- Chapter 46. I Understand Everything
Lin Ye was stunned but did not turn around to respond to the fan that was shouting. On the other hand, Qiu Yi lifted his arm to rest it on Lin Ye’s shoulders, clicking his tongue as he lamented, “The fans nowadays are truly brilliant. All of them have a magnifying glass.”
Lin Ye smiled in response.
The trainees started to queue up to enter. Because of safety issues, the fans were stopped outside, they needed to wait for ten minutes before they could enter.
The in-charge brought everyone to walk towards the new planting site deep in the park. The staff had already brought the tree saplings over, and the shovels to dig up soil had been placed out properly alongside the watering cans.
Every group needed to plant four tree saplings. There happened to be eight people in Lin Ye’s groups, so they split up into two groups internally, each of the two groups would be in charge of planting two tree saplings.
Everyone put down their backpacks, agreeing to use a game to decide the grouping. The fans outside the barricade had slowly begun to arrive, raising their cameras and phones, surrounding the planting area without leaving any gaps.
Thankfully, everyone was orderly and no fans tried to get across the barricade to get close to the trainees.
Jiang Lian got close to Lin Ye, the cameras filming them, and said, “The back of your hand.”
(T/N: Not super sure if this game exists everywhere, but basically, you either put out the back of your hand or the palm of your hand and that’s used to decide your grouping, etc.)
Lin Ye smiled.
The two groups that had been formed in the end were such that Lin Ye, Jiang Lian, Ming Rang, and Qiu Yi were in the same team, while the remaining four trainees were in another team.
The few of them picked up the shovels and started to dig in four different places. Lin Ye and Qiu Yi then worked together to pick up the saplings that were about half their height and placed them in the hole, while Jiang Lian and Ming Rang used the shovels to add soil on top of the roots.
After they filled up the hole with soil, the last segment was the watering segment. Ming Rang went to pick up the watering cans that had already been filled and the remaining three of them stayed where they were and waited for him.
Li Yuan, who was in charge of the tree planting next to them called out Jiang Lian’s name. Although he did not understand why there had been a sudden increase in Jiang Lian’s and his CP fans, after thinking about it, he thought that this was a great opportunity to gain fans.
When Jiang Lian heard his name being called, he turned his head to the side, lowering his gaze and glancing at Li Yuan, but not taking the initiative to say anything.
Li Yuan raised his face slightly, showing a troubled expression to the other under the sunlight, “For some reason, the sapling our group has can’t seem to stay up steadily, can you help us take a look?”
Jiang Lian nodded, and Li Yuan’s smile brightened even more. Then, Jiang Lian turned around to pull Qiu Yi, who was standing next to him over, “He’s the one who did most of the work in our group, you can ask him to help you take a look.”
Qi Yuan’s smile stiffened. Then, it quickly returned to its natural state. He walked over to stand in front of Qiu Yi, his gaze was calm, “Can you help me take a look?”
Although Qiu Yi was a very direct person, he was not dumb. He knew that Qi Yuan was here to look for Jiang Lian. He carefully took a large step back, his expression not changing as he threw the responsibility to someone else, “I’m not very familiar with this too, how about you wait for Ming Rang to come back and ask him?”
Qi Yuan’s smile completely vanished. However, because of the fans that were taking photos outside the barricade, he did not say anything in the end. He pressed the hat on his head down and walked back.
What the few of them did not know was that Qi Yuan and Qiu Yi’s interaction video had quickly been uploaded on Weibo by other fans. It had been reposted more than a thousand times, and some fans had made the scene of Qiu Yi backing away into a gif, adding on four large words at the bottom—“Stay away from me”.
That sticker instantly became the most used sticker among the fans.
Lin Ye’s group was the group that finished the task the fastest. Lin Ye put down the shovel, following behind Jiang Lian and as he walked to the sink to wash his hands, he turned his head around to take a look. Quite a lot of people were still bent over and working on their trees.
After Jiang Lian finished washing his hands, he moved away from the sink and stood by the sink to wait for Lin Ye. The fans who had followed them over to take photos of Jiang Lian were clicking their cameras quickly, not even resting a second.
Lin Ye bent down slightly towards the sink that was only half his height, listening to the shutter sounds that did not belong to him. Then, he switched on the tap, the transparent water flowing out slowly from the tap. It was slightly cool from the early-spring temperature.
He stretched his two hands out to run them under the water. While he was washing his hands, he raised his head to take a look at the sky. Suddenly, he realized that it was already early spring, and it was time for him to remove his down jacket.
After he finished washing away the mud on his hands, Lin Ye switched off the tap and turned around, “Let’s go.”
Jiang Lian took two steps forward, glancing at Lin Ye’s face from the side of his gaze. Then, he suddenly stopped walking.
Lin Ye suddenly stopped, looking at Jiang Lian and raising his brows in confusion, “What’s the matter?”
Jiang Lian’s gaze was fixed on Lin Ye’s face, then, he slowly raised the corners of his lips.
There was the sound of fans screaming from outside the barricade. After that, there was the sound of continuous clicking sounds.
Lin Ye felt that something was wrong, his expression was hesitant, “Is there something on my face?”
Jiang Lian said, “Yes.”
Lin Ye reached out to touch his face but did not feel anything on his face.
He did not think more about it, his tone natural as he asked Jiang Lian, “Did you bring your phone?”
Jiang Lian said, “I brought it.”
Lin Ye nodded. Thinking about what Jiang Lian said last time about having him take the phone himself, he did not hesitate as he took a step forward, reaching his hand into Jiang Lian’s pocket to find his phone.
Jiang Lian did not move, allowing Lin Ye to reach his two hands into Jiang Lian’s jacket pockets and touch around.
However, the pockets were empty and Lin Ye retracted his hands, “Where’s your phone?”
“In my bag,” Jiang Lian said simply, “You have some dirt on your chin.”
Lin Ye frowned slightly, “Did you bring tissue paper?”
Jiang Lian smiled slightly, “Haven’t you already looked through my pockets?”
Only then did Lin Ye realize and instinctively raise his hand to rub it away.
Jiang Lian reached out to hold Lin Ye’s jaw before Lin Ye managed to do so, his finger lightly wiping Lin Ye’s skin, helping Lin Ye get rid of the mud on his jaw.
Lin Ye had been caught by surprise and froze.
When the fans saw this, even Jiang Lian’s solo fans almost lost their grasp on their cameras. Among the fans that were outside the barricade, there was a round-faced girl who sucked in a deep breath.
The two people involved did not hear it, but the fans that were standing next to the round-faced girl heard it. They instantly turned around and questioned in a high voice, “Aren’t you a solo fan?”
(T/N: Like I guess they’re quite strict about the ‘solo fans’ and the ‘CP fans’ distinction among fans?)
As soon as the other asked that, the young girls that had originally been focused on looking at their gege turned around, their gazes landing on the round-faced girl’s face.
The round-faced girl’s expression was awkward. She instantly showed her position on Jiang Lian’s fansite and quickly explained, “I’m a solo fan, of course, I’m a solo fan.”
The fans expressions slowly warmed up and their gaze landed on their gege again.
The round-faced girl relaxed. Then, like the other fans, she once again pointed her camera at the spot Jiang Lian was at. However this time, she had slightly moved the focus of the camera from Jiang Lian’s body to the place between the two of them.
After he finished helping Lin Ye clean his face, Jiang Lian walked back to the sink to wash his hand again. Lin Ye was frozen on the spot for a moment before he returned to his senses and turned around.
His original purpose was to not face Jiang Lian’s fans, but unexpectedly, the moment he turned around, he was met with a very familiar face that was extremely close to him/
Lin Ye instinctively took a step back, recognizing that the person was Wen Mian. His blood flowed backward for a moment and his heartbeat sped up. His back was already drenched in cold sweat from that short moment.
He did not speak.
Wen Mian looked at Lin Ye quietly.
After a short moment of looking at each other, Wen Mian opened his mouth first. His expression was complex, speaking hesitantly, “Jiang Lian and you… the two of you…”
Lin Ye forced himself to be calm, “What?”
Wen Mian’s gaze drifted and landed somewhere behind Lin Ye, looking towards the fans outside the barricade. He sighed, “I understand, I understand everything.”
“It’s a script that the production team forcibly gave the two of you, right? Before Yan Changfei left, they had looked for me and Yan Changfei, but we didn’t agree. However,” He paused, changing the topic, “There’s a saying that’s indeed true.”
He patted Lin Ye’s shoulder, “If you don’t get a CP during a contest like this, you’ll end up failing eventually.”
