Dark Lord Dumbledore - Volume 1 Chapter 70
It had been a week since Chad had the Australian Prime Minister and the entire Parliament assassinated, and things weren’t exactly going according to plan. He had expected the rest of those involved in running Australia to capitulate and reluctantly step aside as he claimed ownership of the country.
Looking back on all the sh*t that had happened since he declared war, it was sort of obvious now that he was being somewhat optimistic. Sure, most of the elected officials immediately resigned and took everything of value with them as they fled the country, but the average citizen went apesh*t.
Although every plane leaving Australia was full and the airlines had cashed in on the panic by increasing the number of flights out of the country, sixty percent of the population dug their heels in.
The police had lost control of public order on the third day when everyone saw how inept and spread thin they were when mobs formed and rioted in the streets, looting and destroying for no other reason than they could. Only a quarter of the people in the streets were there to protest Chadtopia and its dictator.
The military was deployed throughout the country to subdue the violent elements taking advantage of the situation in the major cities, and there seemed to be some hope of restoring order.
But when they officially used their newfound status as those now in charge to denounce him as a deluded terrorist and nothing more than a psychopath, the ninja elves once again went to work. Anyone in the Army, Navy or Air Force with the rank equivalency of O-4 and above were being hunted down systematically.
This, of course, only added to the public unrest and even saw more riots now explicitly formed to combat Chadtopia’s dictatorship and actions. By the time the week was up, every house-elf Chad owned was in Australia either kidnapping people protesting against his regime or killing off military officers trying to organise their soldiers into anything resembling unity.
Even Kreacher was out swinging his blade-staff and reaping lives like it was going out of fashion. The aged house-elf had a permanent creepy smile on his face and practically worshipped the ground Chad walked on after he ordered Kreacher to take charge of the assassinations of his enemies.
Only a single elf was left in London to help out Crystal or Sirius and to deliver any urgent messages to Chad. There was not a single ninja-elf in his employ that didn’t have their name stitched onto their proudly puffed out chest.
Of course, Chad needed to be careful about how his magical forces operated since exposure would see the Wizarding World come down on him like a tonne of bricks if he broke the Statute of Secrecy. Thankfully, it was the early nineties, and surveillance cameras were not that prevalent.
With such a significant move like killing the Prime Minister and the rest of the governing body of Australia, news of the unbelievable situation quickly leaked out to the rest of the world. Though his own media stations were blunting the damage as best they could.
Luckily, since Chad owned the ICW representative of Australia, the magical world was informed it was just the muggles fighting among themselves. The Peverell name had caused an eyebrow or two to be raised but little else.
The Governer-General had immediately informed Britain of the situation, a massive oversight on Chad’s part, and there had been calls to send reinforcements to help bring back normalcy to the country.
Unfortunately, Australia was on the other side of the world, and any meaningful amount of troops needed to make a difference would be hard to transport there quickly or efficiently. Logistics were the main contributor to how fast, far or long an army could be mobilised.
They did, however, immediately send a delegation made up of officials and elites soldiers to pave the way for further reinforcements, but Chad had killed them out of necessity. As soon as they touched down on the east coast, he had made contact by calling the building they set up as base camp.
Understandably, the first thing out of their mouths was to cease all hostilities and turn himself in. They never had any intention of dealing with King Peverell as anything other than a terrorist. Australia was, after all, a part of the United Kingdom’s Commonwealth.
They were not going to just hand over a country to a complete unknown because he used force, even if he was the victim in this situation. They were there to install another government to reestablish order and take care of anything threatening it.
Since Chad was that threat, he took offence at their stance on the matter, especially when they thought he would just turn himself in. He had been responsible for the political assassinations of hundreds of people, they would make sure he never saw the light of day again if he was captured alive.
Since there could be no compromise between Chadtopia and Britain, then that meant he would now be facing a drawn-out war. Which was a pity, since he needed to return to school in a couple of days. He couldn’t draw attention to himself by having the Boy-Who-Lived going MIA.
Thankfully, with Dumbledore gone, Chad would no longer be under such close scrutiny. Snape had already informed him that Dumbledore had ‘ordered’ him to keep an eye on Potter and report weekly on anything Potter related. This meant he could now send and receive messages via elf regularly without fear of being found out.
Another reason why Chad was not exactly worried about outside forces invading Australia or adding their armies to the declining standing force, was because the country was well isolated and easily defended by magical teleporting ninjas.
Whether by sea or air, the muggles needed to transport their soldiers across vast distances of water to get to their destination. And as Chad had already tested, altering Quidditch bludgers into heat-seeking explosive missiles worked rather well, even against the speed of fighter jets. Well, when released on en masse.
Although tweaking the speed of the seemingly sentient balls of death would see them easily catch a commercial plane, the jets were still to fast for them.
Thankfully, after he had bought and torn a few apart to replicate the enchantments, they were not exactly hard to make, even with the adjusted settings to fly faster and explode on contact. Voldemort’s knowledge helped immensely.
All the elves had to do was teleport a reasonable distance in front of the jet’s flight path and release a heap of them for good measure. Any ship or aircraft bringing supplies or troops into Australian waters would be going the way of the Titanic, straight to the bottom of the sea.
Since most of Chad’s facilities were underground, there was simply nothing for his enemies to target. And this was if they ever made it past the many house-elves armed with death bludgers.
His earlier thoughts of trying to take over Australia quickly had fallen apart. Now he just had to defend his borders while letting those that wanted to leave pass through his perimeter. Any that stayed would either fall into two categories.
1) Lawful citizens accepting his rule and prospering.
2) Those that broke the law or opposed him and were killed or enslaved.
All he had to do was not get exposed for using magic or house-elves, and the country would be his in under a month. Already nearly half of Western Australia was under his control since thousands of house-elves could work tirelessly to kidnap any ringleaders as soon as they were alone.
Legilimency, compulsions or torture would expose any other high-value targets, and the cycle would continue. A person was smart, people were dumb. But even the dumbest group of people would not knowingly put themselves in danger of certain death.
As the godfather had taught Chad when he was a child, waking up covered in blood with a severed head in your bed would demoralise even the most stubborn of people. The human head of your leader should be twice as effective as a horse’s head.
But all this effort and needless death had put Chad off taking direct control of another country. After he subjugated Australia, he would not replicate the experience and would just subvert the leadership already in place. Much like what he had done to Madagascar.
Still, his ego had demanded retaliation when Australia tried to coerce him into yielding his title of King. But such an extreme reaction had Chad reexamining himself from magical stupidity only to find his defences still as effective as usual. Magic didn’t play any part in his overreaction.
Maybe it was the hormones of his childish body?
It couldn’t possibly have been because he is a selfish arsehole that felt disrespected and wanted to teach the government a lesson. It also definitely wasn’t because in his past life he had been subjected to unreasonable taxation and still held a grudge…
Either way, it was too late to cry over spilt milk, and he would just have to use this as a learning experience. Conquering the world would not be as simple as he had imagined, though it was still going to be pretty easy if he was smart about it.
With his instructions for the steady takeover of Australia in place, it left him free to tidy up a loose end that may still bring trouble for Crystal and himself. The land that made up Chadtopia had been purchased by Elfin Inc on behalf of Chad Peverell.
This link was probably the only thing that could be used to trace back to his origins as Crystal had brought him around with her and was registered as his adopted mother.
Though an eleven-year-old child with the same name as King Peverell was not going to be blamed for the war, it wasn’t farfetched to make the assumption that it was his father causing all the problems.
After wiping every record of Crystal, his or Elfin Inc’s existence in Australia, Chad could only hope that he got everything. But it was a near certainty the connection had most likely already been looked into after Chadtopia was formed.
Buying up that amount of land, even if magic was used to grease the wheels, would have set off a few alarms, especially when their hotel chain catered for the wealthy and they had sprung up practically out of nowhere.
Legally, Crystal and Elfin Inc would be fine since they could merely claim to be the broker and that they had had no connection to Chadtopia. But that would not fly with those out for revenge or didn’t care about the law.
Chad would have to up her security and edit the books accordingly.
