Devoured Eccentric - 43 Natural Selection XI
“Alrighty! Now that that’s out of the way, we can finally make some progress.”
Nero jumped off from the still moving carriage and dissipated his mana cover, he couldn’t have the blood smeared all over him after all.
It was still too early for anybody to be awake in the Capital, not a single soul came in sight while Nero ran through the well-kept streets towards the palace.
His plan was simple and dangerous beyond belief.
He was going to sneak into the castle without using mana, wake up the Noble Captain and show off the most basic mana as if he had advanced not long ago. Hopefully, he would achieve Killian’s acknowledgement and protection.
The reason he couldn’t use any mana was because of Queen Maria, Nero had realised that her mana sensitivity covered at least the whole of the palace grounds and quite possibly even more.
‘Demons are such a great jump away from Slayers… I wonder what True Mana is like.’
If Adept mana, when used correctly, could make one invincible to bullets and weapons alike, what kind of abilities could True mana open up? Just thinking about it made Nero pumped for his future.
One might think it was a suicide mission for a boy to sneak into the most heavily guarded place in all of Haron Kingdom but this kid had more than a few tools up his sleeve.
He had previously scanned the whole of the palace from outside the grounds, nobody had a better blueprint of the area than him. Just that alone provided him with enough information to sneak past guards and move through blind spots.

Then, he had his Ripper, an extraordinarily made weapon strong enough to slice through any normal armour with ease.
Also not to mention, he had Nova and her programs for stealth movement and hardcore parkour abilities.
Nova had been rebooted by Nero while he was racing through the town soundlessly.
‘Oh goodness, you’re okay!’
‘Yeah, what can I say, I’d be god knows where without the chip…’
Nova analysed all the last stored information and sighed with relief. The one thing that she had deduced was that her user was too kind of a man, a characteristic that could lead to demise without even knowing it.
Finally, Nero had lost pretty much all sympathy to other beings. He had experienced first-hand of the demise it brought.
‘My user is amazing, almost nobody else would realise the cons of kindness and act upon it immediately. This event was nothing compared to losing loved ones from somebody trusted but he still came to the same conclusion.’
Nova was looking at Nero brain activity in awe of how fast Nero’s neurons became rewired to remove unnecessary kindness out of his thought process.
No ordinary being had such an ability.
Cruising at the speed of 20 mph, Nero took only a little while to have the palace gates in sight.
His black hooded figure swooshed over the entrance walls and into the palace grounds. Correlating his knowledge of the area to his view, Nero took the most discreet path into the palace, stealthily walking right past the guards’ camp.
He was quite sure that the Captain was staying in one of the luxury guest rooms, scanning the whole palace for a whole night had paid. The detail of the scan he had received was incredible.
Through a large hall with sculptures of previous kings and knights into the throne room itself and going into a hall to the left, Nero dodged almost every single guard, only having to hide against a skilled Hunter near the throne room.
As he was about to reach the luxury Guest room hall, he alerted a guard while walking past a communal bath.
The guard had seen a flicker in the corner of his eye while guarding the entrance of the guest hall.
“What was that?” Confused, the guard stumbled forward, evidently tired of doing nothing but sitting in one place.
Looking at the entrance of the bath area with pillars running across, Nero had hidden out of sight behind one of the pillars.
While checking behind each pillar, the guard grew cautious and confused. Right as he checked the pillar before the one Nero was behind, a small blade poked into the back of the guard’s head, exactly where the brain stem was.
Immediately after, Nero wrapped a towel around the man’s head to stop the little bleeding that came with the poke.
Nero dragged him into one of the cabinets to store one’s belongings when using the bath and stuffed him in there.
“That man was done and dusted.” Nero said quietly with a smile. Nova stayed quiet, the ruthlessness of Nero displayed how much he had suddenly changed.
He proceeded on with his journey, finally reaching the doorstep of the most luxurious room at the end of the hall. With a simple knock, he woke up the captain.
Opening the door slightly, he tiredly asked: “Who and What?”
And for a reply came something unexpected, a child’s meek voice: “Hello, I am Nero. The illegitimate royal.”
Startled, the man stepped back, leaving the door wide open for Nero to stumble in.
“I need your help and safety…” The voice continued, while the grown man got up calmly from the shock.
“The Queen wants to kill me…” Nero looked down, leaving the Captian to wonder why the boy would stumble to his door and announce something so unreal.
“What? Why are you coming to me? And why is the Queen, a Demon, going to be interested to kill you?” Killian was thoroughly confused and put on guard, not a single answer arrived in his mind.
Instead of speaking, Nero used Basic Mana crudely to form around his hand, purposely acting as if just that took a lot out of him. The red glow in Nero’s eyes guaranteed Killian that the boy had just awoken, at the stunning age of 7!
“I know you have a lot of questions but, for the time being, let me hide in your balloon, that’s what my master said I have to do… He’s left it up to me after getting me in here away from the Queen’s sight. I have to complete my master’s wish!” With a look of determination, Nero heroically portrayed himself to the Captain as a naive child who was given a goal by somebody he revered.
The captain just looked on, completely shocked out of his being for a while, before realising something and grinning eye-to-eye.
He stayed much calmer than any other who had witnessed his magical display.
“I understand, follow me. I’ll give you a place to stay in the Gas Giant.” The Captain tried to be calm but his excitement was undeniably visible.
‘This is my chance to become a Baron!’
