Daughters of the Elite - Chapter 96
The entire team went to Su Feng’s house for a celebration, chanting Qian Meigui’s name. Song Sheng lifted Qian Meigui and placed her over his shoulders, whistling with excitement. To them, it looked like a brother cheering on his sister for her accomplishments, but Qian Meigui was inwardly very happy.
He kept parading around the house with her as if she was some special prize. Afterwards, Song Sheng let her down when others arrived at the house, including Yang Minzhe, the twins, and some friends from Sun Group that supported Su Feng’s claim. The house was beginning to crowd around, and the atmosphere turned lively.
While everyone was talking to each other at the house, laughing and exchanging jokes, Song Ren and Su Feng ordered food, and they opened their large liquor cabinet, passing drinks along to everyone.
As the afternoon went on, Su Feng received a call from his father.
“Wen Zhaohui contacted me,” his father said by way of greeting.
Su Feng did not respond.
“Since this a public investigation, it will hit the news about what Su Guiren has done.”
Su Feng continued to listen.
Su Liang sighed over the phone. “You will take over the company again as the CEO,” he said.
Su Feng nearly dropped his phone. “What?” he asked, but his father had already ended the call.
Song Ren then approached him from behind, “What’s wrong?” she asked with a grim expression as Su Feng, who appeared to be dazed. “I’m…I’m…” he was at a loss for words. Song Ren grew worried, “spit it out,” she said.
“My father promoted me to CEO,” he said, quite not believing it himself. Song Ren’s eyes widened. They stared at each other, momentarily stunned, afraid that if they touched something would go wrong. But Song Ren wasn’t sure if she moved first or him, but they gravitated towards each other like magnets.
Su Feng lifted Song Ren in his arms as she bent down to kiss him on the lips in front of everyone. Some people gaped in surprise; others smiled, Yang Minzhe whistled.
In front of everyone else, besides their families, they never confirmed their relationship. Song Ren was Long Huojin’s fiancée publicly for a quite some time, and no one knew about her previous engagement with Su Feng. But everyone was aware of Song Ren’s “cheating,” scandal, but no one particularly cared.
Su Feng let her down after passionately kissing her in front of everyone. Song Ren smiled up at him.
Su Feng began to tap his wine glass to get everyone’s attention.
The chatter lowered, and people slowly snapped their heads towards them. Su Feng wrapped his arm around Song Ren’s waist. “Thank you guys for coming at such short notice.”
Yang Minzhe was cheering from the floor. Everyone else was either sitting on the couches, standing, or sitting on the floor. Qian Meigui was seated next to Song Sheng on the sofa as he had his arm rested on the headboard of the couch, not touching her. It looked like he was stretching his arm out, but in reality, he wanted an excuse to be close to her without people questioning it. They both paid attention to Su Feng and Song Ren.
Su Feng looked at every face, but when he caught Qian Meigui’s eye, he raised his glass at her. Qian Meigui smiled.
When he lowered his glass, he announced, “Song Ren and I are engaged. We want to invite everyone here to join us for our wedding,” he said. Song Ren flushed, burying her head in his chest. Everyone in the house clapped and cheered them on, more whistling in the background.
Song Jinyi stood up, popping open a bottle of champagne, “Let’s celebrate!” she said before clumsily pouring champagne in Song Jun’s glass, accidentally spilling some on him. Qian Meigui had to turn away, covering herself from laughing at them. But as she turned to her side, Song Sheng was looking at her intensely, staring incessantly.
She felt compelled to meet his gaze. Qian Meigui rested her head on the upper cushions of the couch, staring back at him. His long eyelashes fluttered caressed his cheeks as he looked at her deeply. Qian Meigui glanced around the room, but everyone else was engrossed in their conversations, drunk. She then turned back to face him in their staring contest.
“Are you happy?” he asked her. Qian Meigui thought momentarily. For years she questioned her happiness. It was hard to say. She missed her parents to this day. They left a hole in her heart that did not entirely heal, but the pain felt numb. If it weren’t for Song Sheng, she would have hesitated, but she already knew the answer. “Yes,” she said with a smile. It’s true, she was happy.
Song Sheng smiled back, revealing his one-sided dimple. His gaze deepened again. Qian Meigui then mouthed to him, without a sound, ‘I love you.’ It stunned him, as his cheeks tinted red. He gritted his teeth, turning away from her. They then heard laughing from the floor, where Song Jinyi rested. “Haha!! You’re so red Sheng. Are you that drunk?” she asked, slurring her words. Song Jun chuckled next to her, teasing him. Qian Meigui joined in on the laughter.
But Song Sheng shot her an ‘I’ll deal with you later,’ look which made her blush too. Soon after, Song Ren and Su Feng hopped on the empty seats next to Song Sheng and Qian Meigui.
Seeing them, Song Jinyi asked, “So when’s the wedding?”
Song Ren and Su Feng glanced at each other, smiling. “We want to get married after I graduate from school,” she said. Song Ren has yet to complete her studies, but she was almost finished; she only had a few months left.
It made sense why they wanted to wait until graduation. Song Ren would want to celebrate the rest of their lives together after she finished what she needed to do for the company.
“Sheng,” Song Ren called out suddenly. Song Sheng snapped his head towards them. Song Ren patted Su Feng’s hand. “We were wondering. Well, I was wondering if you would like to be my best man?” he asked him. Song Sheng was surprised. Su Feng continued, “If it weren’t for what you did for Song Ren, we wouldn’t have ended up together. And I want to thank you,” he said. Song Sheng’s usually reserved face softened. He nodded, “It would be my honour,” he said.
Song Ren smiled widely. “And Mei,” she began. Qian Meigui glanced up at her. “You have to be my maid of honour. Who else could it be?” she said, laughing, tearing up. Qian Meigui’s lips parted before she pounced on Song Ren, hugging her. “Oh, yes. It will be fun!” she said. Qian Meigui began to tear up too, and the girls wiped each other’s tears.
After they finished crying happy tears, Su Feng rose with Song Ren and left to get some privacy. Song Jinyi and Song Jun fell asleep on the floor, and the people around them were either leaving or the house or going out for a smoke.
Song Sheng glanced around the room as he leaned close to her. “Do you know what they say about the best man and maid of honour?” he asked. Qian Meigui shivered; of course, she knew.
She turned to face him, puffing up her cheeks.
“Let’s go,” he said sincerely. Qian Meigui shivered again, gooseflesh bumping on her arms; she couldn’t resist his charm.
