Darling, Don’t Run Away! - Chapter 284
Oklahoma,
“Are you sure this is the right place?” Sabrina looked at Liam before she looks back at the building in front of her right now. It looks like an abandoned building and the surrounding..a bit creepy.
Liam then stares on his phone screen and nods his head. “Yup. This is the place.” He put his phone back and place his arm around Sabrina’s waist. “If you don’t want to go with me, then you should wait inside the car,” he said gently.
Hoping that she would wait, but before he wants to take a step forward, Sabrina pulls his sleeve and look at his husband with determination. “No way I’ll let my husband go alone,” she said and walked at Liam’s side.
Since they both left Mike with Sabrina’s parents, they both didn’t have many worries about coming here. A few days ago, Liam got a new lead regarding a person who knows what happens five years ago to Dr. Fang and his wife.
He decides to find that man and ask him himself what he is witnessing that day. If this person really exists then, he can be the only witness that can support this case. They really hope this case will solve, and everyone gets justice.
It’s been five years after all. If they were reopening back the old case, it would be much work and to drag the culprit to prison? Whoa..its gonna be huge news. Before they find the hard evidence that still been working out by Sky, they also need to find witnesses that still alive.
A few minutes later, they both arrive on the fifth floor of an old apartment, which smells so bad, and it looks gloom. Just like what Sabrina imagine before, it’s like going into a haunted house.
Knock! Knock!
Liam taps his knuckles on the door while waiting patiently with Sabrina at the outside of the house.
“Who is it?” someone roared from inside the house, which makes Sabrina look at Liam. It is a bit worrying if the one inside is actually a criminal, and they’re not having any back up right now.
“Excuse me, Sir. Is this Jacob’s residence? I’m looking for Mr. Jacob.” Liam said once the door is opened by someone who looks displeased with them.
“Who’re you? Jacob isn’t here. He’s long dead.” the man said, and he scratches his beard a little. It looks like he hasn’t showered for days. The smell of his body could make Sabrina puke. However, she tries her hardest to hold it back.
“I’m sorry, Mister. My name is Liam, Liam Wayne. I’m looking for Mr. Jacob to help me with something, and I thought of..um, paying him some money for info. But, since he’s dead…I guess..” Liam fishing the guy using the word ‘money.’ He believes that words could make the man tell the truth.
Sabrina makes a move and ready to leave with Liam behind her, but just a few step from the door, the man suddenly call them back. “Wait!… I think…I can help you…if the paying is still..um, on the term.”
Both Sabrina and Liam secretly smile. They were right. Sometimes, money does matter to buy some info. It always likes that in the business world too. Turning back to the man, Liam pulls the string a little.
“But, we’re looking for Mr. Jacob. I’m afraid that if not Mr. Jacob, then no one knows what I’m looking for.”
The man looks a bit anxious. He then stutteringly said, “But…but Jacob shares everything with me. I think I know what’re you looking for.”
“Hmm..then, your name, sir?”
“I…I…I am Conrad.” the man said, but he averts his eyes, which makes it evident that he lied to them.
“Okay, Mr. Conrad..did you know what happens to Mr. Jacob five years ago? About the L.A accident?”
The man looks a bit pale, and he immediately looks around the corner of the building like he was afraid of something. That makes Liam and Sabrina frowned. Their guessing is that this guy knows about it or witnessing something that gruesome or something?
“Mr. Conrad??” Liam calls his name, and the man instantly looks at him. He signals both of them to enter his house, and they need to do it quietly.
Sabrina hesitates as she pulls Liam’s sleeve and shakes her head a little. What if…this is a trap? They didn’t bring any backup today, and Liam doesn’t have any weapon too.
Both of them don’t know how to fight. This is like entering a tiger den.
Knowing that Sabrina’s worry, Liam hold her hand and caress it softly. He mouthed at her, ‘It’s okay..let’s go in first.’ even though Sabrina is not convinced by Liam’s word, she still follow him inside.
The inside of the house looks awfully messy with the food can on the floor and a few other things which look like rotten food. The table and even the couch is already broken.
Don’t even say how its smell. It’s horrible, and Sabrina could feel that she’ll be sick if she stays more than ten more minutes. She clenches on Liam’s arm, hoping that he will make it short before she really threw up in here.
“Please, have a seat. Make yourself at home.” the man said while kicking his used clothes on the floor to make way for the guest.
“Thank you, but we’ll just stand.” Liam rejects him politely. And he goes straight to the point. “So, did you know what happen back then?”
“How much? How much would you offer me if I give some information?” the man start his deal, and Liam pulls out his checkbook from his pocket and a pen.
“Depends on your info. If it’s useful to me then…I guess I could give you more than a hundred thousand?”
The man eyes shining brightly, and he looks like he just being bewitched. “Then..what do you want to know exactly?” he asked while his eyes still fixed on the checkbook that Liam was holding.
“Mm..let’s start from what happened that day? And what did Mr. Jacob see.”
The man then sits down on the couch armrest while his head hangs down a little. He suddenly looks a bit terrified.
“I..I went to LA to gamble that day, I just thought of going there and make some money.” he starts to tell them. But the word he uses is ‘I’ and not ‘he.’
“When I pass down the road, I saw a helicopter in the middle of the desert. I thought those people might run out some gas, and I make a stop at that time. Just thinking about lending them some help.” Liam frowned a little. He thought the helicopter is supposed to be in on the move without making a stop rest.
“When I arrive, there’s no one there.. but I heard some people chattering behind the rock, and I decide to go there and check it out. But I was so stupid. I shouldn’t have gone there. They were…., slaughtering people.”
Sabrina closes her eyes with the image lying around her mind. How painful..they were killed first before the accident happens?
“And then?” Liam listens with very carefully.
“I ran back to my car and hid it behind the rock, which is just a few hundred meters from the helicopter. I then saw them…dragged the body and put them back inside the helicopter before they cut something under the main engine. The pilot was threatened to fly the helicopter by those men who slaughter the couple..” he then starts pulling his hair a bit.
“I could’ve saved them back then…but I’m too afraid of calling a cop. I just….stand there and watch them being slaughtered..I…I even saw how they…they remove their organ…hic! Hic!” he starts crying, and Sabrina went to Liam before hiding her face at the back of her husband. This information is too much for her to hear it.
They were killed, and their body part was taken by those people! How cruel can a person be??
“Did you perhaps remember that person’s face? Or maybe have you heard they mentioning someone’s name?” Liam tries to ask the man of some information about the one who’s behind this crazy murder.
Shakes his head, the man wipe his tears a bit. “No..I couldn’t hear anything. But they were professional. I heard..they’ve been looking for me since that day because they found my tire track at the scene. I didn’t even dare to walk out of my house since then.”
Liam sighed before he nods his head. “Would you like to be a witness? I can guarantee your safety, and you’ll be placed under top-notch security around you.”
The man immediately shakes his head. “No! No! Please…they gonna find me and kill me like how they kill them! I don’t want to die! Just give me your money, and I’ll vanish from here right this instant!”
Both Liam and Sabrina were speechless. Finally, Liam agrees to give him the money he promises. More than one hundred thousand dollars for him to have a new life.
“What should we do now?” Sabrina asks when they get inside their car.
Sighing, Liam starts the engine and reverse his car from the parking lot. “We’ll let him go. I’ve got the recording, and I’ll send someone to keep an eye on him. Don’t worry.”
