- Chapter 48. What Are You Thinking About
The trainees that were trying to stop the fight managed to reach there on time and no fight broke out. The only person who suffered a loss was Zhao Yisheng.
Qi Huan had bumped into someone when going to change his drink. His fruit tea fell onto the floor and the drink that had splashed up dirtied Qi Huan and that person.
He turned around, wanting to apologize when he was met with Zhao Yisheng’s angry face. Probably because of their previous grievances, the other was extremely angry, not even saying a word before he curled up his fist, wanting to punch Qi Huan’s face.
Qi Huan did not have time to avoid the hit. Thankfully, Cheng Chi, who was accompanying him raised his hand to help him block the hit. Although Qi Huan was the one who was the victim at the beginning, he could not stand Zhao Yisheng trying to hit him and taking advantage of the fact that the other was the one who turned violent first, he took the opportunity to punch Zhao Yisheng back while Cheng Chi was holding Zhao Yisheng still.
Everything happened in an instant. When everyone came to their senses, they started to persuade them not to fight, which was the scene Lin Ye and the rest had stumbled upon.
The other trainees had hurriedly stopped the fight. Zhao Yisheng had been the one to start the fight, but he had not even hurt Qi Huan one bit. Instead, he got punched in the eye by Qi Huan.
The staff members rushed to the canteen very quickly and got to know about what happened. Zhao Yisheng covered his eye that was bruising up, trying his best to turn the situation around by using the fact that he got hit.
Although Qi Huan looked like he was very gentle usually, when it came to the critical moment, he was not a pushover. He could only innocently explain, “I thought that I was going to be punched, so I instinctively punched back. I didn’t expect that Cheng Chi would suddenly walk over to help me hold him back.”
In consideration that this matter did not have too negative an effect, the staff member in charge of stopping the fight noted down the details of the fight and strictly informed them that they would not allow another fight. If it happened again, they would be kicked out of the competition.
Qi Huan politely agreed. Then, he turned around and saw that Zhao Yisheng’s expression was extremely bad, seemingly not having any intention of repenting. Instead, he seemed to be thinking of himself as a victim, looking like he had suffered a grievance by having not been able to get justice for himself.
He looked away, finding Zhao Yisheng to be a joke.
The others that shared a hostel with Qi Huan had originally been worried that the other would do something scary for revenge. However, the next two days of training went by very smoothly and everyone forgot their worry.
Right before the second public performance, the production team no longer organized any activity or filming for the trainees. Everyone was focused on practicing for the public performance.
Lin Ye persevered with his training every day and when the music teacher came to give them their lesson, it was obvious Lin Ye had improved his singing.
The teacher even praised him directly, “You’re a smart child.”
Lin Ye bowed to the music teacher in thanks. But the moment he raised his head, his gaze landed directly on Jiang Lian. He wasn’t considered very smart, and when the teacher said he was a ‘smart child’, it was only because he had accepted Jiang Lian’s help and guidance.
When it was time for the dance teacher to teach, unlike a few days before, he was unable to get the acknowledgment of the teacher in dancing, the skill he was best at.
The dance teacher led the whole group in breaking down the harder group movements in ‘Jungle Moonlight’. Although everyone was on beat in terms of movements, the angles of their dance moves were not coordinated enough.
The teacher stopped to ask, “Have you guys thought about why your group doesn’t have any issue being on beat, but when looking at your dance from other angles, it’s never neat?”
The trainees did not say anything.
“There are three Class A students among eight people here, this is definitely something that other groups do not have. The problem doesn’t lie in your ability. The average ability of your group is not bad. Instead, it is because there are differing standards for each one of you,” The dance teacher looked at them, “From now, the eight of you need to practice using the same person’s movements as a standard.”
The trainees nodded and agreed.
After some discussion, everyone agreed on using Jiang Lian’s dance as the training standard. After they decided on clear standards for the movements, the trainees started to practice their group movements again, and it was much better.
The dance teacher did not give them much time to practice before calling out each individual in the group, doing an impromptu check on their dance movements.
His groupmates did not have much of a problem. When it came to Lin Ye’s turn, the dance teacher was quiet for a long time. Lin Ye, who was originally calm, slowly felt worried when faced with the dance instructor’s long silence.
A moment later, the teacher shook his head and said, “To tell you the truth, when teaching you guys for the first public performance, Lin Ye’s performance made me feel very pleasantly surprised. But this time, your performance disappoints me a little.”
Lin Ye’s heart sunk.
The teacher continued, “For your solo part, it’s not enough to have a solid dance foundation. Good dance skills alone aren’t enough to support this dance. You need an ability to attract people’s attention as well.
Lin Ye asked, “Is it my facial expression?”
The teacher did not shake or nod his head, “Expressiveness isn’t just dependent on your facial expression. Most of the time, we can use our actions to express ourselves better.”
“Expressiveness is closely related to our dance movements,” The dance teacher was very direct, “If you don’t have sufficient expressiveness, I think that anyone can be the lead dancer. It’s not like it has to be you. In terms of ability and attitude, none of your teammates are worse than you.”
After they finished their lesson with the mentor, Lin Ye was feeling quite down. His teammates in the classroom left one after the other, rushing to eat dinner in the canteen.
Lin Ye stayed in the classroom alone, stretching his legs. Xia Dongchan came over to find him to have dinner together after they were done practicing, and Lin Ye lay on the floor lazily, not speaking for a long time.
Xia Dongchan walked over, sitting down cross-legged by his side, a hand supporting his lower jaw. He laughingly asked Lin Ye, “You got scolded by the teacher?”
Lin Ye turned around to glance at him, not admitting it and not denying it.
“Lin Ye, you’ve truly changed a lot,” Xia Dongchan narrowed his eyes, looking at Lin Ye, “When we just came, during the first performance evaluation performance, you didn’t even react to Shen-PD’s criticism.”
He still had a smile on his face, but it seemed to have some deeper meaning behind it, “But now, you’re even losing your appetite for dinner because of a mentor’s comments.”
Lin Ye’s expression froze, the scene of the first performance evaluation appearing in his mind. He realized that it seemed like it had happened very long ago, yet at the same time, felt like it had just happened yesterday.
“I didn’t say that I’m not eating dinner,” After a long while, he smiled and stood up, patting at his pants. He reached out a hand to Xia Dongchan, who was sitting on the floor and not moving, “Let’s go, we still need to eat dinner.”
After returning from dinner, not everyone was in the classroom. He had a few teammates correcting each other’s dance moves, and it was very quiet, there was no backing music playing.
Lin Ye sat at the back of the classroom, quietly observing. When they took a break, he walked over and asked them about their opinion on expressiveness.
“Expressiveness on stage… I don’t know how to describe it, it’s quite abstract,” After his teammate said that, he gently comforted Lin Ye, “The teacher is too strict about your performance. Your expressiveness is fine, it’s much better than mine.”
Lin Ye smiled in response.
The other changed the topic again, “However, although I don’t know how to explain it, I can give you an example,” He thought about it for a moment. “Take Jiang Lian as an example.”
When he heard Jiang Lian’s name, Lin Ye raised his gaze suddenly.
The teammate asked, “When you see Jiang Lian dance, what do you think?”
Lin Ye’s expression was one of pondering.
Without waiting for Lin Ye’s response, his teammate added, slightly embarrassed, “Although I don’t know if you feel the same way, every time I see him dance, I have a heart-thumping feeling. It’s not completely because I think that his dancing is very explosive and attractive. It’s more of the feeling of impulse, of wanting to stand on stage and dance my heart out.”
Lin Ye said, “I can understand.”
His teammate was surpricsed, “Can you really?”
Lin Ye nodded, “I have that sort of feeling too.”
His teammate showed an expression of understanding, and could not help but sigh, “It’s probably Jiang Lian’s special form of expressiveness.”
Their conversation quickly ended and his teammate was once again engrossed in training. He did not stay in the large classroom any longer, turning around to head to the small classroom alone.
When he pushed the door and entered, he found that Jiang Lian was also inside. The camera at the corner was switched off. It seemed that ever since the night he and Jiang Lian did it in the classroom, the camera in the small classroom had never been switched on again.
Jiang Lian had one leg bent so that his foot was flat against the ground, while the other was straightened. He was sitting under the window and playing with his phone. The light from above his head shone on his handsome features, showing his handsome features, but hiding the expression in his eyes. It was like he was frozen in time.
Lin Ye was a little distracted as he looked at Jiang Lian. He stood in the doorway, not moving. He did not even realize it when Jiang Lian walked to stand in front of him.
The other suddenly reached out to pull him into the classroom, pressing him to the wall at the side of the door, “Why are you in a daze?”
Suddenly brought under the bright light, Lin Ye was slightly in a daze. His gaze could not help but move towards Jiang Lian’s handsome brow, as well as Jiang Lian’s dark and sharp eyes under his brows.
“If you’re thinking about what the teacher said,” Jiang Lian reached up to move away the small hairs on Lin Ye’s forehead, his fingertips slowly trailing across Lin Ye’s forehead, his voice deep, “What he said isn’t wrong. The requirements for the lead dancer are different from an ordinary trainee. In his mind, you’ve already met the requirements for a normal trainee, but you haven’t reached the requirements for a lead dancer in his heart.”
Lin Ye was silent for two seconds, before saying in a low voice, “I wasn’t thinking about what the teacher said.”
Jiang Lian heard those words and his gaze landed on Lin Ye’s face, “What were you thinking about, then?”
Lin Ye froze, quietly opening his mouth, “I was thinking that the dinner today did not seem very tasty.”
