Decisions (Inner Desires Series) - Chapter 11
A few weeks had passed since the fight in the park and nothing was casted on the news, which meant either the council wiped the human’s memories, or the humans stayed quiet. No one was sure of what had completely happened. Some of them were thinking that maybe those few humans admitted themselves to a mental institution. Olivia, Shane, Jacob, Alex, Demon, Surriey, Tessmere, Raska, Dixie, Darren and Nicole, were all in the back yard of Olivia’s house having a small victory barbeque. They knew it wasn’t a complete victory, but it was still a victory. They defeated Alcatraz, but at a great cost.
“Has the council said anything about our parents?” Olivia asked Raska.
“I told them; I would rip their heads off if they did so. Both your birth parents are now dead, they would be stupid to wipe the minds of two loving humans who haven’t done any harm,” Raska growled, “Haven’t heard anything since I made that threat.”
“Plus, there’s only four of you now. Edcur, Megael, Tessmere and you,” Demon added.
“They wanted me to ask Shane, but I knew he would say no because of the rules,” Tessmere growled.
“Like hell I’d join their ranks. Megael is a moron,” Shane hissed.
“Exactly what I told them,” Tessmere laughed.
“Easy boys, I’m not here to wipe anyone’s minds,” Megael said, defensively.
“Then what are you doing here?” Olivia snarled, “Shane already said no!”
“Easy. I am here on business, but not that kind.”
“Speak and then leave, you’re not welcome here,” Darren growled, not thrilled about the intrusion.
“You can’t speak to me that way human,” Megael started.
“He may be human, but he’s our father and you have no right to speak to him that way!” Jacob snapped, “Now say your peace and leave!”
“Did any of you catch or find the humans that were present that night?” he asked.
“No, why?” Alex asked.
“Because, there was no one but us there,” he growled, “Your brother used his powers to conjure them and make it look like humans were watching. It was a trap to lure the council, not to prove anything. There was a force field around the park that night too, I felt it when I left, but didn’t when I came in.”
“You know, that doesn’t surprise me. Dane knew the lot of you were snakes and would never change your minds about humans, even after we proved so much. Edcur lied to us before the fight, told us that the rules would be changed, but he gave that same spiel to Blaze, didn’t he?” Olivia said.
“Now…” Megael began.
“Didn’t he?!” she snapped.
“…Yes…”
“Which makes you all snakes. As far as I’m concerned, I’m glad the council is crumbling. The only thing that is needed, is for supernaturals to be reinforced to follow human laws and nothing else. As I said before, this all started because YOU didn’t take tender care with a shifter who was raised by humans. Yes, Dane may had done it all, but it was you and your rules that drove him down that path in the first place,” Olivia growled, “If it wasn’t for that event, he would be in a field he loved and not down in the Underworld being tortured by Hades everyday!” she hissed, switching to wolf form and bolting out of the yard.
“Now look what you did, you upset my mate,” Shane growled, switching and running after her.
“I didn’t summon a death demon,” Megael growled.
“No, you planted a seed that did. You clearly won’t take any of the blame. What you don’t seem to get, is that letter, that simple act, forced my brothers’ hand,” Jacob sighed.
“But,”
“No but’s Megael, finish what you were saying and go,” Demon growled.
“According to a source, there was someone there that was human, but we couldn’t find that person. Apparently, it was someone close to Dane.”
“It’s not Tyson, he’s still in Ontario and has no clue of who Dane is,” Jacob said.
“Who else would be close to Dane?” Surriey asked.
Just then, Jacob quickly pulled his phone out and dialed a number. He waiting for whoever on the other end to pick it up.
“Jacob,” the male voice on the other end said.
“Hey buddy, quick question. Where were you on June 15th?”
“At Heritage Park. Dane asked me for a favor and told me what he was planning on doing. Seems I was the only one that he told,” the male answered.
“What favor?” Jacob asked regretting the question.
“Jacob, you know my job is reporting the news, maybe keep an eye on the international news tonight, you might find something interesting.”
“What did you do Nick?” he asked.
“What Dane asked me, you’ll see,” he said, before the line went dead.
“Nick? You mean our Nicolas?” Dixie asked.
“Yes, seems that Dane trusted him to do something,” Jacob said, not wanting to express more.
“What?” Megael asked.
“None of your business, and he didn’t tell me,” Jacob growled, “Now get off our property,” and with that, Megael decided not to argue and walked back down the walkway and down the street.
“Jacob?” Alex asked.
“He said to keep an eye on the news tonight. He’s a reporter and he was there that night,” Jacob sighed, afraid of what was to come.
“Well, if he’s revealing us, there’s no way that the council can wipe the mind of the entire human population,” Alex said.
“That is true. Guess we will have to wait till the six o’clock news to find out what Dane actually did,” Darren said, “Now, who wants burgers?” he laughed, breaking the awkwardness.
“Me!” everyone said in unison.
* * * *
Some time had passed since Shane and Olivia left the house; it was starting to get dark. He was holding Olivia as tears streamed heavily down her cheeks. She was shaking and completely distraught. They were both back in human form, and hidden deep in the forest at Rolley Lake where no one would see them. Olivia really didn’t want humans to see her naked, or crying for that matter. She wished her brother was here. What everyone had not realized aside from her brothers, is that even know she was an older twin, Dane had always protected her or defended her. Near the end, Olivia realized that Dane was trying to do something good. His actual plan though was what they originally thought and not of proving a point. He was actually trying to destroy the council. He was that smart in steering them away from what the truth was.
“Hades…is…doing…who knows…what to Dane,” she sobbed.
“I know Liv, I know.”
“Why…why…”
“It’s how life is.”
Shane could easily concur with what Olivia was feeling as he lost his own brother, unfortunately, he wasn’t sure how to comfort someone else who was going through the same thing, hell, no one comforted him when his brother died. All he could do, was hold her tight and tell her things would eventually get better, but he wasn’t sure himself if things would get better, he just figured that’s what she needed to hear right now.
“Hades…was…so cold.”
“It’s how he is. It’s not the crime of the council that condemned Dane, it’s because he summoned Alcatraz. Who knows, maybe Hades is actually being kind and caring to him,” Shane said, knowing that was far from the truth.
“You think?” she sniffed.
“It’s possible, anything is possible.”
“Hey guys, you need to be back at the house by six,”
“Demon? Why? What happened?” Shane asked aloud.
“We don’t know ourselves. Jacob had spoken with Nicolas earlier today after you guys left. He said that Dane asked him for a favor and he was there on the 15th. He told us to watch the six o’clock international news cast.”
“Seriously? What on Earth was Nicolas thinking?” Olivia asked.
“No idea, but get home before six, it’s five now, so hurry up.”
Olivia and Shane switched back into their animal forms and ran back to the house. It didn’t take them too long as they arrived around five-thirty. They switched back into human form and Olivia conjured clothing on both herself and him, they then entered a house, that emotions were up in the air. Tessmere, Raska, Alex and Surriey were all in a panic as they were all raised in the supernatural world. Jacob, Demon, Nicole, Darren and Dixie were all sitting on the couch, trying not to laugh at the others panicking. She could tell they were struggling with trying not to laugh. She could feel Shane panic and anxiety rising as well.
“Shane, my brother wouldn’t do anything that would put us in danger,” she said, reassuring him, which worked because she felt his emotions calming.
“Guys,” he began, but no one seemed to be listening.
“SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP!” Olivia bellowed, causing everyone to come to a dead stop.
The four that were panicking, dropped to the floor. At this point, they were not stupid enough to piss off Olivia.
“Thank you, Olivia,” Shane started, then continued, “I don’t think any of you have listened to a single thing that Jacob or his family have said, have you?” he asked.
“Um, no,” Raska said.
“Well, what Olivia pointed out to me is that their brother would not do anything to endanger the supernatural world and since none of us know what he or Dane had done, let’s just watch the news and go from there, alright?”
“Sounds good to me,” Tessmere answered.
Once everyone was calmed down, Olivia and Dixie went into the kitchen to make tea and coffee. Olivia knew the international news was an hour long, so coffee and tea was probably a good drink to have. Between her and Dixie, they had a total of eleven drinks to make. Four coffees; Tessmere, Raska, Alex and Shane all drank coffee while the rest of the beings in the house all drank tea. Once they were done, Shane and Jacob came into the kitchen to help disperse the drinks among the people in the living room. After that, Olivia and Dixie took a seat down on the couch next to Darren. Darren grabbed the remote, turned on the T.V and switched the channel to the international news broadcast. Everyone in the room went completely silent as the commercial ended and the news came on.
“Good evening, I am Ginger Flank and this is my co-anchor James Colton and this is international news. We have several stories to get through in just one hour, including a big scoop that our very own reporter Nicolas Bowen has for us. What that scoop is, we don’t know. Nicolas has only given us small details, including that is story is from Mission, BC. Now let’s get started,” Ginger said with a smile.
The news seemed to drag on for hours, everyone in the room had nerves that were going full throttle and Olivia couldn’t help but grin. It was definitely hard to not worry about what Nicolas had in store, but she knew that he cared way too much to put a threat on their world. After what seemed like forever, another commercial ended and Ginger came back on the air.
“Now, to our biggest story of the night. Joining me is Nicolas Bowen,” she said.
“Thank you Ginger,” he said smiling.
Nicolas hadn’t changed much since he left about a year ago. Like his father, he had light blue eyes and like his mother, he had dark brown hair except his was short.
“The story I have for you tonight may stir up millions of emotions, depending on what side of the spectrum you are on. For me, I grew up in both and therefore, I learned and gained experiences that no one else ever had.”
“Sound like you had an interesting life and you’re only twenty-one,” James chuckled.
“Yes. I guess I should start with once upon a time,” he laughed, then continued, “Once upon a time, there was a family of three, Dixie Bowen, her husband and their one-year old son, me. My parents thought it was a nice idea to go out and adopt a puppy. The reason behind that, is, I was actually a miracle. They were told they could never have children. So, since I would never have biological siblings, they originally thought of adopting another child, but at the time, it was too much paperwork and to much trouble, so they decided to adopt a puppy.”
“That’s adorable, what breed? I’m to assume the dog is in heaven now?” Ginger asked.
“Well, no, that is where my story gets interesting. They went out and came back with four puppies, not one. They were siblings,” he said, flashing a photo of the four adorable puppies onto the screen behind him and Ginger, “These four were four months old. Two months later however, this became this,” he said switching the photo from four puppies to four infants.
Ginger stared at the photos for a moment, unsure of how to respond to what she was looking at.
“Photoshop, right?” James asked.
“No, James,” Ginger sighed, “These children are known as shifters. Humans never knew of our existence, except for the government,” she confessed.
“Our?” James asked, completely shocked by what he was hearing and seeing.
“Yes. I am a fox shifter. Those four are wolf shifters. Why are you expressing this Nicolas? This is against supernatural laws,” she asked.
“I’ll get to that,” he said, then continued, “I grew up with these four and I love them with all my heart and I’m human. Recently, some events had unfolded. The supernatural council who is run by Megael, refuse to change laws and therefore, caused a huge problem with his grandchildren, which we recently learned, are the siblings I grew up with. My brother Dane, had applied to the police academy and because he wasn’t raised in the supernatural world, had no idea it was against the supernatural laws to be in a life saving job,” Nicolas sighed.
“Why not? Wouldn’t that actually help the humans that were in those positions?” James said.
“That’s what Dane thought too. Instead, he got a rejection letter stating the laws, which in turn, forced him onto a much darker path. Several weeks ago, he summoned a creature known as a Death Demon named Alcatraz. His intent was to destroy the council, but he didn’t reveal that to anyone. Anyone that knew, were under the assumption that he wanted to prove to the council that they would accept supernaturals, but his real plan was to wipe the council and start again with a new council that would understand the human world of today,” Nicolas explained.
“So, what happened in Mission?” Ginger asked.
“Dane had set a trap to lure the council, which succeeded, but he made sure that no humans were present, but made it look like there was to the council. A fight began between several supernatural and the demon Alcatraz, in an attempt to take him down. The council acted like cowards and it was actually common supernaturals that fought against the demon. Two council members died that night Ruby and Sarjen. Sarjen, we learned was my siblings birth father. My sister gave the final blow to Alcatraz, ending him.”
“What about the ring leader? Dane did you say?” James inquired.
“He was killed in the process,” Nicolas sighed.
“You loved him as well?” Ginger asked.
“Yes. He would have never done any of this, had the council changed the laws years ago. I have a video to show as well,” he said, gesturing to someone to play the clip.
The clip was a recap of the entire attack that happened at Heritage Park. It showed the council members Megael and Edcur, fleeing the scene. The clip showed a blurred, but clearly naked shot of Olivia, latching on the demon’s throat, and then later, the blade she used to stab the demon. Then the screen went black.
“These are the shifters who fought to protect humans, these are shifters who care,” a voice began to speak, “Why the council wants to hide this from humans is beyond me, but it should be up to humans to decide if they want to accept us or not, not some stupid council. Supernaturals are willing to follow the same laws and structures around the world as humans do. We are willing to be one with humans, but are you willing to accepted us? Knowing now that we exist among you? Yes, like humans, there are bad supernaturals, like Alcatraz, but that is why humans need us to work with them side by side, to help them stay safe,” the voice paused.
The screen revealed another video and this time, there was a being on it. The figure had short brown hair and crystal blue eyes; it was Dane.
“I may have summoned Alcatraz, but that was to prove a point that supernaturals can fend attacks like this off, can humans?” he asked, “There are creatures such as Alcatraz or supernatural far worse than myself that would want to do harm to the supernatural and the human world. We are all the same, just we have certain abilities and characteristics that humans don’t have. My adopted parents are human and they accepted us without question and never breathed a word of who we were, because of a stupid law.”
Dane paused for a moment, raking his hair, not sure of what to say next, and then he looked up.
“These laws prevent us from staying friends with humans, they prevent us from having relationships with humans. Yes, we live longer, but it doesn’t mean that a human should not be allowed to fall in love with a supernatural. I once had a human in love with me, but I had to give rejection. Something that no one, has ever known about me, I’m gay,” he stated, “The human who was in love with me was also gay. What is wrong with being with a human? Believe it or not, I liked him as well, but I knew I couldn’t.”
Dane pause again for another moment before continuing.
“What is your opinion? Humans should have a right to decide. I’m pretty sure many humans have supernatural friends, they just don’t know it,” and then the video ended.
Dumbfounded, the entire living room was silent, the T.V was silent. No one knew what to say or do. What they had all just witnessed, was a true, caring act on a supernatural side, allowing humans to have a choice.
“Um, I don’t know about the rest of the world, but I vote to work side by side with supernaturals,” James finally said, breaking the silence.
“You do?” Ginger asked.
“Well, most of us have been friends with you for years. We care about you and just because you’re an animal shifter, doesn’t mean we should cast you out,” James smiled, getting up and pulling Ginger into a loving hug, causing her to tear up, “We have a break coming up, but when we come back, we have ten minutes and would like you hear from supernaturals and humans alike about what had just occurred here tonight,” he announced, before it went to commercial.
“Oh my god, that was probably the best way of introducing supernaturals to humans ever,” Alex gleamed, looking towards Olivia, Demon and Jacob who all had shocked expressions, “Hello?” she said, waving her hand.
“Oh…sorry Alex,” Olivia said.
“What gives? That was awesome,” Surriey smiled.
“That’s not what shocked us…Dane…Gay?” Jacob slowly said.
“That would be a first,” Raska said, standing up to stretch.
“What do you mean?” Olivia asked.
“There has never been anyone in supernatural society that has admitted being gay. There might be supernaturals out there, but until tonight, we wouldn’t have known anyone. Dane probably gave them courage to come out like he did,” he explained.
“No wonder Dane never had a girlfriend,” Demon chuckled.
“Oh gosh…Now I know what Dane meant,” Olivia sighed.
“What do you mean Liv?” Shane asked.
“At the hospital, Dane said he knew full well what Hades was capable of. Now I understand,” she said.
“Ironically, Hades is also gay,” Shane said casually, leaning back on the couch.
“What?!” everyone said, shocked.
“Hades wife was murdered and he went full gay after that. I had a sense when we saw him at the park of what his intent was. Dane’s his sex slave. I doubt that Hades didn’t know Dane was gay, Hades knows everything,” Shane explained.
“Great, we really needed to know that our brother is Hades sex slave,” Jacob growled.
“It’s better than agonizing torture. Who knows, maybe he’ll let Dane visit if he’s a good boy,” Shane said in a serious tone before the news returned.
“Back to our main story,” Ginger began, “Our phones have been ringing off the hook throughout the break and now we can answer them. First caller is Julie, we won’t say last names for protection or locations.”
“Um yes, my name is Julie, I’m human and I’m from Texas. I had seen strange things before, but could never explain them. Thank you, Nicolas and Dane, for confirming I’m not crazy,” she laughed, “I agree with James, we need the supernaturals either as friends, neighbors or protectors, whichever they become, they should be apart of our society and not hidden.”
“Thank you, Julie. Next caller is Nolan,” James said.
“Yes, I understand Dane did a bad thing, but if he hadn’t, this wouldn’t be happening today. I’m a snake shifter who is madly in love with a human woman and I know she loves me. She saw this story and came running to my place tonight. I showed her who I was and she accepted me, scales and all.”
“Thank you for that Nolan. Our next caller is Tyson,” Ginger introduced.
“Yes. My name is Tyson. I was close best friends with Dane and I had no idea he was a supernatural. Now I know why he had to reject me. These supernatural rules are stupid. While watching the news tonight, someone at my school, revealed themselves and told everyone in the room, all the rules that supernaturals had to follow. I don’t blame Dane for what he did, I applause him. I was the human he was talking about rejecting. I had a hard time calling in, as my tears won’t stop. I cared an awful lot about Dane and his siblings. If you’re watching, my condolences on the loss of your brother and to you Nick. You did a good thing for Dane tonight,” he said, sniffing.
“Thank you, Tyson. Come by the house when you get back. Finish your studies first, because I know if Dane were here, he’d kick your butt if you drop out,” Nicolas warned.
“I know. See you all soon.”
“That was Tyson, a close friend of Dane’s for anyone who is tuning in now. We have time for one more caller and that is anonymous.”
“Yes. I am actually speaking on behalf of someone who currently cannot speak for themselves. Dane was not condemned for his actions against the council, he was condemned for summoning a demon from the Underworld. Seeing as supernaturals are revealing themselves, it only seems fitting for humans to also know about the gods, goddesses and all the pantheons in existence as well. Dane did well, but, at the end of the day, summoning a demon does not get you off Hades condemned list. Blaze killed Dane, if Dane had not died, he would still be forced into the Underworld. At the end of the day, he did all of this for his family, for humans and for supernaturals alike, and as much as I don’t want to, I agree to what he had done to allow supernaturals and humans and all others to live side by side,” the voice said, before the line went dead.
“And this concludes the international news. Tune in tomorrow night, where we will have some supernaturals and humans here in our studio to speak their minds. This will probably continue for a fair bit, good night and happy health,” Ginger announced before the news ended.
“That…That was Hades,” Olivia said.
“What are you talking about?” Surriey asked.
“The last voice, that was Hades, I’d recognize it anywhere,” she said, looking to Shane.
“You’re right,” he concurred.
“He sided with us?” Demon asked confused.
“Well, opening a door for supernaturals and humans, also opened the door for the pantheons, like Hades stated,” Shane answered.
“Thanks to Nicolas and Dane, we don’t have to hide anymore,” Alex smiled.
“And Megael can’t do a damn thing about it. There’s too many that know now,” Raska chuckled.
* * * *
Hades Chambers in the Underworld
Hades laid casually on his bed, his one arm raking his hair, while the other forced Dane to stay by his side. Dane would not stop fighting him, it had been a few weeks since he was condemned to the Underworld. Hades barely let him leave his chamber, except for eating. Hades was definitely a god that acted like he was constantly in heat. He wanted Dane morning, noon and night.
“Let go,” Dane growled.
“My bedroom, I’ll do what I wish.”
“You’re an asshole.”
“And you’re a hot piece of ass.”
“You’re not charming,” Dane hissed, feeling Hades free hand, cupping him.
“I’m always charming, you’re just not used to it,” he said, turning and nibbling on Dane’s ear.
“Quit that.”
“No,” he responded, spooning Dane, causing him to squirm more.
“Hades, please. I’m not in the mood,” he growled.
“Funny fact, you’re never in the mood.”
“Clearly, because this is forced!”
“I heard a rumor; your siblings are planning a three-way wedding. Surriey and Demon, Jacob and Alex, Olivia and Shane. So, in light of that fact, if you cooperate with me, I will give you permission to attend their wedding,” he said, wrapping his hand around Dane penis.
“Seriously?” he asked as he stopped squirming, “You’re not lying to me?”
“No. I believe it is an occasion you should be a part of,” Hades answered, moving his hand faster.
“Fine,” Dane groaned.
“You also have to try and show your enjoyment to my advances,” he continued as Dane released in bliss.
“Seriously?” Dane asked, breathing heavily.
“Seriously, because I know you are enjoying it, you just refuse to accept it.”
“Fine.”
