Did Not Say Anything About My Feelings - Chapter 19. Shower Gel
***
In the afternoon, when they were practicing their dance in the classroom, the dance teacher came to give a teaching session by breaking down the dance and analyzing the movements. The two groups performing ‘Eye of the Typhoon’ were mixed together and they stood anywhere they wanted. While they were learning their dance, they chatted with each other and became friends quickly.
Two hours later, the dance teacher told them to stop and take a break. The trainees sat down on the spot, panting, throwing their head back to take large gulps of water and quench their thirst.
After the dance teacher summarized everyone’s progress in a few sentences, the dance teacher called Lin Ye’s name and said, “Today when I came to give you guys a class, the one that made me most surprised was Lin Ye. Perhaps because you didn’t do well in the initial rating, so I didn’t have a deep impression of you. I didn’t expect that your dancing skills were so good.”
Lin Ye raised his hand to wipe away the sweat on his forehead, trying to make his breathing calm down a little, “Thank you, teacher.”
Wen Mian raised his eyebrows at Lin Ye and stood up with a smile to ask, “Teacher, how was my performance?”
The teacher smiled mildly, “Wen Mian has always been quite steady in terms of singing and dancing, but if I remember correctly, your initial rating wasn’t very good either, right?”
When Wen Mian heard those words, he said bitterly, “I didn’t choose the correct performance track for the initial rating. Furthermore, the groupmates I performed with were temporary teams; we did not practice together before the performance.”
The teacher nodded, “It’s indeed very good that you were able to jump from Class D to Class A within a few short days. Lin Ye, you need to work hard too.”
Lin Ye said, “Alright, teacher.”
Wen Mian smiled and asked, “Teacher, comparing me and Lin Ye, who dances better?”
The dance teacher instantly smiled, “You’re both quite good.”
But Wen Mian did not want that answer, “I think I dance as well as Lin Ye.”
Lin Ye sat on the ground and glanced at him on hearing those words, saying lazily, “You’re a vocal and not a dancer, it’s very normal for me to dance better than you.”
The dance teacher had yet to speak when the students that were sitting by the side got worked up and wanted to cause drama as they yelled, “The two of you don’t have the final say as to who dances better. We want a live battle!”
Ming Rang directly snapped his fingers towards the staff in the classroom, “Teacher, please help us play a random song.”
(T/N: ‘Teacher’ does not necessarily mean that the person is a teacher. In Chinese, they use ‘teacher’ to address people respectfully. Sort of like a Sir/Madam?)
The sounds of the yells from the trainees in the room instantly reached their peak.
Lin Ye was made to enter a dance battle with Wen Mian, the two of them would take turns, and their movements were precise, there seemed to be crackling sparks each time they raised their arms and legs.
But Ming Rang teasingly changed the random dance music to the theme song of a show that formed female idol groups.
There was an obvious slowing down to their movements. Wen Mian seemed to be unable to accept dancing to this song and slowed down his movements while Lin Ye continued to move his four limbs as smoothly as a fish in water. He has learned female idol group dances while he was a trainee in his company.
The body’s memory was often faster than the command issued by the brain. He danced to the beat like it was a conditioned reflex, bending his waist, raising his face slightly. He ran his fingertips through the ends of his hair and stroked the back of his neck, bringing in his shoulders and expanding his shoulders, his waist completely straight. He danced with large movements and did a body wave.
It was a seamless transition from charming to sexy.
The trainees who had been whistling and watching the dance-off excitedly widened their eyes at that moment. The yells that they could not hold back were so loud that they almost overturned the ceiling of the classroom.
If it was not for Lin Ye’s obviously handsome male face, some young and energetic trainees might be unable to control their physiological reactions right then.
The theme song suddenly stopped. Jiang Lian crossed his arms across his chest as he stood by the speakers, his face cold, “Are you here to practice your dance or watch a performance?”
The trainees all fell silent, feeling guilty.
Lin Ye breathed out slowly, feeling hot all over as he sat down, one hand pulling on his collar to shake it, hoping that it would help him cool down, while another hand moved his bangs that were wet from sweat. However, he did not look towards Jiang Lian the whole time.
He had impulsively danced a female idol group dance. For some reason, this made him a little embarrassed to look at Jiang Lian.
The dance teacher clapped to remind everyone, “After everyone is done resting, get up and continue practicing. We can’t relax when practicing dance.”
All of the trainees stood up from the floor one after another.
Someone shouted out, “Teacher, who do you think danced better between Lin Ye and Wen Mian?”
The dance teacher looked pleased, “Both of them danced very well.”
That person then looked towards Jiang Lian and Ming Rang, “Can the two centres give your opinion?”
Ming Rang laughed, “Me? I’ll vote for Lin Ye,” He touched his jaw, his words having a hidden meaning, “I feel that I enjoyed watching Lin Ye’s dance more.”
After he said that, he raised this elbow and poked the person next to him, his eyes full of interest, “What do you think?”
Jiang Lian paused.
Everyone turned their gazes towards him. Even Lin Ye, who was sitting down without moving could not help but raise his gaze to look towards Lin Ye. Although he did not want to admit it, Lin Ye realized that he was anticipating Jiang Lian’s response.
With all the trainees’ eyes on him, Jiang Lian opened his mouth, his face expressionless, “For me, it’ll be Wen Mian.”
Lin Ye lowered his head in disappointment.
At that moment, even Wen Mian himself stood up, feeling a little embarrassed, “Actually, I feel that Lin Ye danced better than me. I still need to put some effort into learning dancing.”
However, his words did not make Lin Ye happy. He told himself that Jiang Lian had just randomly said those words, that he did not need to take it to heart.
However, after one removed the calm surface, what he was left with was the resentment in his heart.
Even Lin Ye himself did not understand why he cared so much about what Jiang Lian thought of him.
Lin Ye’s mood was bad until after lunch. He and Xia Dongchan returned to their hostel to take an afternoon nap. Xia Dongchan talked about random matters concerning the other trainees but Lin Ye was in a bad mood the whole time. Even his occasional responses were obviously perfunctory.
During his afternoon nap, he kept tossing and turning, unable to sleep. He then decided to just get dressed and go to the practice room. When he walked past Jiang Lian’s dorm room, although he wanted to go and knock on it the whole time, he managed to stop himself.
The practice room during their afternoon break was empty, even Yan Changfei, who was the most hardworking in terms of practicing was not there. Lin Ye wanted to switch on the speakers but saw that the door connected to the small classroom was slightly open.
After the small classroom was opened to the trainees, aside from when the members of the different groups went in to have their meetings and the door was tightly closed, the rest of the time, the door would be open.
He stood there and glanced at the curtains that had been drawn in the small classroom. He hesitated for a moment, but walked over in the end, quietly pushing the door open a little more.
There was no light in the classroom, the camera that had only been switched on recently was covered completely by a jacket. Jiang Lian’s head was on a magazine, a black baseball hat covering his face as he lay in the small and dark classroom, sleeping.
Slowly, Lin Ye felt an uncomfortable feeling in his heart.
He pushed the door and walked in, kneeling to sit by Jiang Lian’s side, raising his hand to remove the baseball hat covering Jiang Lian’s face.
The person who was closing his eyes to rest was probably not truly asleep because he suddenly opened his eyes to look at Lin Ye.
Their eyes met and Lin Ye was caught off guard. He looked into the depths of Jiang Lian’s pupils and suddenly did not know what to say.
Lin Ye returned to his senses after a moment and looked away, his hand still holding the baseball hat he had taken from Jiang Lian’s face. He lowered his voice and said, “Were you serious?”
Jiang Lian’s tone was casual, “What are you talking about?”
He was quiet for a long time before his gaze returned to Jiang Lian’s face, his expression becoming complex, “Do you really think that Wen Mian’s dancing was better than mine?”
Jiang Lian did not answer and simply asked, “Is my opinion very important?”
Lin Ye’s expression was full of shock, “What?”
Jiang Lian repeated the question, “To you, is my opinion very important?”
Naturally, Lin Ye could not tell him the truth. He did not want to admit that he was such a petty person. He smiled uncaringly, “That’s right, it’s actually not that important.”
He subconsciously patted the palm of his hand., wanting to stand up.
However, Jiang Lian grabbed his wrist and dragged him back onto the floor.
Lin Ye turned his head back, using his gaze to ask Jiang Lian what else he wanted.
Jiang Lian’s left hand was still clasping onto his wrist, his right hand on the ground to allow himself to sit up, “Do you want to hear the truth?”
Lin Ye’s expression was one of suspicion, he pursed his lips and did not say a word.
Jiang Lian let go of his hand, “Come over here.”
The truth was too tempting and Lin Ye struggled for a while before he involuntarily leaned towards Jiang Lian.
Jiang Lian said, “Come closer.”
Lin Ye moved over a little again.
Jiang Lian raised his hand to press on the back of Lin Ye’s neck, saying in a low voice, “You—“
He did not continue.
Lin Ye was so anxious that he could not help turning to look at him.
He saw that in the floor-length mirror, Jiang Lian was squinting his eyes as he sniffed at his neck.
Lin Ye’s heart missed a beat, remembering sweating during dance practice in the morning. He stared directly at Jiang Lian in the mirror, a little tense.
The Jiang Lian in the mirror said, “Very fragrant.”
Lin Ye had not expected it, his expression surprised, he asked, “What?”
Jiang Lian curved his lips, his expression one of carelessness, “My shower gel. It is very fragrant.”
