Desolate World - Chapter 159
It had been a long time since he heard of the job’s name. It was the rarest job he could get when he was choosing a job. Who knew he would hear it again.
What surprised him was an elf that had it. He thought only humans could pick the job, but it seemed not like that. Other races seemed to be able to learn the rare jobs as well. What became his concern was, if it was true, he seemed to waste a quota of an S rarity job for human beings.
However, besides feeling a little bit guilty, he didn’t regret his decision. Because, he knew that if he had chosen the gambler of fate, his family would have taken a very different journey. As the rarity of his job was higher, their starting point would be farther from the nearest settlement than they had had.
And all that they had gotten this far, maybe they wouldn’t be able to get if he chose gambler of fate. In the end, he had already been satisfied with his choice in the past to choose joker as his job.
However, he wanted to know the elf that had chosen the gambler of fate job. And if he didn’t see a problem in the guy’s character, he would cultivate him. And he even thought about lending his dice to him. As it was pretty much useless for him. As he preferred to use his two hands to throw the cards. After all, an S rarity job surely was strong. It was good to have capable subordinates.
“And my mother wants to say something about one of the recruits that we have gotten,” Sofia said mysteriously.
Ace’s attention was directly piqued by Sofia’s words. He then looked at his mother-in-law.
Cloud didn’t change her expression as her name was mentioned. She said, “I will be direct. I, Geo, and Sofia met a bard yesterday. For some reason, she held a device that can record video and then transmit it to our world. I call it a ‘bug’.
By having it, I know that she had made an agreement with the Union to be the eye and ear in this world. So, I and Sofia made contact with her yesterday. I asked her help to promote this settlement and tell the people the truth about this world.”
Ace was alarmed. His brother seemed to be so. Ace questioned Cloud’s action. To tell the truth about the world? If what she meant was to tell the world about the relationship between races in this world, he would agree.
But if what she meant was to tell all of the truth, like how this world was the key to saving humanity, and someone could gain quotas to migrate to a different world by making achievements in this world, then he would disagree. As he didn’t want society to fall into chaos.
He thought the reason the government didn’t tell the truth about this ‘game’ was because they feared the people would react exaggeratingly. Because he understood the selfishness of the people. When they were told that they could be saved by having quotas or at least were listed in the quotas that were held by someone, the people would try to get the quotas with all their means. Even Ace couldn’t predict what they would do.
“Ma’am, could you be specific about your plan of telling the people the truth?” Ace then heard his brother ask the question that he himself wanted to ask.
Cloud then looked at Sampson’s eyes provocatively, “I want to tell them all that we know. Of course, I will not tell them that Ace has held 100 quotas. But, I will tell them that we heard it from different races.”
Ace could feel the atmosphere become tense in an instant. Sampson looked at Cloud’s eyes sharply. But Cloud didn’t avoid the confrontation.
“Don’t you know that your plan is not according to the Union’s scenario?” Sampson asked.
Cloud then sighed. She then asked, “Soldier, how far do you understand about the Union’s plan? Or what you said just now only based on your assumptions?”
Sampson’s face turned red in an instant. He then said, “I don’t know exactly what the Union was planning. But I think we should coordinate our actions with the Union, as it is related to the future of humankind.”
Ace agreed with his brother. He didn’t want to take a rash action that would cause a disturbance in society. It would be best if they act according to the government’s plan.
“Sadly, your so-called Union’s plan is to wait and see. Even at this moment, I’m sure the stupid Michael, the president of Human Union, and his cabinet are still observing the situation. Like us, they don’t know much about this world and what they have to do to get the quotas,” Cloud said.
Then she looked at Ace, and smiled. And then she said, “As we have the person who knows how to get the quotas but can not say it directly. We just have to observe him closely, right?”
Ace’s body shivered. He then coughed, “Cough… Cough… Ma’am. Actually, I agree with my brother. As we don’t know the consequences of doing that to society. I think we should really be prudent in dealing with this issue.”
Cloud then shook her head. But as she wanted to say anything else, Sofia intruded, “I think they are right, mom. Why do we have to do it? You usually don’t care about something like this, right?”
Ace then realized it. His mother-in-law usually didn’t care much about ‘the worldly things’. So, why did she insist on this ‘saving the world’ plan?
Cloud’s face became red. She seemed to not expect to get the question from her daughter. She then became quiet and closed her eyes.
Ace was afraid she would be outraged. And it seemed it was the same with Sofia and Sampson. As they seemed to prepare to receive the barrage of scolding.
