Daughters of the Elite - Chapter 77
Song Ren was in the middle of a conference call when Yang Minzhe walked in, placing a note on her table and leaving without another word. Her secretary knew that he could not disrupt any corporate meetings unless it were an emergency. Song Ren glanced at the note while speaking to executives from overseas. It said in capital letters: SU GUIREN IS HERE.
Song Ren crumpled the piece of paper in her hand, as she maintained her composure while exchanging dialogue with the executives, attentively.
After the meeting was over, Song Ren exhaled deeply, rubbing her temples by her desk. After swivelling around her chair, she reluctantly decided to page Yang Minzhe to let Su Guiren in.
Su Guiren walked in with the arrogance and haughtiness of him.
“Hello, Dr. Song,” he said to her, mockingly.
Song Ren smiled grimly, “I’m not a doctor yet,” she responded. “Why are you here?”
“Hm, right. I came to check out Song Corporation,” he said as he gazed around the room with his arms crossed behind his back, observing every corner.
“Why?” Song Ren questioned, annoyed.
“I think I should buy it,” he said to her, with a cunning, wicked smile.
Song Ren’s curled her fingers into fists. “If you have come here to insult or threaten me, then it’s best if you leave right now before I ruin your life,” she responded with an eery calmness, folding her arms together.
Su Guiren chuckled. He swiftly approached her, his expression changing from playfulness to sudden insincerity. “I have not come to insult you,” he began, “on the contrary, I came to make you an offer.”
Song Ren took a step back from him. “Whatever you have to offer, I refuse,” she said bluntly.
“I will let Su Feng stay with the company if you marry me instead. I know you are the type of woman to marry anyone, so long it benefits you,” Su Guiren finished.
Song Ren spat at Su Guiren’s foot. “Now that was indeed an insult,” she began. “I used to be that type of woman, but that’s because I was too stubborn to realize the possibility of finding someone compatible for me. So do not offer me something so low to accept,” she said with a silverware smile.
Su Guiren looked as if he was boiling with rage. He then straightened his collar, coolly walking away without another word, slamming the door behind him.
Song Ren leaned against her desk, exhaling deeply. She was not sure how she going to get out of this situation, not while the Su’s were after Su Feng, and her father would disapprove of their engagement.
Song Ren glanced at her engagement ring, the teardrop ring glimmering like sparkles, creating a rainbow against the peering sunlight from the window. She clutched her hand near her heart, hoping that she could be with Su Feng.
—
Qian Meigui had to meet with Su Feng privately, avoiding Song Ren and Song Rui; therefore, they settled to meet at Song Sheng’s apartment.
Qian Meigui let Su Feng into the apartment where they went to the dining space to work on the legal proceedings he’s planning against Su Corporation.
As they are working over the case, Qian Meigui asked him, “Why can’t we tell Ren again?” Su Feng then paused from his work. He picked up a marker, highlighting some parts of what he read. Without glancing up at her, he said, “Ren thinks it’s a risk against me if we go after Sun Group. If I ruin my father and half-brother, I could burn in the end too.”
Qian Meigui listened to him. She then placed a hand to her chin, thinking about the entire situation. Based on what they’ve been looking at, there wasn’t much. But then the idea hit her.
“Su Feng,” she called out. Su Feng paused and looked up at her. “Hm?” he asked.
“I need you to do another audit for your company’s data and compare it to previous records. There may be some fraudulent activity that is subtle, but enough to prosecute your family when you combine them. But you can only do it if you’re willing.”
Su Feng thought momentarily before nodding, “all right,” he said.
Qian Meigui knew it was hard for him, but Su Feng worked so hard in the medicinal field that it would have been for nothing if his family revoked his position now. Moreover, his relationship with Song Ren will never be approved.
While they were reading and typing away silently, Song Sheng arrived home from work. He came with takeout food in hand, knowing that he would have guests that night.
Qian Meigui felt like greeting him enthusiastically, but she had to hold herself back. Even though Su Feng was going to be a part of the family soon, he has yet to know that she isn’t Song Sheng’s blood sister. But even if he were to know about their actual relations, no one could know about their relationship behind closed doors.
Song Sheng approached the table, shaking Su Feng’s hand. He then came to ruffle Qian Meigui’s hair before sitting on the seat next to her.
He handed the meals out before peacefully beginning to devour his. Su Feng stood up, excusing himself to use the restroom. When he left, Qian Meigui began to eat when Song Sheng leaned over, close to her ear, “Are you staying over tonight?” he asked in a deep, husky tone. Qian Meigui shivered, trembling with excitement, but she glanced around the room. It was dangerous whenever they were alone, and not the type of danger that would harm anyone, but the type that was heated, thrilling, and l.u.s.tful.
Qian Meigui turned to face him, but her eyes couldn’t look into his, that was dangerous too. “Not tonight,” she breathed. She could feel him watching her with a piercing gaze, but she had to try hard to prevent herself from caving in. “I have to go home tonight,” she finished. Song Sheng nodded, understanding. He then dropped his hand underneath the table, brushing her fingers with his, teasing her.
Su Feng returned from the restroom. He sat down and grabbed hold of his meal. They then all ate together.
After the meal was over, Song Sheng cleaned up after them. He sat down next to her again and Qian Meigui felt warm. He could have been doing anything else, but instead, he sat with them, helping. Song Sheng used to be the former heir of Song Pharmaceuticals; therefore, it was no surprise that he knew what to look for.
During the session, Song Sheng would occasionally find something and pass it to her, asking what she thought of his findings. She would then respond to him.
Su Feng wondered why Song Sheng had volunteered to help. When he glanced up at Song Sheng and Qian Meigui, it surprised him how close they were. Despite his closeness with Su Yuying, it paled in comparison to Song Sheng and his sister. They both spoke to each other with smiles, and they teased playfully; it puzzled him. Song Sheng never behaved like that around Song Ren from what he’d remember. But then perhaps, he was the type to dote on Qian Meigui because she was more delicate and charming. So, Su Feng dismissed any of the curiosity. But as the night went on, he wondered why he felt like he was interrupting something?
Qian Meigui had to ask Song Sheng to get them some snacks because he was not behaving appropriately. He returned, and afterwards, Song Sheng went to the living room to work on his projects.
As the night came, Su Feng went home. Soon after, Qian Meigui had to leave too. Song Sheng escorted her to the door. But just as she was about to leave, he pinned her against the door, planting a swift, deep kiss on her lips. It startled her, but she soon opened her mouth, welcoming him. After a few minutes, their lips parted, but he kept his hands on her face, appreciating the sight of her.
He then bent down, whispering in her ear, “You’re torturing me,” he said to her. Qian Meigui’s lips curled. She knew what he meant. “Soon,” she whispered against his neck, promising him. Truthfully, she wanted him badly, but she was too stressed and too tired from work.
He then embraced her, cradling her head against his chest, “Take your time. I will wait for you,” he said. Qian Meigui smiled, reaching up to peck him on the lips, before leaving quickly. It surprised Song Sheng that it left him dazed. His lips then curled into a smile.
