Daughters of the Elite - Chapter 91
Yu Qingge chuckled to herself, snickering coldly. She reached for her purse on the passenger seat of her car, to take out her phone, zooming in, snapping photos of them. She got a better view of the two of them, passionately kissing. Afterwards, Song Sheng released her, and they both drove off.
Yu Qingge remained rooted in her seat for another hour. What was this? She couldn’t understand it. Weren’t they related? She kept contemplating the entire situation, not sure what to make of it. Eventually, she drove home, entering the house, logging into her computer immediately. Now that she had her name, she web searched ‘Song Mei.’ There was not much information about her, but she dug deeper and found an article about Song Ren who addressed the public after succeeding Song Pharmaceuticals.
There were pictures of Song Ren and in the midst of them, there were photos of ‘Song Mei.’ In the caption, it states that Song Mei is Song Ren’s sister and legal representative. So that woman is indeed Song Sheng’s sister? Yu Qingge leaned back in her chair and thought momentarily.
Was their relationship some taboo? She felt confused, but she decided to research again. She found pictures of Song Jinyi and Song Jun at a gaming convention. Yu Qingge then printed all the photos she found and compared them. She glanced at each of their faces, which closely resembled. Each member of the family had a head of jet-black hair, and their eyes were hazel, like a mix of bronze and gold, except for ‘Song Mei.’
She did not look like any of them. She had chestnut brown hair and almond eyes. Even the shape of her face wasn’t anything similar to them. The twins of the family were indeed identical, but even they mirrored their older siblings, Song Sheng and Song Ren.
Yu Qingge saved all the photos, including the ones she took today in her hard drive. She also printed extra pictures of Song Sheng and Qian Meigui.
—
It had been three days since Chairman Song Hai’s death.
Qian Meigui dressed up in black. She then went to Song Sheng’s apartment to see if he had finished getting ready. When she walked in, she found him sitting on the bed, looking out, dazed. Qian Meigui smiled grimly, knowing that he was still very much grieving. Chairman Song was his mentor more than anyone else.
Qian Meigui then approached him slowly, her heels clicking against the floorboards. She squatted in front of him, grasping his hand in hers. He hung his head low; his eyes showed signs of restlessness. His eyes did not shine; they were dim.
Qian Meigui lifted one of her hand’s to land on one of his cheeks. Song Sheng’s face remained stern and vacant. She then rose to find one of his suit jackets. She took a freshly dry-cleaned black jacket, and she started to approach him again.
Song Sheng already dressed in his shirt and trousers; so, she signalled him to stretch his arms so that she can place his jacket on him. Qian Meigui then walked to one of his dressers, pulling out a pair of sunglasses. She went back to him, reluctantly placing them over his stark, beautiful eyes. He then granted her an appreciative smile. Afterwards, she took his hands and guided him out of the apartment.
He held her hand tightly as they hopped into the car. Qian Meigui drove him to the viewing where they met the rest of the family. After the celebration of life, they went to the funeral.
Song Ren and the others were there dressed up as well. Only half of the family of Song Hai showed up, most of them distant relatives or friends and colleagues. As Qian Meigui glanced around the open space to capture each face, she noticed Yu Qingge was staring at her, sinisterly.
Qian Meigui was puzzled, why was Yu Qingge looking at her as if she was snickering at her? She figured that she was here to pay respects to her former boss, but the fact that she looked at her persistently made her feel uncomfortable.
Qian Meigui decided to focus on Song Sheng. His face was firm and cold as he focused on the service. But every time she glanced up, Yu Qingge was already looking at her. She felt the urge to hold Song Sheng’s hand, but she instead, clenched her fingers into fists.
After the funeral was over, everyone was on their way to the main house for some light snacks and reunions. Qian Meigui and Song Sheng walked behind everyone. Song Sheng kept his hand in his pocket, when he took it out, brushing his fingers against Qian Meigui’s as they kept it to their sides. Qian Meigui desperately wanted to hold them, but with the people around, she couldn’t. Especially since Yu Qingge kept glancing behind her, watching them like a hawk.
Qian Meigui’s heart raced nervously. Does she know something? Why does she keep watching them?
They arrived at the main house when friends came to express their condolences. Qian Meigui stood next to Song Sheng the entire time, but she decided to eat something as she felt like she hasn’t eaten all day. She also grabbed a plate for Song Sheng.
From the snack table, she watched as Yu Qingge approached Song Sheng with a silverware smile. She spoke to him shortly before she turned and walked towards her.
“My condolences to you and your family,” she said as she blocked Qian Meigui from going back to Song Sheng. Qian Meigui paused. “Thank you,” she managed to spew.
Yu Qingge offered her a fake smile. She gently grabbed Qian Meigui’s forearm as her hands held the plates of food. She then leaned into her ear. “I know you’re with him,” she said. Qian Meigui began to tremble. Her heart nearly stopped. She knitted her brows, meeting Yu Qingge’s playful stare as she stepped away from her. Qian Meigui pretended that she didn’t know what she was talking about.
Yu Qingge then passed her a closed envelope, placing it in her pocket without saying another word. She then smiled at Qian Meigui once before she turned her heel to leave the house. Once she was out of sight, Qian Meigui exhaled deeply. It felt as if she couldn’t breathe when she was speaking to her. But she couldn’t help but still feel uneasy.
With the plates in hand, she approached Song Sheng, and they began to eat. After the service was over, everyone went home. Qian Meigui drove them back to his apartment.
She decided to stay over, hopefully unnoticed. Song Rui is the only one that knows their relationship, but even he wasn’t entirely for it, and she wasn’t sure why.
Song Sheng hopped into the shower on his own. Qian Meigui dressed for bed when she decided to reach for the envelope in her pocket. She heard the shower rain against the granite flooring when she opened the envelope.
Her heart began to pound furiously, her hands shook. As she pulled out what was in the envelope, it was a printed photo. Her eyes darted all over the picture, her heart skipping beats. They were caught.
