Darling, Don’t Run Away! - Chapter 300
A week later,
“Hi, how are you, Brian?” Luna put her handbag on the seat before she slides in and looks at the man sitting in front of her. She meets with Brian today, as she got the calls from him this morning.
“Not so good, I think.” Brian still replies with a smile on his face before he sips his drink. He then turns his head to looks at the road, which is quite busy with cars and people even though it already starts snowing outside. Winter already began.
“I’m sorry..” Luna took his hand and rubbed it gently. “I should have known it back then..I’m terribly sor-”
“It’s not your fault Luna. You’ve been a good mother to my daughter. You’ve been a perfect companion to me too. I’m so glad that I met you that day.” Brian looks at her again and pats on top of her hands.
“Lily is a good daughter. I’m sure it won’t be long until she releases from prison.”
Chuckles, Brian shakes his head. “Well, it’s not a real prison. It just serves as a playroom for her. It’s only for five months before she starts to serve the CIA. But until then, no one was allowed to visit her. Including me.” he hangs his head down, looking at the table blankly.
“If only I spent more time with her..maybe she’ll open up more to me. I was so busy with my work that I didn’t even know what my daughter does behind me. I think I’ve failed as a father, Luna. No wonder, even Lisa left me.”
“Brian..don’t blame yourself. It’s not your fault too. This is out of our control. No one ever knows what happens to Lisa back then and why she decides to take those drugs.” Luna tries to give him a little courage. She knew Brian must be missing Lily as much as she is. Maybe more than her.
Brian squeezes his eyes while shaking his head. He precisely knows what happen back then, and what did he do to her? He didn’t listen to her explanation and force her that night. That’s resulting in Lily’s gene, which is a bit special. He is the cause of this to happen. “I don’t know what to think about myself, Luna. I’m such a douche. If only I could turn time back, I would-”
“Hey…as far as I know you, you’re the cooler guy who always cheers my day: a romantic type and a caring person. Well, to be honest, if only Raymond didn’t find me back then, I’m sure I will already be your wife by now. Cheer up, okay? I remember a saying, ‘If you want a rainbow, then you have to deal with the rain.’ I think you’ll find your rainbow soon. Don’t give up. Lily never want you to be sad like this. About what happened in the past, haven’t you learned your lesson? Just don’t repeat it in the future.”
Smiling, Brian wipes the corner of his eyes a little. “Ah~ thank god I still have you who always stand at my side. Thanks, Luna.”
“Mm..don’t thanked me. That’s what friends do.”
“Anyway, enough with me. I heard you’ll move to Beaufort next month? Is it true?” Brian looks at Luna’s bright face. She looks more beautiful these days. ‘Maybe she already found her own rainbow.’
“Where did you hear it? I’m sure I didn’t tell anyone.” Luna asked. Just who was the one telling this news to Brian?
Chuckles, Brian said, “I guess your husband didn’t like me that much. So he just gives me a little heads up so that I won’t find you again like this..”
Blushed, Luna sighs. “Tch! That guy..” she pressed her lips and continue, “Don’t worry about Raymond. He was just a little bit jealous of you. But, if you ever need me, you just have to call me. I’ll be there for you. As a friend. And you are also welcome to our home.”
“You too. If you ever need anything, you know I will always be there for you. You’ll always be my daughter’s mama. And I will always be your friend.”
Chime!
Luna, look at her phone. It a text from an unknown number, and she ignores it before she shoves back her cellphone to her handbag.
“Maybe it’s your husband,” Brian said as he notices Luna look at her phone earlier. He also needs to go somewhere right now.
“Nah… Just a random text,” Luna reply and watch Brian standing up. “You’re going?”
Nodded, Brian reply, “Yeah…I have somewhere I need to go. I’m sorry, I can’t send you home.”
“Oh, no no..that’s not it. I don’t mind. Anyway, Brian, cheer up, okay?” Luna extended her hand to Brian, and he replies with a smile before he hugs her.
“Thank you, Luna. I’ll see you again.” They both part their ways, and Luna took her handbag from the seat and left the cafe after Brian.
As she walks down the road, another text was sent to her phone. Scrunching, Luna took out her phone and opened the message. It was a video posted by an unknown number. As she watches it, she starts trembling in fear.
Because she thought everything around her is now pretty much safe, she already releases Rose and Dania from their duty. And right now, both of them are on vacation, and she was alone.
Because Alex is staying with them, Luna asks Raymond to free the bodyguards as she doesn’t want Alex to feel uncomfortable. He agrees to left it with only two bodyguards around Alex and her. But now she regrets it, it was the wrong moves!
She tries to call Raymond, but it was directed to voicemail. A few seconds later, she remembers that Raymond will have his year-end meeting with the whole group of Wayne’s director. Which means he’ll be home late than usual.
Took a deep breath, Luna hails a taxi from the roadside and give the address to the driver. She couldn’t calm down after watching those videos as she could cry at any moment from now.
“Are you okay, ma’am?” the taxi driver asked her and flinching, Luna shakingly nods her head.
“Yes..please drive faster sir. Don’t forget to send the letter I ask you to after this.”
…
Luna looks around her, there’s no single soul around that area that she could spot. It’s so silent and scary. All she could see is an abandoned warehouse and the empty land far away from the main road.
“Come on, Luna..you have to be brave.” She tries to courage up while she is still shaking inside her.
She slips her hand into her handbag and holds a gun, which was Raymond’s. Lucky that Raymond’s insisting her to bring the weapon when she was out today. At least, she got a little back up if everything goes south.
Trudge to the warehouse, Luna’s heart can’t stop thumping loudly. Her face turns a little pale than before.
Open the door, the blood smell surged on her nose, which makes her almost throw up. She covers her nose with her palm and looks at the side of the warehouse. There’s a cow’s body that bloated and covered with maggots.
As she was focusing on the cow, someone was pointing his gun muzzle right at her head. “You’re coming. I thought you would ignore me.”
The whispering voice at her ears makes Luna flinch and squeeze her eyes for a seconds before she tremblingly turns around her body. The gun on her hands falls to the ground. The smell of…urgh…
“What do you want, James?” She asked, and the old man suddenly laughs to her face, which makes Luna close her eyes and hold her breath. She wonders just how many days that James never takes a bath.
“Good question, Luna.” He pushes his muzzle gun to Luna’s head, making Luna walks backward, “Let’s start with you. Why don’t you tell me who you are?”
Luna lifts up her chin and looks at the man. He seems so disheveled. Nothing like the great James she’s knows from Wayne’s clan. He’s more like…a homeless with mental illness.
“James..you should know that you should stop now while you can. No need to use violence as you did to your wife. There’s still some time for you to end this madness.” Luna tries to slow talk with him.
“Heh..” he smirked and pulled out his another gun from his pocket before he pointed at the right corner.
Luna’s eyes follow James’s hand, and when she saw Alex was tied up on the wooden barrel, looking so devastated, her eyes start to fill up with tears. “N-no…James..please..that’s a child..”
Giggling, James said again with excitement in his eyes. “Yes, yes…that’s a child. Guess what? Whose child is that??”
Luna gasped. She then tremblingly want to shake her head, but James was ready to pull his trigger. “Come on..tell me..whose child is that?”
“James…Don’t commit another-”
“Say it!!!”
Luna flinches, and her tears fall down. She was scared and hoping that Raymond will hurry and find her now!
“It’s…it’s…”
Bang! James shoots the wooden barrel, and Luna covers her ears. Panting and almost faint. She felt like her heart nearly stop with the thought that bullet might go through Alex’s body.
“One more time and I kill the child if you didn’t say it!” he threatened her, and without wanting to put Alex’s life in danger, Luna said while crying…
“He’s mine. He’s my child…please…don’t kill him.” she begs and kneels down before James smack her head, and she loses consciousness.
