was difficult when Su Feng kept staring at her with an affectionate, piercing gaze. She would occasionally glance up, and he would not eye away, he would only grin.
Song Ren felt like breaking her pencil. She could not keep up with his advances. Ever since he found out why she broke up with him, and since they were officially engaged, he kept making it clear that he did not want to let her go, and took every opportunity to be with her.
It made her feel uneasy. She did not know whether he was telling the truth or not about him not cheating on her. But she already knew that she would wait until he gave her sufficient and clear evidence.
Though he made it hard for her to not forgive him already and pounce on him. But she promised herself that she would not be that easy. She will wait until the truth is revealed and then she would decide whether or not to give the marriage a chance. After all, he would be her husband for the rest of her liferegardless of the outcome.
“Why aren’t you studying?” she asked him while taking a break from her studies.
Su Feng looked down and said, “I actually came early because I wanted to give you an update on your case.”
Su Feng did not want to talk about the case, but he wanted to evade the topic of his studies. Truthfully, he had already completed a year’s worth of studies over the break. When Song Ren left him, he dedicated the days he had to his studies and to his company. At night he would drink, so at most he would get three hours of rest during the night.
He also admitted to the hospital for alcohol poisoning and fortunately he arrived on time for treatment. He now visits meetings to cope with his alcoholic behaviour, but his condition had gotten better since Song Ren told him that she broke up with him was due to a misunderstanding. He was able to hope againthe chance to be with her, made him feel happy and he was determined to make her, his.
Song Ren nodded attentively and Su Feng continued, “I’ve sent lawyers to represent you on your case, since you need to focus on your studies. They have sentenced both Yan Wei and her boyfriend to prison. Her boyfriend settled for a plea and was sentenced to a year, where as Yan Wei was sentenced to five for attempted murder.”
Song Ren thought for a moment. She felt pity for Yan Wei, but there was no ounce of sympathy left in her body.
Su Feng smiled as he watched Song Ren in deep thought. Annoyed, she asked, “What is it?”
Su Feng holding his grin said, “Nothing, you just look really hot when you put up your ‘unforgivable’ and ‘murderous’ face.”
Song Ren kicked Su Feng underneath their desk table ruthlessly, as he pretended to whimper in pain, but he did not look the slightest annoyed. It agitated Song Ren’s heart. This man knew how to sway her feelings. The way he did years ago when they were friends.
Su Feng would invite her to his personal library where no one was allowed to enter, except her. He did not tell her that it was his exclusive place, a vulnerable place that he had kept to himself for years. He would invite her to her library where they were left alone, and she did not meet anyone from the house, not even staff for months.
They would study for hours, silently, some of the time collaborating, and they kept their friendship a secret, as their families were rivals in the pharmaceutical industry. The reason why Su Feng was not interested in courting was because he was directed towards his company and studies, a trait Song Ren admired.
Song Ren remembered that her feelings for him began to creep on her during their senior year, when she was no longer able to concentrate on her studies. She had grown more conscious of him day by day, and she felt troubled.
Song Ren responded to her own feelings by skipping out on their studies. Because of her absence, Su Feng confronted her alone in an empty classroom one day after school. Su Feng had asked Song Ren why she avoided him, and she answered that it had become more difficult for her to study. Su Feng immediately understood the meaning behind what she had said as he suspected it for some time.
Instead of admitting that he understood, he pretended to be oblivious. He wanted to tease her for leaving him without speaking to himfor making a choice on her own without considering how he felt. He teased her until she confessed her feelings.
When she admitted that she liked him, he pinned her against the classroom wall and kissed her hard without hesitation. He then picked her up to wrap her legs around his waist and laid her gently on the teacher’s desk. They kissed passionately and touched each other eagerly, and impulsively made movements and gestures with each other’s bodies breathlessly, until they moaned. However they stopped themselves from going further as they wanted their first to be special.
They went to his room that afternoon, and they pleasured each other without going all the way. He asked her to be his girlfriend mid-orgasm, when his fingers were still inside her. She screamed out ‘yes.’ And they dated since.
They kept their relationship a secret for a month until they received news that Su Feng was engaged to another woman. He was furious, and then he proposed that Song Ren was a better-suited match and that they could bring their companies to work together.
Both the Song and Su Family hesitated, but they thought of how the collaboration could combine resources and they proposed that Su Feng should be engaged to Song Ren. They then openly dated.
When they broke up, it affected the company’s planned collaboration, but it did not affect the Su Family. When Song Ren became the heir of Song Group, the Su Family offered a deal that Chairman Song could not refuse, and that is why he agreed that his daughter would be future president.
Now, Song Ren is torn between her duty and desire. She wants this marriage because of what it could do for her future, but he made it more their feelings. The feelings she can’t avoid.
