Daughters of the Elite - Chapter 115
After days of waiting, tests, and checking the progression of his body, Song Sheng was discharged from the hospital.
It was nightfall when Yang Rei helped him settle into the mansion. From the past few days at the hospital, he proved to be showing quick progress as he was able to walk and move around on his own without struggling. The only thing he couldn’t do was overexert his body.
The twins settled his stuff in the guest room of the main floor. They took some of Song Sheng’s things from his old room, moving them downstairs as they didn’t want him to take the stairs.
After settling his stuff, Song Ren came into his bedroom with Su Feng and a bottle of champagne. Su Feng shook Song Sheng’s hand as he was glad that his soon-to-be brother-in-law was doing well. They exchanged some words as Song Ren passed around glasses of the bubbling liquid. Song Sheng leaned against the headboard as the others sat around him on the bed.
As the men spoke, Song Ren thought of something curiously. “Hey, Sheng,” she called out, interrupting. Song Sheng turned to face her. “Who the f.u.c.k was the one who ratted out Mei? I’ve been trying to figure it out,” she asked.
“I’m afraid if I say it, you’ll commit a crime yourself, and I am in the brink of taking care of it,” he responded.
Song Ren shook her head appalled. “Me? Commit a crime. Nope. I won’t, now tell me,” she demanded. Song Sheng sighed. “Yu Qingge sent Lin Anni and other members of her Mei’s family emails with pictures along with her real name.” Song Ren tried to calm her temper by closing her eyes, taking deep breaths. But she couldn’t resist clenching her fingers and grinding her teeth together.
Su Feng then rose, kneeling in front of her, placing his hands over hers. Song Ren seemed to be fuming with anger. For weeks she had been sleeping restlessly, trying to figure out who caused this to harm her family. Although Qian Meigui had always been in danger, it wasn’t right for anyone to expose her. It put her and Song Sheng in harm’s way.
Su Feng coaxed her by soothing his thumb over her hands, whispering something in her ears. He was with her during her restless nights, trying to play detective. Song Ren felt helpless that she couldn’t solve anything. She then smiled and rose. “I will return tomorrow,” Song Ren said, leaving with Su Feng. She then paused at the threshold, glancing towards the two of them, smirking before she disappeared entirely.
Qian Meigui rolled her eyes as she rose to turn the lights off in the room to go to bed. “Can you cut my hair?” Song Sheng asked. Qian Meigui frowned. Song Sheng chuckled, “at least a trim,” he said. Qian Meigui then smiled as she approached him, taking his hands. He rose with their hands locked together. She then guided him towards the bathroom.
As they walked in Song Sheng began to remove his clothes. Qian Meigui glanced away. “What are you doing!?” she asked him. As she peaked a glance, she noticed he was grinning at her playfully. “I need to take a bath,” he said. Qian Meigui then nodded, “All right.”
Song Sheng discarded the rest of his clothing as Qian Meigui turned on the faucet, warming up the water. Moments later, Song Sheng placed himself in the bath, dipping his had back, feeling relaxed. Song Sheng began to wash with soap when Qian Meigui removed her sandals, moving the skirt of her sundress up, walking in the tub and sitting at the edge of it behind him. She then helped him wash using a cloth to scrub into his body.
Afterwards, she washed his hair, thoroughly soaking his long locks. His wet hair ended at the nape of his neck; he looked handsome as his golden-brown eyes turned to gaze at her. Qian Meigui felt momentarily lost, dazed, but she shook her head from any lingering, dangerous thoughts.
She lept out of the tub, drying her feet on the rug, as she grabbed a pair of scissors and a comb. When she returned, she went back to the edge of the tub, combing through Song Sheng’s clean black hair. Using the scissors, she began to trim his hair evenly into a beautiful shape. Afterwards, she dried his hair using a towel, massaging his head gently.
When she finished, Song Sheng rose from the tub with the small towel over his shoulders. With his clean hair cut, he looked like the best version of himself. She did not cut off most of his hair; she only trimmed it. His hair was full and volumized, spilling over his eyes, but not long enough to curl around his neck. Song Sheng smiled as he glanced at his reflection at the mirror, turning towards her. He grabbed her face planting a deep kiss before he left to put on some clothes.
Qian Meigui took Song Sheng to bed once he placed on a fresh pair of clothes. When they dove under the covers, Qian Meigui embraced his body gently. She quickly fell asleep after a long day at the hospital when Song Sheng flicked on the lamp snapping a photo of her sleeping. Afterwards, he logged into his social media accounts, though, he barely used them. Song Sheng had gained thousands of followers due to his film and modelling projects. He uploaded the photo of Qian Meigui with the caption. “To my love: We had to hide for so long, and now we’re free.” He didn’t put any context, allowing the netizens to fill in the gaps themselves.
Within an hour, the media went into an uproar. Most people were shocked at the fact. Comments rolled in:
“Aren’t they siblings?”
“No, they’re not. The Song family took care of her for years.”
“Ah! I’m so happy for Sheng. I don’t know their story, but it seems like it was chaotic. After the Qian deaths, she had to hide under witness protection. Song Sheng had to pretend to be her brother while being in love with her all along!”
Song Sheng shut off his phone as he gazed at Qian Meigui who had her wavy hair sprawled across the bed. Carefully, he moved closer to her as she snuggled in warmly.
Now that they were together, there were many things they could look forward to, one step at a time.
