[Haru’s narrating]

When I was five, I attended a party with my parents. The party was so boring that I went on the balcony. I heard a beautiful voice in the garden. I went to the garden. That woman was very beautiful. “Oh. Looks like we have a visitor, Meera.” The girl named Meera hides behind the woman’s dress. “No need to be afraid, Meera. Look, its a boy.” She looks at me. “You must be Young Master Haru. Nice to meet you.” “And you are…?” “Ah. Forgive me. I’m Luna, Meera’s mother.” “You have a beautiful voice.” “Thank you.” “Why are you out here instead in the party?” Luna smiles sadly. I don’t quite understand why she’s showing a sad smile. Luna asks me what I want to be when I grow up. “Of course, I will be the next heir of the Lu family.” Meera’s eyes shine looking how confident I am. She raised her hand and said, “I want to be big brother’s wife when i grow up.” “Who wants to marry a dirty girl like you? Humph.” Luna laughs. Meera’s on her knees in a slump, depressed that she got rejected. Luna smiles and told me, “Haru, you will make one fine heir. Before that, promise me one thing, will you?” “What is it?” She looks at Meera who’s all depressed. “Protect my girl for me.” “Protect her?” “Why does she need protection?” Luna sadly smiles, “You’re still young. Once you’re older and mature, you’ll know what I mean. Before she could say anything more, a maid comes and calls her. She replied, “I’ll be there.” She looks at Meera and smiles, “wait for mommy, okay?” “Okay.” Meera then walks up to me. “You wanna play?” “I don’t want to play with you?” “Why?” “You’re dirty.” “Dirty?” She looks over her clothes and was confused of how dirt got into her. “Ah. I was planting flowers with mommy.” I ignored her. “Let’s play.” “No.” I got startled because she looks like she’s going to cry. I sigh and gave in. “Fine. Let’s play. Only for a little bit.” “YAY!!!” She smiles so brightly. I realized how beautiful her smile was. I promised to myself that I will protect that smile of hers. “Let’s play hide and seek. I hide, you seek.” Before I could say anything, she always ran and hide. I began to count. Before I reach to ten, I heard Meera’s cry for help. “Big brother!!! Big brother!!! Help me!!! No!!! Let me go!!!” I ran and followed her voice. I saw two big men in black trying to kidnapped her. “Let her go.” I ran towards them in order to stop them but who knew that they are stronger. Stronger than me. One shoved me to the ground, hard. My whole body ache, but I won’t give up. She kept calling for me. I need to save her. Then I felt something trigger back of my head. I fell on my knees. Her crying face is all I see. I lost conscious. Her voice are going further and further away from me.

Next morning, I opened my eyes. I sat up and my mom was by my side. I could see that she’s been crying, her tears are dried. Somehow I feel like I am missing something. My mom woke up and hugged me tightly. “Thank goodness, you’re alright.” “Where is she?” My mom was confused. “Who are you talking about?” “…” I thought about it but I couldn’t remember her face or her name. I looked at my mom, who’s been worried about me. “It’s nothing.”

At age of 8, my parents and I went to visit grandfather. Grandfather welcomes us. He introduced us to another member of the family. I remembered father is the only son of grandfather. As i thought about it, a girl shows up. Who is she? Why she looks so familiar? She quickly hides behind grandfather. “It’s okay, Iris. This is Harold, my son. Maya is my daughter in law. And lastly, Haru, my grandson. Haru will be your big brother for now on. Come on. Greet them.” She peeks and said, “N-nice t-to m-meet you. I’m I-iris.” My mother fell in love with her. “Nice to meet you. You’re so cute.” Iris startled and hides behind grandfather. “Now now. It’s okay.” Haru looks away, disinterested. “Way a go, mom. You scared her.” “I didn’t mean to. Hey, it’s okay. I know. You can call me mom.” She popped her head out, interested. “M-mom..” It hits her and she hugged Iris tightly. “You’re so cute!!! Cuter than Haru. I always wanted a girl. I even dressed Haru as a girl.” Haru shivered. “He enjoys it.” He threw his shoe at the back his mom’s head. “Who enjoys it..?” Soon his mom turns her head, “Haru, just who do you think you’re talking to? Hmm?” Haru falters and shivered. How scary. Forgot that mom looks scary when she gave me that devil look.

As the time goes by, I often found myself looking at her. She barely talks to me. I want to talk to her but I don’t know what to say to her. One time I walked into her room, I froze. She was in the middle of changing. I slammed the door. What was that? I banged my head on the wall. I see nothing. nothing. But i noticed something on her body. A big scar. How did she get that? I went to see my grandfather to see if he knows. “Grandfather.” “Ah. Haru. I was about to see you.” “Hey gramps.” “Yes.” “That scar.” Gramps looked at me then he grins. “Oh..you’re checking her out already. How bold.” I smack him. “I’m not pervert as much as you.” “I found her when I was hiking.” “You mean you ran away from your secretary’s lecture?” “Oh I did, didn’t i? Anyways, she was already wounded but when she woke up, she doesn’t recall her name or anything. I took her home. Isnt she pretty?” “Why did you take her here?” “Didn’t I tell you? She’s going to be your bride.” “Ah my bride.” I nod. Wait. WHHHHAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTT?!!!!!!!! “S-she’s g-going to be my b-b-b-bride? Since when? I didn’t agree to it!!!!” I pulled the stupid old man’s shirt by the neck. “Haru. You seen it didn’t you.?” “Seen what?” “Ah you know….(whispered) everything.” My mind went blank. My face flushed. “I-I-I-I didn’t see anything!” I ran away. “Oh boy, there he goes.” Grandfather looks the direction that I ran off to. “Haru…she’s the one you’re looking for. She’s your Meera. You need to get strong and protect her. She needs you.” Grandfather looks at the window. He sees Meera playing with the dogs outside. He smiles. “My granddaughter-in-law is sure beautiful. You can only suited for Haru, isn’t that right Harold?” Grandfather looks on the side. Harold is standing by the door. “I couldn’t agree more, Father.” “Haru…” “I know. He’s still young but he will get stronger in order to protect her.” Grandfather nods.

[Present]

I quickly sat up from dreaming about the little girl. That’s right. Iris is my Meera. How can I forget? I head out and went into her room. She is still sleeping soundlessly. I smile at her sleeping face. I sat down next to her. I’ve been searching for you ever since, thought that I was just hallucinating. You’ve been in front of me all this time. Meera. I kept my words. I will get stronger to find you and protect you. Now that you regain your memories, you probably looking for answers, right? I will lend a hand to find those answers for you. I stroke her hair gently. Will there be a day for you to open your heart to me, Meera?
