Chapter 436: Chapter 437: Please, Save My Younger Brother
“Damn it!” The man swore angrily, “What are you dawdling for? After them, now!”
The two men raced to the window and saw two children holding hands and dashing into the heart of the forest. They immediately gave chase.
As they ran, they hurled curses, “Stop right now, you little brats, or I swear, I’ll break your fucking legs once I get my hands on you!”
Their voices were getting closer and closer.
Lingyue was drenched in sweat from anxiety.
He and Xiao Shu couldn’t outrun the two adults.
Despite his determined will and a few days of martial arts training, he was just eight years old with no chance of outmaneuvering two grown men.
If they continued this way, he and Xiao Shumiao would inevitably be captured by the men.
He gritted his teeth, pulled Xiao Shu around a turn, and took cover in the wild grass, temporarily disappearing from their pursuers’ line of sight.
While he ran, he searched around and finally found a suitable hiding spot.
It was a large hole hidden by the overgrown weeds. If not looking closely, it wouldn’t be noticed.
Lingyue shoved Xiao Shumiao into the hole and told him, “Xiao Shu, crawl inside.”
Xiao Shumiao obediently crawled deep into the hole.
The hole wasn’t very deep, but it was sufficient to hide a five-year-old.
Lingyue grabbed handfuls of grass to throw into the hole, murmuring commands, “Xiao Shu, stay hidden here. Only emerge when our teacher and his wife call for you. Do you understand?”
Xiao Shumiao crouched in the hole, tearfully looking at him, “And where will you go, Brother Xiaoyue?”
Lingyue tried to reassure him, “The hole is too small for both of us. I’ll find another nearby. Just listen to me; I’ll be able to go hide myself only if I know you’ll stay here. Understand, Xiao Shu?”
Tears streaming down his face, Xiao Shumiao nodded.
“Good, stay here and remember, only come out when our teacher and his wife arrive!” Lingyue instructed once more before hurriedly covering the entrance of the hole with the nearby wild grass.
After taking a few steps back, he checked for any visible signs. There were none.
He quickly deviated his path and ran towards the right.
Behind him, the angry curses of the two men, along with their relentless search, could be clearly heard.
He glanced back and saw the two men approaching the place where Xiao Shu was hidden. He gritted his teeth and feigned falling, letting out a cry.
The two men were instantly drawn to his shout, “Over there, quick, chase him!”
Lingyue scrambled up and ran forward as if his life depended on it.
Without Xiao Shumiao’s weight slowing him down, he was running faster than before.
But he still couldn’t shake off the two men.
Suddenly a cliff appeared in front of him. Gritting his teeth, he picked up a rock and threw it off the edge. He then threw himself down at the cliff’s edge and wailed, “My brother…my brother…”
He dared not call out Xiao Shu’s name.
He was afraid Xiao Shu would rush out upon hearing his name.
The two winded men finally caught up. The tattooed one grabbed the back of Lingyue’s collar and smacked him across the face, “Fucking hell! You made us run like dogs! Do you want to get back alive? I’ll beat the shit out of you!”
“Sir, please, save my little brother!” Lingyue grabbed the tattooed man’s arm and cried, pointing down the cliff, “My brother fell down there. Sir, please save him. My family has a lot of money, sir. You can have as much as you want if you save my brother!”
