Daughters of the Elite - Chapter 89
In the morning, Song Sheng already went. But he left Qian Meigui a message, stating he had gone to work.
All over the media, the news about Song Sheng succeeding the company spread like wildfire. He was the handsome icon that now has full control of one of the oldest and successful Entertainment companies.
His face was splattered all over magazines, articles, and online sources. Those who did not know him from his films projects knew him now. He was now the CEO of Song Entertainment.
Song Sheng went to work where the staff offered him their condolences and congratulating him on his new promotion at the same time. He went to the chairman’s office alone, placing his hands in his pocket, glancing around the room. He didn’t want to change anything. The books and magazines kept in the same place. The furniture was the same. The only thing Song Sheng added was a picture frame.
The picture frame held a picture of Song Sheng and Song Ren standing tall next to each other. He chuckled because their faces were tight and reserved. Just below them were the twins who decided to pose silly faces, while Qian Meigui stood in the middle of the four of them. They all framed her.
Her face delicate and innocent and it was one of the few pictures Qian Meigui let them take of her in it. But he liked it because it captured his siblings too, the ones he cared for the most.
Song Sheng worked for hours when he heard the door knock. It was Yu Qingge, one of his best employees in the industry. “Come in,” he said.
Yu Qingge walked in, closing the door behind her. She wore a pencil, skirt and blouse; her light hair curled tightly. She shyly walked up to him.
Song Sheng was impatient and wondered what she wanted. But he had to be respectful towards the people that worked for him.
She bit her lip nervously, while Song Sheng’s face wasn’t friendly. “Can I help you?” he asked her.
“Uhmmm,” she began. “I just want to congratulate you on your new role,” she said.
Yu Qingge had been working with Song Sheng for months, as his female co-star, and within the promoting industry. Yu Qingge remembered that she initially did not want to join Song Entertainment because she felt like she would receive better offers elsewhere.
But Song Sheng convinced her to join him, and she’s gained more fame and success since joining. But now, since he became the CEO unexpectedly, she felt like now was her chance to take him before he gains more attention from other women.
“Thank you,” he said deeply.
Yu Qingge stepped closer. “We have to go to another interview,” she began. “Now that you’re the CEO, many journalists are anxious to see you again.”
Song Sheng rubbed the space between his eyebrows. “All right,” he said. Yu Qingge kept her cool, despite being excited. “I’ll schedule it then,” she said before she started to walk out of the room. At the same time, the woman who’s been around him walked into the room.
She wore her long brown hair loose; her face was round but delicate. Yu Qingge gritted her teeth. She still hasn’t figured out who she was. Were they dating? Was their relationship some secret? She kept her cool as she passed the woman. She then went to type Song Sheng’s name online, but there were no pictures of her in them. She then decided to make some calls.
Qian Meigui decided to stop by with some lunch to see how Song Sheng was transitioning in his new position when the actress she had seen him with at the premiere walked out of the office.
Qian Meigui felt no ways about it and proceeded to emerge in the room. The room was twice as large as his old office. Song Sheng was seated in front of a desk. He then rose as soon as he saw her, his expression softening.
Qian Meigui settled the bags she carried on his desk, as Song Sheng came around and greeted her with a kiss on her lips. It knocked the breath from her.
“I need to visit you more often,” she said breathlessly. Song Sheng smirked.
“How are you keeping up with the business?” she asked him.
“Busy,” he said, rubbing his temples. Qian Meigui could tell that he felt stressed.
He then said, “Enough of me. How is the case going on for Su Feng’s behalf?” Qian Meigui took a seat in front of him and began to take out the contents of their food. “I have finished,” she began, “Now I am waiting for Su Feng to do his thing.”
Song Sheng smiled. “How are you keeping up with your classes?” he continued.
“I have exams soon,” she paused as she ate. “But I’m confident that I will do well.”
Song Sheng began to eat his noodles when he said, “I am confident in you too.”
Qian Meigui flushed. She looked out the window as it began to rain, the water softly tapping on the glass. She realized she loved him so much that it hurt, but she still couldn’t help but worry for the two of them. So she kept to herself.
—
Song Ren was casually walking down the streets of the city to do some light shopping when she accidentally bumped into someone in one of the shops. Song Ren dropped her bags, and the woman helped her pick them up. It was that pretty girl that she met from before, Xue Guangli.
Xue Guangli helped her pick up her bags, “I’m sorry,” she began. Song Ren chucked a smile at her. “No need to apologize,” she said. Xue Guangli observed her from head to toe, realizing who she was. “It’s nice to see you, president Ren,” she said.
“Likewise,” Song Ren smiled. Xue Guangli appeared to be trouble, so Song Ren asked her, “Are you doing some shopping?” Xue Guangli shook her head. “My family owns the shop,” she responded.
Song Ren was impressed. The boutique was beautiful and simple yet elegant. Song Ren gazed around the shop. “Can you help me pick something out?” Song Ren asked her. Xue Guangli nodded.
Xue Guangli picked out lovely dresses based on Song Ren’s body type. She made Song Ren try on clothes on the spot and adjusted them to compliment her height and curves. As she worked, Song Ren asked, “Can I ask how you know Long Huojin? I can’t help but be curious.” Xue Guangli glanced up at her as if she was afraid to speak.
“Don’t worry,” Song Ren began reassuringly. “I am not his fan,” she said.
Xue Guangli chuckled with relief. “He’s my childhood friend,” she said softly. But she looked as if she was upset about something as she fidgeted with the measuring tape in her hand.
“I see,” Song Ren said. Afterwards, Xue Guangli continued to work on her clothing. She asked Song Ren, “Where are you planning to wear this dress?” she asked.
“Hopefully to my engagement party,” Song Ren responded casually. But she regretted it immediately as she meant that it was supposed to be for Su Feng. Xue Guangli appeared to be sad, but Xue Guangli smiled grimly. “So you’re indeed marrying Long Huojin?” she asked Song Ren. Song Ren felt terrible; she cursed her big mouth.
Song Ren stopped Xue Guangli from measuring by grabbing her hand gently. Xue Guangli glanced up at her, meeting her eyes. “I am engaged to Long Huojin. But he’s not the one I want.”
Xue Guangli’s eyes widened. Judging from her expression, Song Ren continued. “My father wants me to marry him, but I love someone else,” she admitted.
Xue Guangli kept looking at her eye-wide, her lips parted not knowing how to respond. Song Ren approached the mirror. She looked at herself appreciatively. She then turned to Xue Guangli and said, “You’re very talented.”
Xue Guangli smiled, “You’re very pretty,” she blurted out. Song Ren chuckled, stepping towards her, grabbing her hands with hers. “Thank you. So are you, Xue Guangli.”
Afterwards, Song Ren went to the front of the store to purchase the items that Xue Guangli adjusted for her. She then passed her business card. “If you ever need a doctor or a friend. Call me,” she winked as she left the shop.
Xue Guangli watched as the beauty left the shop. She never expected that Long Huojin’s fiancée was so nice. But she didn’t love him…
Xue Guangli didn’t know what to think of it.
