Death’s Door - Chapter 193
When will this pain end?
His curse prevented him from dying, keeping him alive for eternity. But that did nothing to alleviate the pain.
In fact, the pain just kept piling up one on top of another, suffocating him within it.
Navek shook his head in frustration.
Navek: ‘I wonder how he deals with this kind of agony.’
There was virtually no purpose left in Navek’s life. He had seen, been, and done practically everything. But at the same time, he lost everything he ever cared about.
Yet, his body would not stop breathing. His heart would not stop beating.
Cursed to walk on for eternity as everyone around him faded away into nothingness. Oh, how much he wished he could join them.
DL: “What’s up, gloomy?”
Navek: “Hey master”
DL: “Care for a drink?”
Dark Lord was holding a wine bottle and wine glasses.
Navek: “Sure, why not?”
After that, both got completely wasted. From what it looked like, they really needed it.
Navek: “I don’t know how you do it, man”
DL: “What do you mean?”
Navek: “Keep going even with the weight of your curse”
DL: “Why do you think we are drinking now? To forget”
Navek: “It’s not like we can die from that anyways, right?”
DL: “Aside from gods and Knight of Night who can end us, we are pretty much doomed to live”
Navek: “You are right; though… our curses don’t make us immune to alcohol, huh….Why don’t we just keep drinking forever?”
DL: “I would love to, but the last time I ended up sleeping in a coffin. I am lucky I did not get buried. Though, I did end up scaring Song and Elian”
Navek (drunk): “Now that’s funny…*Wobbling* Hey look! It’s the grouchy elf! Grouchy elf! How have you been?”
Lukalis Kreschen quickly walked toward them, by the time they noticed, she was already within hearing distance.
Lukalis: “I told you many times to not call me that, you immortal moron. Anyways…Runfar!”
DL (drunk as well): “Yeah?”
Lukalis: “Tell me, who you think of….in a romantic way?!”
Her face was flushed red and obviously asking this was not easy, but she knew that due to his contract, he will give her a straightforward answer.
DL: “Romantic, huh….none really comes to mind….”
Then his mind ended remembering a certain hero in shining armor.
DL: “Leona?”
Lukalis: “Aaah!”
Lukalis’s expression was that of clear horror.
Her face lost all color, replaced by a face of defeat.
Lukalis: “I see….”
She sobbed a little and ran away.
DL: “What was that about?”
Navek: “And she called me a moron”
After a little while, they started to sober up.
Navek: “By the way, can you tell me about this Mrakus guy, he is an angel like Morphus, right? Are you sure he is behind everything?”
DL: “Well, I thought so at first….some things don’t make sense. Whenever he does something, there is always seemed to be some hidden purpose behind it. Crystal dagger to steal blessings and kill deities and then this log book to locate and track down the gods that are nearby…he clearly wants me to have a way of combating gods or more like grooming me to be a threat to them. But it is almost like he is following someone else’s orders….Oh, no…”
Navek: “Runfar?”
DL: “Mrakus is not the mastermind, he is just a pawn!”
Navek: “Isn’t that good?”
DL: “No. This is horrible. We have no idea who this mastermind is. By having Mrakus pose as the carrier of his word, he has made himself unknown and unreachable to us. Even if Mrakus gets himself killed, the mastermind can find another pawn and keep this game going”
Navek: “Any idea who this mastermind is?”
DL: “The only thing for certain is that he is a bigger fiend than I”
Navek: “Now that sounds terrifying.”
