Destined to be yours… - Chapter 36
Brett felt energised and he was feeling excited too because last night, Aly and him slept together in one bed. Though nothing intimate happened, he was satisfied with what Aly did to him. When he reached the other side of the bed to feel the warmth coming from his beloved, he frowned because his side was empty.
While stretching, Brett’s phone rang. “Hello.” Brett said. “I’ll just remind you about the 25th. Eventhough you have Aly now, still, you should pay your respect to her.” Brett’s mother said. “Yes, Ma, I know. Can I bring them?” Brett asked. “Sure, why not, you can introduce them to her.” His mother said. “Thanks, Ma, bye!” Brett said and ended the call.
Brett got up from bed and went into the bath.
Aly was busy preparing their breakfast when her phone rang. “Morning, Mom.” Aly said. “Dear, do you have any plans for the 25th?” Aly’s mother asked. “Same as before, Mom.” Aly said. “Will you bring Brett and the kids?” Her mother asked. “I’ll ask Brett later.” Aly said. “Have you told him about it?” Her mother asked. “Not yet, Mom.” Aly said. “Ok, just tell me the details so I could tell your siblings ahead of time.” Her mother said. “Ok, Mom, bye!” Aly said and ended the call.
“Morning, love!” Brett said while hugging Aly from behind. “Morning, sleepy head.” Aly said, faced Brett and gave him a kiss. “You drained all my energy last night so I woke up late.” Brett said with a teasing tone. “Yeah, my hand and mouth felt numb after giving you satisfaction.” Aly said grinning. “Don’t worry, after your visitor, I’ll return you the favor and double it.” Brett said winking at Aly and made her blushed.
“Morning, Dad, Mommy Aly!” Harper and Aria spoke at once. “Morning, my sweets.” Aly said smiling. The two girls ran towards Aly and gave her a hug. “What about me?” Brett said. The two girls smiled and gave their dad a peck. Tyler and Caden were the next to wake up. Gave a peck on their mother and a hug to Brett. At first, the two boys were hesitant to hug Brett but when he opened his arms, the two boys walked towards him and hug him. It was too sudden but Brett felt happy.
“Mom, what are we going to do on the 25th?” Tyler asked. Aly is serving their breakfast. Brett looked at her. “Same as before, son.” Aly said. “How about us, Dad?” Harper asked. “What’s on the 25th?” Brett asked Aly not answering Harper’s question. “It’s our dad’s death anniversary.” Caden said. “Really? It’s the same with our mom.” Aria said. Brett and Aly looked at each other with curiosity on their faces.
“It’s a twist of fate, right?” Brett said looking at Aly. Because it was Sunday, the kids are in the living room watching movies again while the couple are in the porch sipping coffee.
“Yeah. How did your wife died?” Aly asked. “Car accident.” Brett said. Aly looked at Brett. “My husband’s death was a car accident too.” Aly said. “Don’t tell me it’s on Highway One?” Brett said that made Aly’s eyes became wide. “Yes!” Aly said. “The truck lost brakes and hit several cars including my husband’s and your wife’s too?” Aly continued. “Yeah!” Brett said. They are both surprised and later laughed.
“It’s really a twist of faith.” Aly said, still could not believe the turns of their story. “Yeah.” Brett said.
“So, what’s your plan on the 25th?” Brett asked. “Every year, the kids and I, together with my parents and siblings, we’ll go to my husband’s resting place. Because it’s Christmas day, we’ll spent our vacation there until New Year’s Eve.” Aly said. “What about you?” Aly asked. “It’s the same with you.” Brett said. “Mama told me to bring you and the kids but I guess, it’s not gonna happen.” Brett said with a little sadness on his voice and Aly felt it. Silence came.
“Mommy Aly, I want fries.” Aria said that made the couple came back from their senses after having deep thoughts. “Ok, I’ll prepare it.” Aly said smiling. Aria went back inside. Aly looked at Brett who’s still in dazed.
“Hey, let’s get inside.” Aly said. Brett stood up and embraced her. “Can we cancel our plans and celebrate the holidays with the kids?” Brett said tightening his embrace. “I can’t breathe.” Aly said. Brett smiled and loosened his hug. “That’s not a good idea. Eventhough, we already have each other, we still need to remember them.” Aly said, faced Brett and cupped his face. “It’s only a week. After that, we can go for a vacation with the kids.” Aly said. “But a week is too long, I’ll miss you terribly.” Brett said pouting his lips. Aly laughed. “Come on, promise, after that week, I’ll stay beside you everytime.” Aly said. “Promise?” Brett asked childishly. “Yes!” Aly said. “Pinky swear.” Brett said and Aly laughed.
December 24…
“Mom, hurry up, Mamu is calling again.” Tyler said. “Wait, I’m still arranging your clothes. Tell her it’s still early.” Aly said. “Hello, Mamu, wait for us a little.” Caden said on the other line. “Your mom is always late. She had plenty of time before to arrange things, why is it only now?” Mrs. Andrada said. “Mom, became busy at work because she’ll be out too long.” Caden said explaining. “Ok, tell your mom, we’re all here. We’ll be waiting for you at the tollgate.” Mrs. Andrada said. “Yes, Mamu. Bye!” Caden said and ended the call.
While Aly is starting her engine, her phone rang. “Hi!” Aly said. “What time will you leave?” Brett said. Aly felt sadness in Brett’s voice. “Hey, cheer up! We’re leaving now. You?” Aly said. “We’re already on the road.” Brett said lazily. “I’ll drive, I’ll call you when we arrive at the place.” Aly said. “Be careful. Drive slowly. Wear your seatbelts. Did you check your breaks?” Brett said that made Aly giggled. “Yes, boss!” Aly said. “Ok.” Brett said. “Aly?” Brett continued. “Yes?” Aly said. “I’ll miss you, I’m missing you right now.” Brett said.
Brett’s parents and siblings are hearing what he’s saying and they are smiling and shaking their heads. “This one is really head over heels to Aly.” They said inwardly.
“I’ll miss you too. I’ll see you in a week.” Aly said. “I love you!” Brett said and the people inside the minibus felt romantic excitement that made them looked at their partners and smiled meaningfully. “I love you too. Bye.” Aly said.
“Ready?” Aly said and looked at the rear-view mirror asking the kids. Tyler and Caden were wearing a teasing smile. “What?” Aly said blushing. “Let’s go, mom.” Tyler said. “I love you, mom.” Caden said with a teasing tone. Aly laughed. “I love you both.” Aly said before going out their gate and drove to their destination.
