Decisions (Inner Desires Series) - Chapter 2
Dane put his head in his hands; frustrated and not knowing how to deal with his siblings. Dane was sitting on a bench in Heritage Park. The park was beautiful; lots of luscious grass, trees planted throughout the park. The bench he was sitting on was up against a pathway, one way led down towards where a concession would be and the washrooms, while the other path lead into the forest. It was nightfall, the moon was more bright tonight than usual. Dane made a noise that sounded like disgust; he couldn’t decide whether he should just up and leave his siblings, or tell them what he was planning. He weighed the pros and cons a million times, and the cons always outweighed the pros, especially when it came to the fact that his siblings were strict with following the laws. In the end, he knew he couldn’t tell them and he knew he was alone in his quest.
“Deep in thought kid?” a male voice said.
“Kind of,” Dane responded, lifting his gaze to the male that spoke “And you are?”
“Tessmere is my name. I’ve met your siblings already, they seem nice enough,” Tessmere said with a grin, exposing his clean white teeth.
“They are. I doubt they’ll understand what I am trying to do. Wait, how do you know who I am?” Dane said.
“Never mind that kid, I need to give you a warning,” Tessmere said, his grin disappearing as he walked up and stood in front of Dane. He then leaned close to Dane, close enough that Tessmere’s lips were almost touching Dane’s ear “This is a warning to you Dane Asayda, by the government of supernatural law. I won’t stop you from what you are going to do, but in the end, there will be severe consequences for your actions,” he whispered, before leaning back and walking away.
Before Dane could say anything, Tessmere vanished; it wasn’t that dark, so there was no way he was not in sight unless he was extremely fast. The guy gave Dane the shivers, shivers that he couldn’t shake. He knew what he was doing was wrong, but no one else was doing anything in this supernatural world to have humans accept them. If he didn’t do something, who would? Dane figured that no one would do anything because they’re too afraid to stand up to the members of the government, and that was just it, he needed to break down the government, so that supernaturals were not afraid to take charge. Dane figured if the government was broken, then maybe supernaturals had more of a chance in the human world. He needed this, no, he wanted this; he wanted this more than anything. Tessmere’s threat didn’t bother him as he already knew what the consequences would be if he failed, he would spend all eternity in hell; an act against the government is the most unlawful thing anyone could do, and Dane knew that. At the end of the day, he would suffer no matter what, but if there was no government, they would have to start a new government, which meant new rules.
He finally decided to leave the park; Dane shifted from his five-foot seven height to that of a dusty brown three-foot high wolf. He bolted from the bench into the forest. He needed some stuff and he knew where to get it. Dane ran for about ten minutes before he came upon a private lot. He slowed down to enter the lot, which had a cute little house nestled in the middle of it. The land was about an acre, and had numerous trees surrounding it. The house itself, had vines growing up the sides of it; it also looked quite rustic.
Dane shifted from his wolf form to his human form and with a snap of his fingers, conjured clothing onto himself before he walked up to the front door. Once there, he knocked on it and waited until someone answered. After a moment, there was a tiny voice on the other side, inquiring who was outside.
“My name is Dane, I heard that you have some ingredients I need for a ritual,” he answered.
The door slowly opened then and a small woman came out of it. She looked up at Dane with curiosity in her emerald green eyes. Her one hand was playing with a strand of her shoulder length straw blonde hair. Dane looked at her curiously for a moment, not sure what to think of the woman standing in front of him.
“I need ingredients for a summoning spell,” he responded.
“Summoning of what?”
“You’re an oracle, figure it out,” Dane said, annoyed.
“Then take your business elsewhere,” she scoffed.
“Fine. I need to awaken a demon,” he answered.
“That is very dangerous if you do not know what you are doing.”
“I’ve done my research. Can you help me?”
“If I must. Come in Dane, have a seat and I will get what you need,” she answered, opening her door.
When Dane entered her home, he was taken aback. The décor that the woman had in her home, was quite unusual. She had jars full of fluid, and what was in the fluid was even more disturbing. Eye balls, testicles, and other various things that would give anyone the willies. Dane sat. The chair he sat on was old and torn. The room it was in, had the same décor as the main entrance. He looked around the room, it was just as creepy as the rest of the house, but something on the wall caught his eye. On the wall closest to where he was sitting was a photograph of the woman he had just met and the man he had recently met in the park.
“Here’s all you need,” the woman said, entering the room, breaking his concentration.
“Oh, thanks. I don’t mean to pry, but you know that man?” he said, pointing to the photo.
“Oh yes. Him and I had a fling a long time ago. Tessmere; he’s an immortal hunter,” she said smiling, allowing her teeth to be revealed. She had one side tooth missing, but other than that, the woman was flawless in beauty.
“Immortal hunter?” Dane asked.
“He is a government member. He deals with overpopulation.”
“May I ask why you separated?”
“His family was murdered by a shifter and the shifter’s father. Tessmere never let go of the past and it always got in the way, so in the end, I told him to leave. The shifter he has a grudge against is also a government member, his name is Sarjen Asayda,” she explained.
“Asayda? I had an encounter this evening with Tessmere, he called me Asayda.”
“Then you must be family to Sarjen in some way.”
“I guess.”
“Be aware that summoning a demon can be extremely deadly and have dire consequences,” she warned, before handing him the bag of ingredients, “And depending on what kind of demon you are summoning, you could be taken control of.”
“Thank you from the warning, but I’ll be fine. I know what I’m doing,” he responded.
“At the end of the day, you have received two warnings,” she cooed, “Have a good evening Dane.”
“May I know your name?”
“Nope. I only give my name to those I trust, and I have only just met you,” she said, ushering him out of her house and slamming the door behind him.
A little baffled, Dane headed down the path that lead out of the woman’s driveway. He had only known about her because Blaze had mentioned that she would have what he needed; now that he had what he needed, he needed to put his plan in action and summon the demon he needed to complete his plan. He realized that he learned something new tonight, he learned that two government members hate each other, or at least one hated the other for a wrong doing. He wondered if maybe Tessmere might help him, seeing as the guy didn’t seem like he wanted to stop him. Then again, Dane knew that his plan would be targeting Tessmere as well, so maybe that was a bad idea; however, he knew he needed a crew to help with the summoning.
He pulled his cellphone out and dialed a number and then waited for the other end to pick up.
“Hey,” Dane said into the phone.
“Yo, what’s up?” Blaze said on the other end.
“You know anyone willing to go against the laws?”
“Of course. Let’s meet tomorrow night at the warehouse in the back of town,” Blaze said.
“Alright, what time?”
“Eleven. You need to ditch those siblings of yours too.”
“I know. I’ll figure something out tonight. It’s getting late and I know they’re already going to be concerned when I walk through the door. Might be a good thing though, as I might be able to make a big enough fight that I just leave and not come back,” Dane laughed.
“That could work.”
“I’ll call you later,” Dane said, before hanging up his phone and putting it in his back pocket.
Dane knew exactly what to do to cause a huge fight with his siblings, and at the end, he would walk out of the house and not turn back. Once he put this into motion, he knew he couldn’t go back, because what he was going to do, was going to cause them to not want him around anymore. There was only one way to put a wedge between them, and as much as Dane was going to hate it, he was going to go through with it. He pulled his phone back out and called another number.
“Dane?” the female voice said.
“Hey Liv, I need you to meet me at Centennial Park,” Dane said.
“Sure, I’ll get our brothers…”
“Don’t,” Dane said, cutting her off “Jake, Demon and I are not getting along right now. I’d prefer to just meet with you and talk, you know,” he said, his voice cracking a little.
“Okay. I’ll let them know I’m meeting you. I’ll be there shortly,” she said, before there was a click and the line went dead.
Now that Dane successfully lured his sister out of the house, he slowly headed towards the park he was meeting Olivia at. He knew what he was about to do was going to hurt him, but there was no other way for him to separate himself from his family. As much as he loved them, he knew that they would never see what he sees and therefore he needed to do this on his own, or at least without the people he loved, and maybe this was a good thing because it would keep his family safe. His siblings couldn’t even figure out how to shift yet and that wasn’t a good thing either, but that meant that they wouldn’t be able to stop him. At the end of the day, all Dane wanted was for the humans to accept them and for them to be the same as humans. Although that was his hope, he knew there would be obstacles to achieve this goal.
Some time passed and as Dane reached the park, he saw his sister sitting on a bench near the playground; her eyes were fixed on her phone, the screen wasn’t on, but it looked like she was expecting a text, perhaps from him, saying he couldn’t make it. He continued to walk towards her, causing her to lift her head. She got up from the bench and rushed to him, gripping him in a bear hug.
“Liv…I can’t…. breathe!” he said.
“Sorry, we’re just all worried about you,” she said, tears welling in her eyes.
“Sorry, I’ve just been extremely stressed lately. This stupid rule with the humans, its ridiculous,” Dane sighed.
“We love you Dane, you can tell us what’s going on, we’ll help you,” she sniffed, trying to hide her tears.
“No, you can’t and I don’t want you involved or having to deal with the consequences of my actions.”
“What actions? You haven’t done anything wrong!” she said, anger building in her voice.
“You don’t understand,” he sighed.
Dane held Olivia for a few moments longer, he then dropped one of his hands and reached around his back. When he brought his hand back around, he was holding a sharp medieval looking dagger. He raised it behind Olivia’s back and plunged it right between her shoulder blades, causing her to gasp.
“I’m sorry Olivia,” he said, his voice cracking.
“W..Why?” she asked as he lowered her to the soft ground.
“I can’t have any of you involved.”
Dane grabbed Olivia’s phone and dialed 911 and then put it next to her. He then bolted off into the distance.
