Did Not Say Anything About My Feelings - Chapter 41. Is A Man
For the next two days, they were practicing their dance in the classroom.
At night, before turning off the lights and going to sleep the six people in their hostel room held a bedtime meeting. The trainees had somehow started to talk about the supernatural events they had experienced when they were young or that they had heard of.
Qi Huan was the most scared when it came to talking about such supernatural events. He raised his voice and stopped them, “Stop stop, if you guys continue talking, I won’t be able to sleep tonight.”
Cheng Chi helped him change the topic at the appropriate time, “Did everyone hear about the activity on Arbor Day?”
Lin Ye said, “Nope, what’s that?”
“We got this piece of information from other people,” Cheng Chi added, “I heard that on Arbor day, the production team will organize a picnic and tree planting activity for us at Huan Shan park on Arbor Day.”
“Picnic?” Xia Dongchan showed an interested expression, “The last time I had a picnic, it was when I was still in primary school.”
Qi Huan echoed, “Me too.”
Lin Ye calculated, “Isn’t Arbor Day coming soon?”
The others seemed to come to a realization and started to talk to each other, excitedly discussing what to prepare for the picnic.
Lin Ye was quite amused, “It hasn’t even been confirmed.”
The excitement on Qi Huan’s face remained unabated, “If the production team doesn’t bring us for a picnic on Arbor Day, I’ll make a trip down by myself in the future.”
However, on the day before Arbor day, the staff from the production team had gathered all the trainees, informing everyone about the schedule for the next day, which involved planting trees and a picnic, as well as how they had to dress in a uniformed manner when they went out. They added that the trainees had to buy the food for the picnic beforehand.
Among the around eighty trainees, most of them were already adults at around twenty years old. While they were muttering that this felt like some ‘collective springtime outing of primary school children’, they could not help showing happiness in their gazes and smiles.
That day, the practice for all the groups ended early and everyone rushed to the convenience store in the base, buying out all the snacks and drinks on the shelves in the store.
The fans that were waiting outside the metal gates for trainees to shop at the convenience store were clicking their camera shutters continuously, it was like they were celebrating the new year.
The schedule for the Arbor Day events was based around the groups for the second public performance and the trainees moved about with their own groupmates.
When the eight people from ‘Jungle Moonlight’ rushed out of the classroom, they realized that the convenience store was already extremely crowded and changed their plan immediately. The leader, Qiu Yi brought three people to rush in and get the goods, while the rest waited outside the convenience store.
The remaining four people waited outside.
Twenty minutes later, the team members, with Qiu Yi leading them, carried out five heavy and large bags and walked out of the convenience store. The eight of them split the job of carrying the heavy bags back.
Jiang Lian, Ming Rang, and Qiu Yi carried a bag each while the remaining two bags were carried by two separate pairs. Lin Ye was the furthest behind and when it was his turn to get a bag, the job had already been split and there were no bags left for him to carry.
He was the only one not carrying anything. Lin Ye rubbed the tip of his nose and told Jiang Lian and the other two, “Which one of you needs my help?”
Jiang Lian glanced at him and removed his jacket, tossing it into Lin Ye’s arms, “Help me hold my clothes.”
Lin Ye carried his clothes, turning to look at Ming Rang and Qiu Yi, “What about you two?”
The two of them carried the bags in their hands easily, shaking their head at him. Ming Rang even teased, “Jiang Lian, why don’t you pass him some other stuff to carry.”
Jiang Lian stopped when he heard those words, opening the shopping bag in his hands and taking a look. Then, he acted like an adult pacifying a kid, taking out a pack of chips and passing it to Lin Ye, “Eat it.” After he said that, he even raised an eyebrow, casually adding, “Don’t get the oil on my clothes.”
Lin Ye was speechless.
The eight of them walked past the ramp outside the convenience store and turned into a slightly narrower path, which would pass by the side gate.
Although the trainees were very close to each other and their clothes were basically the same, the fans outside the metal gate tried their best to differentiate their geges and didis, hurriedly pointing their large cameras at them, trying their best to call out their gege and didis’ names
(T/N: I’m using fans for this portion, but the fans here are fans that run fansites, so they are taking photos to upload on their fan sites for the other fans)
Jiang Lian’s fans’ had clear voices, “Jiang Lian—Turn your head around—Turn your head around—”
Ming Rang’s fans did not lose in comparison, “Ming Rang—Can you walk slowly—I’m just a pitiful woman—Can you walk slowly please—”
Qiu Yi’s fans were also not giving in, “Qiu Yi—My precious son—I have not photographed your face for two days—please look at your mom—”
In the overlapping shouts, Lin Ye seemed to have heard his name too.
He thought that it was a hallucination.
But Qiu Yi placed his arm that was not holding anything around Lin Ye’s shoulder, “Turn around. The production team only said that we aren’t allowed to talk to them, but they didn’t say anything about turning around.”
Lin Ye raised his head, stunned, seeing Qiu Yi’s mouth open and close, but he had not understood what was going on just yet. It was only two seconds later when the other’s voice seemed to break through his shackles and poured into his ears like a slow tide.
So it wasn’t a hallucination.
He could not help turning around and glancing at the fans that were outside the metal gates. Although he could not see their faces clearly, and could not tell who was yelling his name, he could not help smiling, stopping where he was, and waving at the young girls that were gathered outside the metal door.
The fan that was calling his name reached out her arm and waved back in satisfaction. Suddenly, she stopped waving, and seemed to come to a realization, “Lin Ye—Although the geges dote on you– And don’t let you carry anything—But you can’t become spoilt because of that—You need to help your geges do things—”
(T/N: Okay so the idea here is the gege (older brother) and didi (younger brother) dynamic is something they like a lot in this kind of shows lol kind of like the maknae stuff I guess in kpop.)
Lin Ye’s lips twitched, not knowing when he became the so-called “doted didi”. They had already walked further away, but the trainees who could barely hear those words were laughing like crazy.
At the side gate, the young girl that had yelled those words to Lin Ye put down the camera in her hand, raising her eyebrows to look at her fellow fans, “How is he? My didi looks better in person than in the photos the production team publishes right? Trust me, if you become his fan, you definitely won’t lose out.”
“It’s true that he’s good-looking. Thankfully, during the ranking announcements, he was saved by my ge. Otherwise, it’ll be another pretty didi that ends up eliminated with zero screentime,” Jiang Lian’s fansite owner nodded her head and changed the topic, “But look at my ge. It’s such a heavy bag of items but he’s able to use a single hand to hold it for such a long time. He didn’t even need to swap the bag to his other hand,” The fan held her camera, her voice excited, “My ge is a man and everyone knows!”
(T/N: The exact translation here is “is a man”, but you can think of it as ‘manly’(?). Also, note that “ge” and “gege” basically mean the same thing here)
Ming Rang’s fan said, “My ge is also a man!”
Qiu Yi’s fan said, “My son is also a man!”
Lin Ye’s fan could only lower her head to look at her camera, seeing the clothes and chips Lin Ye was holding in the photo and looking at the heavy shopping bags that the others were carrying. She then decided to shut her mouth.
The next moment, a fan of someone else moved closer to her, looking at the photo Lin Ye’s fan too. She hesitantly opened her mouth, “Doesn’t anyone want to make a guess about whose coat Lin Ye is hugging in his arms like it’s a treasure?”
