- Chapter 36. Additional Practice At Night
The training on the first day they teamed up was not intense. The leader, Qiu Yi, announced the end of their meeting, “Let’s end here, everyone can go back, shower, and take a good break. We’ll meet in the classroom tomorrow morning at eight.
His teammates slowly put on their coats and left. Lin Ye and Xia Dongchan met in the hallway and went to another classroom to look for Cheng Chi and Qi Huan.
They had yet to enter the classroom when they heard the sounds of an argument, Lin Ye and Xia Dongchan stood at the doorway and listened for a moment before they realized that the trainees inside were arguing because of the center position.
Lin Ye pushed the door open and entered first, happening to see Cheng Chi who had a leader badge pinned to his chest stood among his teammates and said, “Qi Huan’s center position was chosen by all of us together. Even if you aren’t happy with it, you can’t change the result.”
Zhao Yisheng, whose back was to the doorway sneered, “Who here doesn’t know that you have a good relationship with him?”
Cheng Chi calmly said, “No matter how good my relationship is with Qi Huan is, I can only give him one vote. The remaining five votes were all made by the others out of their own will, it has nothing to do with me.”
Zhao Jixiang’s expression was gloomy as he did not say a word.
Xia Dongchan timely stepped forward to interrupt, “Has your group ended your meeting? If you’re done, let’s go eat.”
The trainees in the middle of the classroom turned their heads around when they heard him speak. Cheng Chi nodded his head at Xia Dongchan, looking back at the other people, “There are no other objections to the center position, right?”
The teammates shook their heads one by one.
Cheng Chi and the others agreed on a time to gather the next morning and led Qi Huan towards Lin Ye and Xia Dongchan who were standing by the door.
Zhao Yisheng, who was standing at his original spot flitted across Lin Ye and Xia Dongchan’s face. Then, he snorted coldly and said in a voice that was neither loud nor soft, “Birds of a feather flock together.”
“You couldn’t get the center position and are getting angry at others,” Xia Dongchan was smiling widely, “Trash.”
Zhao Yisheng was livid.
The four of them walked out of the training building. Only then did Qi Huan ask Xia Dongchan, “The two of you know him?”
Xia Dongchan nodded and said, “He was our old roommate. We have a very bad relationship. Since the two of you are in the same group as him, you need to mind him talking behind your back.”
Qi Huan’s expression was uncaring, “He can talk all he wants, I got the center position with my own ability, I’m not worried about him talking.”
The four of them quickly changed the topic, no longer bringing up this matter.
After they finished eating, they returned to their hostel room. Their other two teammates had yet to return. The four of them decided the showering order by playing a scissors-paper-stone game. Lin Ye’s luck was good and won against the other three that put out scissors in the first round with a stone. After that, Lin Ye went to shower first.
After the remaining three people decided the order, they went off to settle their matters. Not long after Lin Ye went into the shower, the three of them heard someone knock on the door.
Xia Dongchan, who was closest to the door, put down the Rubik’s cube in his hand and got up to open the door. He saw Jiang Lian standing outside and quickly responded, “Are you looking for Lin Ye?”
Jiang Lian gave a concise ‘yep’.
Xia Dongchan took a step backward and made way for him, “He’s showering, do you want to come in and wait?”
“I won’t come in,” Jiang Lian’s expression was mild, “Please tell him for me to go back to the classroom at eight p.m. for extra practice.”
Xia Dongchan said, “Alright.”
When the other left, he closed the door and walked to the door of the bathroom to call Lin Ye’s name.
Lin Ye had already switched off the showerhead and put on his clothes. When Lin Ye heard him, he raised his head and asked, “What’s the matter?”
“Jiang Lian came over just now,” Xia Dongchan informed him through the shower door, “He had me relay the information to you that you have to return to the classroom for additional practice at eight.”
Lin Ye’s movements froze and he asked back instinctively, “Additional practice?”
Xia Dongchan, who was outside the bathroom did not answer. On the other hand, Qi Huan rushed over and said, his tone exaggerated, “Lin Ye, is your group so hardworking? We’ve only just split up into groups today and you already have additional practice at night?”
Lin Ye could only put on his uniform again, carrying his towel and pajamas as he pushed the door and came out. His face, which had water droplets on it showed his confusion, “Didn’t they say that we won’t be practicing tonight? Why is there additional practice now?”
“I don’t know,” Qi Huan shrugged and splayed out his hands, his expression one of regret, “Looks like your shower was for nothing.”
Lin Ye’s shower had indeed been for nothing. If he had to go to the classroom to practice an hour later, he would be sweating a lot. If Jiang Lian had come slightly earlier, or if he had entered the shower a little later, it would probably have saved him from the fate of taking an additional shower. He did not know whether he could be considered lucky or not for winning the scissors-paper-stone game.
He went to the balcony and hung up his tower and underwear before he went back into the room. Xia Dongchan had already entered the shower and Lin Ye lay on the sofa, picking up the Rubik’s cube that Xia Dongchan had solved halfway, starting to play with it.
When it was close to eight, Lin Ye, who was sleepily lying on the couch, opened his eyes and sat up, putting on his jacket as he opened the door and walked out.
When he raised his head, he saw a light coming from the gap underneath the door of the room that was opposite to his. Naturally, he thought that Jiang Lian and Ming Rang had yet to leave. He walked up to the door and knocked on it.
The knocking sound resounded through the quiet hallway a few times, but no one came to open the door. Lin Ye did not suspect anything and simply assumed that the two of them had been careless, forgetting to switch off the light before they left. He lowered his hand and turned around to walk towards the stairway.
On the way there, he did not meet many trainees. When he reached the training building, he raised his head and looked at the quiet and dark building.
From his position below the building, the classrooms that were facing the road he was on were all dark. Class A’s classroom was on the other side of the building, and he could not see it from outside the building.
Lin Ye turned away, lowering his head as he walked into the building. He went up several floors but did not hear any music coming from inside the room. It was the first day after they split up into groups. All the trainees had already left the classroom, returning to their hostel rooms to shower and rest.
Lin Ye did not think much of it, walking through the long and empty hallway as he headed in the direction of Class A’s classroom. When he reached the classroom’s location based on what he remembered, he finally realized that something was wrong.
It was not different from the other classrooms. Class A’s classroom was also completely in the dark. There was no light in the classroom, and there were no movements inside.
After he had confirmed over and over again that he did not go to the wrong place, Lin Ye stood outside the classroom, lowering his gaze to wonder if Xia Dongchan or he had remembered the wrong training time, or if this was just a prank.
Quickly, he denied all his assumptions. Because when he raised his hand to push the door, he realized that the back door had been locked from inside. Lin Ye walked to the front door, it was also locked from inside.
The first thought that appeared in his mind was that there were people in the classroom, doing the thing that Cheng Chi and Qi Huan had done in the classroom before. He did not have any interest in invading others’ privacy. Lin Ye breathed quietly and stepped lightly, turning around to walk in the direction that he came from.
However, when he passed by the glass window, he noticed a weak light from the corner of his eye. Lin Ye instinctively stopped walking and looked over. He immediately confirmed with zero hesitation that the small bit of light was coming from the window that the small classroom shared with the large classroom.
Lin Ye narrowed his eyes and looked at it for a moment. Then, he walked towards the corridor that led to the back door of the small classroom.
When he walked to the small classroom door, the light in the classroom had suddenly disappeared. It was like the faint light that suddenly lit up in the dark was only to lead him over.
Lin Ye walked forward and reached out to lightly push the door. The classroom door that had not been locked was opened by a small crack. Lin Ye froze, he had a feeling that someone was waiting for him inside.
His expression was calm, not showing any anxiousness for the future. He gradually increased the force he was using and pushed the door open halfway. Then, he raised his leg and stepped into the pitch-dark room.
The next second, the door was closed behind him and there was the sound of the lock turning. Lin Ye turned around and looked back, but was pulled towards the door by the person and pressed to the wall next to the door.
In the darkness, he could not see anything. One hand pulled at his down feather jacket and pressed into the concave area below his collarbone, rubbing it. At the same time, Jiang Lian’s cold and nice-sounding voice could be heard by his ear, “You’re late.”
Lin Ye had yet to answer when the other grabbed his hand. Lin Ye’s fingers, which had originally been curled into a fist, were pried apart by Jiang Lian, and Jiang Lian placed two things in Lin Ye’s palm.
Lin Ye was stunned, holding onto the two things and touching them. He was able to visualize the image slowly. He could feel the thin round shape through the packaging of one of the items, and the other was a tube-like thing like a facial cleanser.
It went without saying what those two items were.
Lin Ye’s mouth felt dry.
