- 54 A whole magic system for a trick
As I said previously, in order to open her soul’s defenses, I’ll have her grow a seed, which is an interface that transforms her power and what she wants to do with it into a spell.
I could just make prefabricated spells, but she’ll soon reach its limits and will grow suspicious if her list of spells is updated live.
So I just made a systemic interface.
Basically, I did an interface with unlimited possibilities. I have the control over it and she’s going to build that interface inside herself without understanding how it works.

For that interface, I decided to go with an elemental approach.
Well, it’s not your traditional elemental approach based on fire, water, air & earth, because there’s no way a species as advanced as them, even their kids, would believe it could work. It’s also very weak to make diversified spells.
Instead, I’ll do with these elements:
Straight Force, Alternative Force, Creation, Soul, Matter, Balance, World.
These modifiers:
Speed, Power, Delay, Duration, Range
These selectors:
Self, All, Filter, React
As for filters, these will be based on soul communication, so anything can be used as a filter, I just need to make some good backend in my seed to ensure it can handle any filter.
I’ll just explain to you how it works.
Straight Force is a force along a direction. It comes together with Soul, Matter, or both. It’s just basic movement. With that, you could, for example, move some matter along a straight line or send a straight soul wave.
Alternative Force is a force that moves in random directions before going back to its original position in a loop. Modifiers are pretty important to use this force correctly. With a high speed, you could create heat, and with high speed and high power, you could create a ball that destroys everything it touches.
Soul and Matter are used in combination with the two types of forces, so there’s not much to do.
Balance is used in combination with other elements, it’s actually how you implement modifiers in the spell, modifiers are its parameters. I could make modifiers and selectors work separately from the elements, but I need to create lore around that magic system, so I need to hide the subsystems a bit more. Also, by doing that, it means the spell can be cast in a single soul word, as that whole information is part of a single pack.
World is the equivalent of balance for selectors.
I don’t think I need to explain modifiers, but I’ll do give some details for selectors.
Selectors such as self and all aren’t hard to understand. Self targets the caster, all targets everything but the caster.
Filter is, however, a bit different. Given a soul word, it only takes into account things that match the soul word. That’s where the modifier range comes in. Even without filter, range ensures that the caster does not consume all his soul strength and vitality to scan the whole multiverse in search of every single thing in the universe. When setting the range, the caster knows if he can or not handle it and even how much of his soul strength the whole spell would take, and as such, any overconsumption can only be the will of the caster. I won’t set any limiter, I never know when I need a soldier to sacrifice itself.
And finally, React is a particular selector. It’s a selector that delays the spell until a particular trigger is detected in the range. The trigger is defined by a soul word, just like the filter. As one might want to be discreet, React has several modes, which are defined by the content of the soul word. Absorption mode tracks only things emitted by the trigger or triggers that are emissions, and as such is completely undetectable until it triggers, while Active mode scans regularly in the range until it detects the trigger.
This system should be complete enough to make anything you can imagine, with time and power on your hand. It’s also optimized for combat and simple tasks, making it very powerful.
Because it’s “outside” the system, I think I can even add later a way for my future soldiers to link spells with some smoothing between similar effects.
Now I made such a complete system, I have no regret. Except maybe I would have wanted to integrate a way to do curved trajectories with forces [1], but in the end, I think chaining several straight to adjust would work just as well. I’ll need to make an army later, I can’t have them grow too weak, forcing them to do non-straight spells manually will keep them mentally active and even make their thinking a tad faster than others of the same rank. After all, no one in this species trains, as a difference in rank makes such a bigger difference.
Anyway, in the kid’s dream, I send her two soul words in total. It’s proof of power.
After a study of their shopping habits with soul words, I noticed most of the center beings, including the elites, tend to have problems fusing concepts to reduce the number of soul words they send. By using only two soul words, she’s going to think of me as some kind of supreme elite.
In the first word, I’ll tell her the whole “situation” I made up, and ask her to answer whether she’s accepting it or not. Giving her this decision is going to boost her ego, even if in facts there’s no way to refuse something that only brings benefits.
In the second word, I’ll tell her how to cultivate the system and how to use it at different steps of cultivation. It might seem hard for anyone else to fuse two packs of such completely different information in a single soul word, but it just testifies of the difference of level in soul expertise between me in the other beings in this multiverse.
[1] I don’t even know myself if this is me or Moar talking at that part. I mean, the novel got so much more into magic theory and magic theory is something I personally like so much I might be projecting myself on Moar more than ever.
