Did Not Say Anything About My Feelings - Chapter 18. Eating Saliva
***
Wen Mian did not leave immediately. When he saw Lin Ye pull out the familiar lyrics paper from his pocket and ask Jiang Lian for advice, he felt a little touched, and could not help coming forward to join the discussion. However, when he sat next to the two of them, Wen Mian’s nose scrunched up a little, looking puzzled.
Jiang Lian and Lin Ye had the same scent.
Ignoring the fact that the scent smelled quite good, Wen Mian was a little unsure whether his nose was too sensitive, or if it was because they had been too close when looking for the watch just now, so one of them had the same scent as the other.
He did not think for very long.
From the corner of his eyes, he saw a camera gradually advancing. He suppressed the surprise in his eyes and focused on the lyrics.
The scene being filmed of the members of the same group helping each other happily made it such that when Ming Rang walked into the dorm room, he even wondered whether he had walked into the wrong dorm room for a moment.
Wen Mian handed over the task of being the MC to Ming Rang, following the staff’s instructions. The latter felt helpless. He had yet to even sit down on the sofa properly when he was forced to stand up again, bringing the staff behind him to visit the other dormitories.
The remaining three people continued to discuss singing techniques in Jiang Lian’s hostel room. After about half an hour later, Xia Dongchan also came over to look for them with wet hair.
The door was opened by Wen Mian, when he saw Jiang Lian conducting a lesson for Lin Ye, Xia Dongchan was a little stunned. He only returned to his senses when he heard Wen Mian’s questioning voice, “Ming Rang said that he borrowed my hairdryer, so he had me come over to retrieve it.”
Wen Mian turned his body sideways, Xia Dongchan walked into the dormitory and glanced at the familiar hairdryer randomly placed on the tabletop. He bent down and pulled out the plug, hugging the hairdryer in his arms before he looked at Lin Ye, who was on the sofa and concentrating on his singing, calling his name once.
Lin Ye’s voice paused, and only then did he notice Xia Dongchan’s presence. He looked surprised, “Why did you come over?”
“I’m here to take the hairdryer,” Xia Dongchan waved the object in his hand, “Are you going back now?”
When Lin Ye heard those words, he instinctively raised his head to look at the clock on the wall, “It’s already 9:30?” He got off the sofa and put on his shoes, “I’ll go back with you.”
After two minutes, the three of them left Jiang Lian’s room. The direction of their rooms were different, and Wen Mian turned to the right to return to his room while Lin Ye and Xia Dongchan turned left. Xia Dongchan walked very close to him, asking casually, “Isn’t Jiang Lian quite a good person?”
Lin Ye raised his eyebrows in confusion, “Why do you think that way?”
“He’s tutoring you one-on-one in singing, which is what you’re not good at,” Xia Dongchan was thinking, “I had originally thought that besides for Ming Rang, he’s cold to everyone, let alone tutoring other trainees in private.”
Lin Ye was quiet for a moment, then started to smile, “The first public performance is a group competition, although I think that he probably doesn’t want people like me, who are only good in some things and bad in everything else. However, since I’ve entered the group, for the sake of the entire Group A, I have to at least make my performance improve until I’m at least at the average level of the group so that I won’t drag the other five people down.”
Xia Dongchan thought for a moment and stopped asking more about it, “You’re right.”
The two of them entered their room one after the other and soon put the topic behind them.
The next morning, Lin Ye got up at seven. After wearing his clothes and finishing his shower, he went out to wake up his other teammates. Jiang Lian’s room was the closest to his room, but Lin Ye subconsciously skipped his room and decided to go to that dormitory last.
He first went to knock on the dormitory door of Wen Mian and Yan Changfei. Wen Mian had already consciously got out of bed, a toothbrush in his mouth, telling him in a muffled voice, “Yan Changfei woke up at six o’clock and went to the classroom.”
Lin Ye nodded his head, then went to wake Cheng Chi and Qi Huan up. Cheng Chi probably woke up only because he heard Lin Ye’s knocking. Cheng Chi put on a jacket, his eyes bleary as he came over to open the door. When Cheng Chi saw Lin Ye’s face, he smiled at him, “Is Captain here to wake us up?”
Lin Ye was still a little uncomfortable with this title. Lin Ye was stunned for a moment, before he smiled back at Cheng Chi, “Yes, are the two of you awake?”
“Qi Huan has not gotten up yet,” Cheng Chi said, holding onto the door frame and turning his head around to yell into his room, “Qi Huan, get up!”
After a short moment of silence, the sound of someone dressing came from inside the room. Lin Ye had yet to say, “Take your time, I’ll go and call Jiang Lian first” when he heard Qi Huan raise this voice and shout towards the door, “Cheng Chi, did you wear my pants by accident?”
Cheng Chi looked at his pants, muttering to himself as he walked into the room, “I didn’t wear the wrong one, right?”
Without the other blocking his view of the room, Lin Ye managed to see everything in the room clearly from his position at the doorway. After that, he realized that for the only two double rooms in the whole dormitory buildings, one was taken by Jiang Lian and Ming Rang, while the other was taken by Cheng Chi and Qi Huan.
He did not want to listen to the two of them discuss whether Cheng Chi had worn the wrong pants or not, so he simply took a step into the room and told Cheng Chi, “I’ll go and call Jiang Lian, see you in the training room.”
Cheng Chi turned his head around in response, “Alright. When you leave, please help us close the door.”
Lin Ye nodded his head and wanted to turn around to leave. However, when he glanced at the beds in the room, he hesitated for a moment.
There were a total of six beds and two of them were covered with sheets. However, only one of the beds was messy with traces of someone having slept in it. Although Lin Ye found it slightly strange, he did not think too much about it.
He knocked on the door of Jiang Lian’s room. The other had already woken up and gone to the canteen. He was currently sitting at his desk and eating his breakfast. Lin Ye’s stomach had not felt any hunger originally, but at that moment, it started to grumble in hunger. Lin Ye wanted to return to his hostel room and ask Xia Dongchan to head to the canteen to eat breakfast together.
However, Jiang Lian stopped him and said simply, “Have you had breakfast?”
Lin Ye looked at the untouched breakfast on the table before looking at Ming Rang, who was still lying on the upper bunk and sleeping, “Isn’t this for him?”
“I did buy it for him,” Jiang Lian raised his gaze casually, “He was talking to his online friend until late last night, he probably won’t wake up at this time.”
“Then I’ll eat all of it,” Lin Ye smiled at him and pulled the chair out, reaching out his hand to open the packaging of the breakfast.
Halfway through breakfast, Wen Mian came over as well.
He followed the scent of food and walked to the table, resting one of his hands on Lin Ye’s shoulder and leaning down to sniff, “It smells so good, I want to eat some too.”
When Lin Ye heard those words, he used his chopsticks to pick up a soup dumpling and fed it to the other directly. Wen Mian did not hesitate and bit on the tips of Lin Ye’s chopsticks, swallowing the soup dumpling.
(T/N: The soup dumpling is called a ‘Xiao Long Bao’ (小笼包)~)
Jiang Lian, who was sitting opposite Lin Ye glanced at the two of them, not saying a word as he took his cup and stood up to pour some water for himself.
Watching him leave his seat, Wen Mian whispered to Lin Ye, “I want to eat Jiang Lian’s dumplings.”
Lin Ye said, “You can eat them.”
“I won’t dare to ask Jiang Lian to feed me,” He sighed in a low voice and urged Lin Ye, “Help me grab one.”
In the past, when they ate takeaway in the company, everyone used the same pair of chopsticks and fed each other. He did not think much about it and stood up to use the chopsticks that Jiang Lian had used to eat to pick up a dumpling, wanting to feed it to Wen Mian.
However, the latter took a sudden step back and desperately tried to give him a look.
Lin Ye was stunned and slowly noticed that Jiang Lian had already turned around and walked back holding a water cup.
He was in a dilemma. He did not know if he should feed him or not, so he decided to just eat it himself.
Jiang Lian put down the cup in his hand, frowned, and asked him, “Did you use my chopsticks?”
He had not expected that the other would be unhappy. Lin Ye hesitated, “You’re particular about cleanliness?”
“No,” Jiang Lian denied, but his tone was very detached, “But I don’t like eating other people’s saliva.”
Lin Ye looked guilty, looking for a new pair of chopsticks, and passed it to Jiang Lian, “I’m sorry, I’ll take note of that in the future.”
Wen Mian stood behind him, his expression unchanged but he was thinking to himself that he might have thought too much concerning the matter yesterday night.
(T/N: Not sure how to properly phrase this, but he’s basically saying that he had overreacted/an overactive imagination concerning what had happened yesterday (the sofa incident between Jiang Lian and Lin Ye).)
He intended to become friends with Lin Ye, but Jiang Lian’s background and status were known to the rest of the ninety-nine trainees. If the two of them really had something going on between them, he definitely did not want to get too close to Lin Ye and offend Jiang Lian, causing him to lose a debut position for no reason.
