Demon Legacy - Chapter 12 The Venomous First Miss
At home Zander came running outside as Kaden disembarked the flying car. He was a ball of excitement as he ran straight towards his brother.
“Second Young Master wait for me!” It was a comical sight as Zander’s servant came trailing behind trying his best to keep up.
“Brother brother how was it?” Zander had been extremely curious regarding this school. He’d been waiting at home all day to hear about it. As soon he saw Kaden come home he had flown out the door to ask questions.
“It was nothing much. I probably spent more time in the flying car than at school.” When Kaden thought about it, it was likely that that was the case. The line at the registration desk was short and the test only took a few minutes because he skipped the line.
“Really? But how was your test? Did anyone do better than you?” Zander wanted to know the specifics. In his eyes his brother was by far the best, no one could be any stronger than him. He needed to make sure there wasn’t anyone who had beat his brother. He looked up to his older sibling a lot.
“I won’t know about that before tomorrow. The results are going to be released then. I’m also pretty sure there’s still people waiting to take their tests right now.”
“Naturally my brother is the strongest!” Zander proudly laid down that statement.
Kaden laughed loudly and ruffled his brother’s hair, “Thank you.”
“Anyway did you study well?” Kaden asked.
“Mhm.” Zander obediently nodded his head. The boy enjoyed studying and his tutors were full of praises for him. He couldn’t wait to go to school where he would be able to study all day.
The two brothers were very different in that regard. Kaden was full of talent for martial arts and pursed it wholeheartedly. Because he wanted to imitate his brother, Zander also put in all his efforts towards martial arts, but he was more talented in his studies and also enjoyed it more.
“When I go to school I’m going to take all the subjects.” To Zander, a place where you came to study all day seemed like a dream come true.
“You do that. I’ll just focus on cultivation and martial arts. This way, when you become the family head we can make up for each others weaknesses.” Kaden disliked that his father paid more attention to Zander, but he didn’t blame his brother for that. The two had a strong bond. Kaden also didn’t want the family head position, it wasn’t worth much in his eyes.
“Promise?” With hopeful eyes, Zander stuck out his pinkie.
“Promise.” Kaden grabbed Zander’s pinkie with his own.
At seven years old he had no idea how different things would turn out, and that it would be impossible for him to stay forever. Right now they had sworn a promise, but promises were hard to keep.
The moment was cut short when the First Miss, Elena, came outside.
“I see you’re back home Kaden.” She said, a hint of disdain in her voice.
“Yes First Aunt.” Kaden addressed the woman respectively. He’d learnt over time that it was easier to just be courteous towards her, otherwise she would cause a scene and scold him endlessly.
“Good, I hope you did alright. The family has a reputation to uphold after all.”
“I’m sure I did fine, you don’t need to worry.”
“We shall see tomorrow.” She dismissed him and turned her attention to her son Zander. Her tone changed and she spoke in a loving manner, “Sweetie it’s time for your training. Your father’s already waiting in the practice room.” She put an emphasis on the word father and gave a quick glance at Kaden.
“Oh okay, bye brother.” Zander said goodbye to Kaden as he left with his mother.
Kaden watched as they left, holding his angry retorts back. That woman was always trying her best to get under his skin. It worked quite well because she knew just what to say.
The only thing that bothered him was the fact that his father didn’t want anything to do with him. She grasped every opportunity to use this fact against him. To shove it in his face.
It was hard for him to not get angry. He took a few deep breaths and managed to calm down. Before he’d realized it, she’d just managed to do it again.
She was a venomous creature, striking his weak points with only the use of words. Even in front of others she could do it stealthily so no one but him would notice. It was infuriating to think that she had this much control over his emotions.
Kaden shook his head as he noticed himself getting annoyed again. He decided to go inside and do a bit of martial arts practice in his room. Practicing martial arts always helped ground him and forced him to think about other things.
After practicing, Kaden had gotten a hold of himself again. It was fortunate because it was just in time for his daily session with Burcham. That keen old man would certainly notice if he wasn’t at his best.
He went to the practice room and found Burcham sitting on the floor inside.
“How did you do Young Master?” Asked Burcham as soon as he entered the room. Seeing as Burcham was the one who trained Kaden, he was extra curious about the results.
“1240 kg.”
“1240 huh? Not bad, that’s your new best.” Burcham stroked his slight stubble, looking quite pleased, “I am very happy with your results. But that doesn’t mean you can relax.”
“I will keep working hard.” Kaden walked over and took his seat opposite Burcham.
“It’s good you understand. There’s no doubt that you are the best in your age group. But they aren’t your rivals, you shouldn’t set them as your goal. You have the opportunity to do the impossible. The legendary 18th level, for you it’s not merely a fantasy.” Burcham looked like he had gone somewhere faraway, dreaming about the 18th level.
Kaden just sat in silence. He’d experienced this a few times and found that it was best not to disturb Burcham when he entered that state. He would just wait for him to return to reality.
Ever since Burcham had started training Kaden, he’d grown more and more obsessed with the 18th level of the Body Tempering realm.
The closer they got, the more infatuated he grew. He didn’t let Kaden slack off for a moment. Kaden’s training only became harder and harder as Burcham desperately pushed him to improve even faster.
