Devoured Eccentric - 55 Information overload
The use of a single continental-wide language made things far easier for Nero to integrate himself into the Mainland.
Norm’s language was executed by every human. At most, the uncivilised tribes of islands in the middle of nowhere had altered their version slightly. It was like the early stage of Latin in America, everybody had a grasp and understanding of it.
Due to this, Nero had no difficulty to approach others and ask for the general information of his whereabouts.
Asking a nice old lady, he had learned that the city he was in was called Kara. The nearby hunting grounds for Slayers was deeper in the city, unexpectedly.
Speaking of Slayers, Nero had only before seen two, The King and the Captain, as well sensed the faint aura of 4 others from Saestro who had invaded his transport Blimp. In just the span of the few hours Nero had spent in Kara City, he had sensed and even witnessed another 4 Slayers, not mentioning the dozens of Hunters littering every high-class corner.
‘It seems my hypothesis was accurate enough, the presence of Mana in its core form is far greater here than on Plumon, it seems like average people can become Hunters at the age of only 30! But there should be more to it than that, maybe some sort of meditation technique.’
Nero had already boarded an auto carriage while deep in thought. His total spending had already been extensive, just the Beast pill was enough for the average family to live with no concerns for months.
(AN; Nero only has 600C on him, not 1500 like previously mentioned. There was a miscalculation for the Magic stones he bought.)
‘I wonder why I can’t feel Beast mana, I can direct its flow in my body but mana sensitivity doesn’t seem to apply to it,’ Nero’s mind was usually as such, full of countless questions and analytical precdures, extrapolating with the already withheld knowledge.
‘And spatial magic huh…’
Nero woke up from a nap as soon as he felt the carriage stop, looking out the curtained window to see a large gate snuggly fitted into a massive stony wall. Patches of thick lime green were spotted in large quantities on the ancient looking bricks.
Paying the carriage driver a few Cardin, Nero hopped off to have a look at the gray-zone ahead.
Gray-zones were marked areas inside nation owned territories where Magical beasts thrived, only mages and Ki cultivators had access to these hunting grounds.
There were certain rules that were to be obliged by and followed throughout the time a mage spent in here.
The basic rule to be abided by was ‘no mage-killing’, or pvp in simpler words.
When proceeding inside, mages would be given rings with embedded stones that the mage had to be binded to, it absorbed a very minute amount of mana from the bonded mage, sending out a signal to let the ones in charge know that the mage’s location and status.
Of course there were some complications but ignoring them, it was a great idea implemented by the Magus Assembly, one of the greatest mage collaborative organisations on Rosaria.
Worldwide, during the Gregorian Era, the generation of the idea came from Verilia Star, one of the three Great Vice presidents that disappeared with Ebenfalls.
Nero quickly obliged with all the regulations and cruised through the processing at the gate, gaining yet another ring on his finger.
While entering, he’d witnessed many Hunters and Ki cultivators, dozens moving packs of odd numbers.
Nero was happy to see Ki cultivators for the first time, it made many things clear in his head.
‘They have a really weak mana signal coming from the whole of their bodies, so Ki is in the range of mana that Mages can sense.’
There were many other minute things he had witnessed that differed Ki cultivators from mages.
Silently, he walked through to the other side.
Instantly, the world around him changed, lush greenery filled with patches of purple shrubbery greeted his vision.
Further exploring inside, Nero spotted great variety of lizards, or what he assumed they were, scurrying from oak tree to oak tree.
His keen senses and mana sense kept him aware of his surroundings all the time, enabling him to dodge unnecessary trouble with the lower level beings.
He had been informed that as one explored the gray-zone further, greater level of Magical Beasts appeared.
In Mainland, most Gray-zones suitable for Hunters and Slayers had only a Rank 4 Reaper lording over, maybe two depending on the type of Beast.
Nero had directly bypassed the region for average beasts and Enraged beasts, moving with caution and stealth.
Beasts here were different compared to the ones in Plumon. Magical plants were numerous and became an attraction, even a sort of a collection, for the Beasts on Mainland, making small hierarchical communities that had a greater growth rate from absorbing the denser mana dispersed from the magical plants.
Nero had moved noiselessly for over an hour before he sensed a Rank 2 being.
Jumping on top of the tree closest to him, Nero made way to the direction of the Beast which soon came in sight.
Nero was cautious, he had not used any mana since entering the zone to make sure his location was unknown. The rings only absorbed the aura given off of a mage and Nero had the ability to control it, as soon as he bonded with it, he had stopped supplying it even a particle of mana.
As such, nobody had an idea of Nero’s whereabouts in the gray-zone.
Nero quickly and efficiently removed the ring and flung it as far as he could from his position, he knew that there was only a certain amount of time it could go before sending a strong signal for it to be picked up by a mage from the Magus assembly. The rings were quite useful and hard to make after all, the stones used to make it weren’t cheap.

Since the ring was no longer bonded to him, it emitted a shrill transmission, letting the radar worker know of its location and its bonded mage’s status. The status would obviously come off as ‘dead’ since it had received no mana from the mage.
With this, Nero was no longer bound by the rules, not having to adhere to the fact that he had give 30% of his hunting to the Assembly.
Not only that, he could even simply climb over the hundred meter tall walls without the ring giving away what his plan was.
In short, he was a free man in this gray-zone!
