Dawn Traveler - Chapter 5
Two Lives (Part 2)
Yeon Woo has been in the dream world for two years.
He could control how long he could stay in the dream world to some extent.
If he wanted to stay in the dream world, he needed to strongly desire it.
Conversely, if he wanted to go to back to the other world, he just needed to fall asleep.
While he felt that there was a difference between his bodies to a certain extent, he still was able to go back and forth freely.
He stayed in this world for such a long time, because it was way too interesting.
When Rendall and Riga him showed him the family business, even though it was scary he could experience an adventure.
In the real world on the other hand, he had to do homework in kindergarten.
For the next 10 years or so he would have to attend school, and even if he enjoyed his school days it wasn’t exciting.
If he considered his life in this world filled with life and death scenarios, modern life was pretty boring.
Although the situations in this life filled him with fear and terror, he felt more alive than ever before.
Combining the time spent in both reality and the dream world, his mental age was growing more.
He had courage, only could just helplessly watch as they traveled to bigger tombs.
Monsters throwing large rocks was as familiar to him as eating rice every day.
An insanely large axe came flying past him after he ate his meal, then he decided to go back to sleep.
“Kkeoeok. I ate well, now I’m going to take time to digest.”
Rendall and Riga, their skills were so advanced that they wouldn’t abandon him in a moment of crisis, but things don’t always end that well.
Yeon Woo felt that its easy for people around here to die in vain.
Vaccination didn’t exist in this world.
Friends and family can also be caught and slaughtered by monsters.
Even those that sincerely mourned greatly, the next day would have to stand up and live with new hope.
But they also that an active and positive attitude about life, and also were accustomed to accept the death.
“Sweetheart, shall we go the market? ”
Yeon Woo was already fully understanding the language of the area.
Of course when it came to the complex and meaningful language of magic, he did not understand Herz fully, and the high-level language nobles spoke never came up in daily conversations.
“Screams hahaha.”
Yeon Woo spread good will everywhere as laughed.
He pretends not to understand the language perfectly.
Yeon Woo was being taken by Riga who smiled widely at her baby.
“You are a good child, Jess. I say you’re definitely going to be a good person!”
Yeon Woo was carried in the arms of Riga as they left for the market.
He was mainly kept in his mothers bosom because of the danger outside of the house, and when on a fast horse or carriage.
In this world, he was called by the name of Jess.
Jess de la Belle was known as the historical name of a legendary adventurer.
In the words of his father Rendall, robbers actually talked about Jess Belle as the favorite open secret in their industry.
They proudly dug up the treasure gained inside the adventurers tomb.
“Anyway, there is something really strange that he meant a great deal.”
He arrived at the market with his mother, and could see that it wasn’t busy.
The market had a lot of goods that were bought and sold, including the magical items.
“Four kinds of apples? ”
“Various types of mushrooms here are very delicious to eat in soup. ”
The skin of the merchant was green, they were a species that was very active in the Marca continent.
They had an excellent physical fitness to the point that they could walk all day and not feel tired.
And that their sense of smell was so acute that they had the ability to detect the monsters from afar and often chose professions dealing with trade.
“Oh, those earrings are so beautiful? ”
“I can see you have a good eye for things. This precious jewelry is dwarven made and came from beyond the populated Dereun mountains. ”
“Really?”
“I have only set up shop in this city for just ten years. Take your pick to believe it or not. ”
Riga had called attention to the ornaments.
Jess had read his mind.
[Kehehe. This cheap thing I picked up will sell well. Humans are so easy to deceive.]
Even if Jess wanted to he couldn’t send a warning to Riga.
Girls always desired jewelry, even if the cost was high.
He believed that it wasn’t much of a problem. It was like when Yeon Woo received a robot toy in the real world!
“I have to watch the world unable to do what I want. Even if it is useless ….”
Between the real world and this world, mind reading skills weren’t well understood.
Riga bought the jewelry, meat, vegetables, and even elven grown fruit.
Jess’s house was well established from the financial side of things.
Stacked in their secret basement, were shiny gold coins!
There was no tax collection, even though the funds were comparable to upper-class nobles with vast plantations that are very successful.
“This is because of strict social rules. And also, well, considering how many nobles die and become buried in royal lands each year on all of the continents.”
The robbing business was located even in disaster areas, such as droughts and floods.
Rather, in many cases, floods will sweep through into entrances of newly built tombs.
But the risks are extreme when fighting strong monsters or having your identity discovered and being sued by the family of the noble!
Jess and Riga sipped sweet fruit juice they bought as they toured the market.
Merchants, and residents all looked to the east direction.
“Today begins the hunt of the tyrant.”
“Tsk. Which animal has started their killing spree…..”
“We ought to be careful not to be eaten.”
Far beyond the walls of the city there was large black dot flying.
The lord of the sky, the Wyvern!
Even the highest level of Wizard in the kingdom would find it nearly impossible to hunt a Wyvern high in the sky.
They had skin harder than steel, great speed, and a ferocious temper.
Jess looked at the Wyvern from the arms of Riga.
“He looks really scary and strong. I wish I could go defeat something like that?”
At that moment Jess accidentally locked eyes with the Wyvern.
Even though there was a vast distance between them, they saw each other quite clearly.
“I wonder what you think about, when you see me?”
Jess read the Wyvern’s thoughts out of curiosity.
[A plump delicious-looking young child.]
Here he had to read enough.
But he was still curious so he continued.
[I want to put him in my mouth and chew him whole. Nom nom nom …….]
Jess, who was still soft and small was the most perfect and delicious snack for the monsters of this world.
—————————————————————————————
In the real world Yeon Woo was seven years old.
Between 6-years-old and 7-years-old there is a big difference in a persons life.
Yeon Woo had read the thoughts of a lot of older elementary school students, and found that they missed their time in kindergarten.
“I need to enjoy these moments completely, so that I don’t end up regretting things later.”
While Yeon Woo was playing, he came to a decision about his future.
“It could be said that I should play games well, and without regret.”
He frequently used many words that weren’t child-like.
He had seen a variety of adult perspectives on many things, without restrictions.
Also, Yeon Woo had seen things from a baby’s perspective and way of living.
In his mind, Jess already had nine years of life experience.
Kindergarten was quite different from that in terms of thinking.
Kindergartners was just plainly about playing around.
“Hey, Yeon Woo. Let’s play a game of high towers.”
“I don’t want to ……. you’re better at it than me.”
“How about the loser gives the winner something of theirs?”
“I knew it had to be something, would you bet your robot toy on the first game of towers?”
“Yes!”
And after a while…..
“In the end I win!”
Yeon Woo was superior to the other children, and ended up winning.
The poor miserable kindergarten children!
The more time he spent in the other world, the greater the difference in his life.
Yeon Woo had the chance to have double the life experiences of an ordinary human.
————————————————————–
Yeon Woo, and Jess.
Yeon Woo was 5-years-old in the real world, and Jess was 3-years-old in the dream world.
But for all those years there he only wallowed on the floor in the house, playing next to the fireplace.
Those 3 years he shuffled around, he had time to learn the native language.
His pronunciation was perfect and he already understood the language completely.
Jess lived in the metropolitan city of Terre which had high, thick walls.
At night the monsters came in hordes flocking to the city, so battles with the soldiers also happened sometimes.
Jess was watching a battle taking place in the distance through the windows of the house.
Thanks to the location of his home nestled in the high hills, he was able to watch the battle on the walls.
The scene as the tide of battle turned towards the legion of monsters in the late night was spectacular.
“Today’s monsters are unusually crowded.”
As usual the battle with the monsters was reaching its end.
The bad thing was that the monsters were intelligent enough to generally suffer only minor damage before retreating.
Flocks of giant monsters in the kingdom were periodically killed by the army.
However, because of the fertility of the monsters, rural villages were like breadbaskets that always took a lot of the damage.
Archers continued to shoot arrows at the hordes.
Jess had seen that the children from other houses were watching through their windows as well.
The hope of the world were the children, who in the future would become soldiers, mercenaries and wizards.
“The monsters pushing through seem nearly endless. There must be a reason for so many monsters to band together.”
There were many conflicts with monsters in the area.
Demon races were forced to attack the city when many lost their lives because of hunting or due to losing their habitats.
“There really are too many.”
Jess’s eyes couldn’t see well at night, but it didn’t seem to be just conjecture.
Monsters climbed over by attaching sticky hands and feet to the walls.
A group of monsters from a far away forest were working well together.
However, a large vibration from the ground suddenly began ringing.
“What the hell was that?”
The distance to the walls was quite far and it was a very dark night, but the archers had lights around them so they could see the ground.
Something unknown came into Jess’s sight.
It was higher than the city walls.
A monsters body made of steel.
“It is a …… robot.”
Jess was by the window with his mouth hanging open.
The steel monster was slaying the monsters that moved in groups.
Several dozen monsters died every time it swung its enormous swords.
Woowoowoo!
That there was no comforting feeling to see the great big monster jumping around.
A crest of a black eagle was burned into the steel monster, it was also similar in appearance to that of the magical sword Rendall used.
Herz hadn’t been sleeping, walked to the window.
“Ah, a Majanggi.”
“Majanggi?”
“There is a crew inside of it, I think it was called because we gathered too many monsters this time, and they wanted to avoid the consumption of soldiers and equipment in this battle.”
Herz then told the story of Majanggi.
In the continent that gave birth to humans was an absolute powerhouse, the Gras Empire and 350 years ago they came to power through the use of magical weapons.
Even with just one person on board using the power of Mana to do battle, even if the enemy had a hundred people gather together it wasn’t relevant to a Majanggi.
“You’re still young so you don’t know that magic isn’t used only to fight. You can have an eagle’s eye view of things far away.”
Jess was familiar with the ‘eye of the eagle’ spell.
It was a basic spell, but when you move to a panoramic view it was easy to notice the approach of monsters and bandits, or soldiers so it was a useful magic.
With the eagle eye spell Herz chanted the magic and walked to Jess.
Afterwords, the appearance of the Majanggi looked far brighter and sharper to Jess’s eyes.
The tangled patterns of two empires could be seen, even in the engraved armor of the Majanggi.
“Its impossible for ordinary monsters to harm a Majanggi.”
The city of Terre belonged to the eastern territory of the Gras empire.
Nobody could guess just how many Majanggi the Gras Empire currently held, it was one a total of 1,400 military secrets.
Nobles lost their Majanggi in power struggles, intrigue, and for various other reason such as bribery or being stolen and destroyed in war.
Sometimes members of the royal family would be buried with a Majaggi they owned, to watch over their tomb.
His parents had hoped that when they dug out a tomb that there wouldn’t be a Majanggi buried inside waiting for them.
Majanggi were developed and distributed for quite some time now, and other kingdoms often chose to disassemble Majanggi they obtained to learn how to make similar devices.
However, among men of the other kingdoms they could not match the performance and efficiency of the Empire that first developed the Majanggi.
Watching the activity of the Majanggi, Jess couldn’t keep his mouth closed.
“I want it.”
Herz was thinking the same thing.
[I want to have it. I want to have it. I want to have it.]
