Cynical Romantics - Chapter 9 Oh Sweetie You Are Mistaken
They all went to the parking garage where Su Feng parked. Song Ren sat in the passenger seat next to the driving seat. Qian Meigui sat on the opposite end of Song Sheng. As they passed Song Sheng’s building he told Su Feng, “You missed a turn.” Song Ren then said, “We are not dropping you off at your apartment. You are coming home with us, so I can watch you. We have to settle this when father comes home and I can’t have you run away again.”
Song Sheng then said coldly, “I wasn’t running away. I am older than you, you know?” Song Ren turned to see him, “and yet I’m always cleaning up after you,” she said as she stuck her tongue at him. Song Sheng furrowed his brows, and said “so childish.” Su Feng and Qian Meigui both chuckled at their bickering.
Su Feng dropped them off in front of their home. Qian Meigui and Song Sheng both exited the car first and went inside. “Xiao Ren, may I speak to you for a few moments?” Song Ren heard Su Feng say. She turned to listen as he stared at her with intensity. It made her feel annoyed, until she finally said, “So what is it?”
Su Feng gulped, seemingly nervous. “What you said at the airport, do you really mean it?” Song Ren looked at him and sighed, trying to find an answer. “Yes, I mean it. I will marry you,” she said flatly. Su Feng smiled genuinely. It reminded Song Ren about the times he had taken out to her on dates, smiling and holding her hand. He was beautiful. He had golden-blonde hair and dark blue eyes. His mother was from Sweden while his father was Chinese. He took after his Swedish mother. But at the moment her feelings for him were frozen, as she almost felt nothing.
Su Feng opened his car compartment and pulled out a black box. He opened it with a ring. For a second it made her heart stop, but she then remembered how he cheated on her. When he opened it was a teardrop shaped diamond. It was simple and elegant and it was neither large nor flashy, the way she liked it. “You bought me a ring?” asked Song Ren. Su Feng nodded. She then glanced at it before lifting her left hand toward him.
Su Feng seemed nervous as his hands were shaking a bit, but once he placed it, he could not stop staring at her hand. It seemed that he could not believe it was real. The girl he loved was engaged to him
Song Ren then said, “All right, thanks. I will give you a call some time,” as she began to exit the car. Su Feng was puzzled, “Wait, can I take you out tonight?” he asked. Song Ren smiled coldly and said, “Oh sweetie. You are mistaken. We may be engaged but doesn’t mean we have anything to do with each other. This is purely business. If you want to pull out of this, then you may do so. Oh and you’re also allowed to have a mistress since I can’t warm your bed. Good night,” she said as she closed the car door.
Su Feng felt aggrieved. He slammed the breaks and drove away.
Su Feng went to a bar alone. He drank heavily, feeling damaged. Several women approached him and flirted, but he kept saying, “Fuck off, you’re not her.” Su Feng then reflected over his rounds of bourbon and whiskey. He did not understand her.
He remembered the time they made intense love, and the next day he spent all afternoon and evening looking for the perfect engagement ring, as he wanted to make her, his. He then decided to request a custom order and spent his time at the shop until it closed. Then when he was about to go home, he received a text from her saying, “I never want to see you again.”
Su Feng called her and tried to see her, but she avoided him each time. He wanted to know what he did wrong. He couldn’t sleep for a month and got drunk every night. He then remembered that when he and Song Ren made love, they were both impulsive and drunk. Perhaps he raped herwas that why she was mad at him? Did he **** her? But he thought that Song Ren wanted him too. She cried out his name many times that night. Perhaps she regretted it.
Now that they were engaged, he hoped that there would be a chance to be with her, even if she refused him in every way. He was determined to win her heart again.
