Disaster Strikes - Chapter 33:
Chapter 33: Real combat
It was a strange feeling.
Ku Wu felt as though his curved blade fell on the body of Dr. Terror but as if it were striking a thick layer of leather he felt a sensing of faint rebounding sensation.
The hunched and unkempt old man leapt backward to see his inconsequential wound while emitting a low and strange laugh. His mutated and reinforced rhinoceros skin was sufficient to resist the majority of blade and sword attacks. Yet this intruder had managed to wound him indicating his commendable strength.
Immediately he swung his right hand fiercely.
When Dr. Terror’s right hand extended it appeared entirely normal, however by the time it appeared in front of Ku Wu it had transformed into a dreadful claw, resembling the limb of some ferocious bird with its enormous claw tip resembling a sharp steel blade passing in front of Ku Wu’s body.
With a “pu” sound, accompanied by an unusual sensation in his chest Ku Wu vaguely felt several deep wounds appearing in his chest almost to the bone. Before the pain could fully register he looked at the light-brain data chip prompt and upon seeing that his health had dropped by -35 points, he was instantly horrified.
However, this was not the end.
As the energy surged on the surface of Dr. Terror’s body, the biceps of his arms suddenly swelled like balloons while his mouth split open to an astonishing degree revealing a set of jagged and sharp white teeth inside.
“Jie Jie!”
With an unclear and eerie laugh he began to wildly swing his arms, resembling the attacking claws of a ferocious bird, continuously crossing and striking in the air. In a brief moment he swung four times in front of Ku Wu, with Dr. Terror’s final blow penetrating with full force Ku Wu was blasted out about four to five meters, heavily hitting the cement floor.
This was one of Dr. Terror’s regular skills, the Lv1 Continuous attack.
As for his claw transformation, it was achieved through biochemical experiments becoming a passive ability similar to a talent.
In an instant, after Ku Wu who had suffered consecutive attacks from the Dr. Terror landed, he was weakened resembling a bloodied person with all his attributes halved.
The Dr. Terror clearly understood the essence of injuring ten fingers being inferior to breaking one. Seeing Ku Wu who had been blasted away by his attack still alive, his eyes suddenly transformed into a dark red color. A powerful psychic force enveloped a piece of metal debris behind him slowly floating it up, then this piece of debris shot towards Ku Wu at an astonishing speed.
“Ku Wu!”
At this critical moment, it was unexpectedly Tao Zi who stepped forward taking this deadly blow for Ku Wu.
“Tao Zi.”
Ku Wu struggled “I am already in a weakened state. Don’t mind me. Go deal with those lackeys, try to earn more points and become stronger!”
Tao Zi naturally wouldn’t abandon him.
She protected Ku Wu while wielding her dagger fiercely, like a mother leopard preventing the black-clothed lackeys from approaching. Fortunately, the biochemical beasts noticed the situation and quickly pulled the two behind them, protecting them which temporarily kept them out of danger.
At this moment Lei Wu’s chaotic interference effect finally ended.
During the mind interference just now, his mind was like a copper bell violently struck continuously producing high-frequency vibrations, a kind of control-type skill that prevented his skills from accurate targeting.
However at this moment Dr. Terror had already rushed to his front.
Dr. Terror did not choose to continue targeting Ku Wu because he clearly knew that the invader in front of him was the most threatening. His attack strength was far beyond comparison with the other invaders and he knew had to deal with this person first.
As for the bio-beasts, they might be terrifying to others but in front of him they were insignificant, he didn’t care about them at all!
This was one of his research results in recent days. He was trying his best to control these monsters and turn them into warriors like the bio-humans.
Seeing Dr. Terror’s dreadful claws tearing through the air, Lei Wu immediately launched his Thunder Light Bomb skill at doctor.
The terrifying claws landed on Lei Wu’s chest, causing him to grunt involuntarily. Unlike Ku Wu, who was highly immune to pain, Lei Wu seemed quite sensitive. His face changed immediately and the piercing pain made him involuntarily clutch his chest tightly, retreating.
Fortunately his green-quality clothing had a defense rating of up to 7 points. Coupled with the additional health from his hat and shoes, the attack from Dr. Terror was still within an acceptable range for him.
This was also the first time in his life that he had suffered such a severe injury!
Fortunately, Lei Wu’s Thunder Light Bomb skill happened to trigger his Thunder Paralysis talent. As Dr. Terror who was about to pursue him paralysed for a moment Lei Wu took the opportunity to create some distance and then released another basic elemental attack.
An amazing scene unfolded.
A protective shield appeared once again on the surface of Dr. Terror’s body, successfully blocking Lei Wu’s elemental attack. However, the strength of this shield was noticeably weaker than the previous one.
After just one attack the protective shield on Dr. Terror’s body flickered dimly, indicating that it was on the verge of breaking.
“Hehe!”
Dr. Terror looked at Lei Wu with an excited and frenzied expression, his eyes filled with undisguised fervour.
“Kid, I’ve taken a liking to your lightning ability. Just obediently stay here and become the experimental material for this doctor! Why should my research only receive limited support from the organization just because it’s one level lower? I can only get some ordinary people as live biological specimens, while he can get so many martial artists and ability users as live biological specimens. Now that you’ve come to me on your own this time I will use you as live experimental material to prove that I’m not inferior to that old bastard!”
After speaking, he chased after Lei Wu with faster speed.
Before reaching Lei Wu his psychic attack had already been launched. Lei Wu grunted as he was hit by the attack. At this moment his strongest attack skill the Twin Thunder Burst had also formed.
As long as the Twin Thunder Burst could paralyze him, Lei Wu would take the opportunity to create more distance between them.
Although this Dr. seemed to possess both long-range psychic attack and melee combat skills Lei Wu had already figured it out. His long-range attacks were merely supplementary, his real main killing power lay in close combat. As an elemental mage, he was most afraid of close combat.
The twin-colored lightning balls flickered and exploded on the Dr. Terror.
After releasing his strongest attack, Lei Wu’s energy value rapidly decreased. Without waiting to see the result of the attack he retreated trying to create more distance between them.
However Dr. Terror chased after him at an even faster speed. The Twin Thunder Burst did not trigger Lei Wu’s Thunder Paralysis talent.
“Jie Jie!” Dr. Terror let out a strange cry and a familiar scene replayed.
He began to wildly swing his arms, resembling the attacking claws of a ferocious bird continuously crossing and striking in the air. After attacking Lei Wu’s chest four times in a row he finally swung forward with his last strike forcefully propelling Lei Wu.
Seeing his health drop by more than half in an instant, Lei Wu’s current appearance was completely different from Lei Wu’s usual aloof and cold demeanour. His face was incredibly pale and even his hand retrieving a small green bottle of potion from his storage space trembled slightly indicating extreme nervousness. Without any hesitation, he swallowed it down in one gulp.
Only after his health value returned to a safe level did Lei Wu breathe a sigh of relief. In that moment just now, he had felt the threat of death. He didn’t want to die, he still had wishes to fulfil. He wanted to surpass his father, become as great as his grandfather and be the glory of the family!
Because of this brief delay, Dr. Terror was already close to him again, his claws slashing towards Lei Wu with terrifying speed.
Seeing this scene Ku Wu, Han Xue, Tao Zi and others were somewhat incredulous. Lei Wu had actually made such a basic mistake!
He had not taken the opportunity to create distance but instead chose to take the potion. He only needed to create some distance delay for a bit with some kiting tactics and perhaps the traveller would have solved the situation with the assistant researcher and come to help him.
Now, being close to Dr. Terror again how much time could just one bottle of potion buy him?
Moreover judging from his injuries, he still had a significant amount of health left. This decision was almost equivalent to wasting his opportunity, shifting from an advantaged position to a disadvantaged position.
They couldn’t understand Lei Wu’s life experiences. This seemingly incredibly powerful starving ghost was born into a family established by a Disaster Lord, which is his grandfather. Although the family had quite a few third-generation descendants, the love and attention he received did not diminish because of this. It was all because of the outstanding talent and immense potential he displayed. Lei Wu was personally sent to the Disaster Academy by his father.
Despite being excellent in the eyes of outsiders since childhood and despite possessing strong abilities and rich theoretical knowledge, even inheriting his grandfather’s ambitious aspirations, he has always wanted to surpass his father and become the glory of the family. However, he had never experienced real brutal combat. After all, the living environment he was in had separated him from the cruelty faced by most starving ghosts.
He had never even experienced a serious injury and all his combat experience was just talk on paper!
Relying on absolute strength to crush those weaker than him was naturally more than enough. However when facing a strong enemy, facing life and death battle, he suddenly felt somewhat inadequate and appeared somewhat panicked.
Fortunately at this moment, Han Xue finally killed the black-clothed lackey in front of her.
Seeing Lei Wu’s vulnerability under Dr. Terror’s attack, she gritted her teeth and rushed towards Dr. Terror without regard for her own safety. Her thin body and the pitiful dagger compared to Dr. Terror’s dreadful claws, seemed quite pitiful. But at this moment, even delaying for a little bit for Lei Wu would increase the odds of their side winning.
Otherwise once Lei Wu died, the next tasks would probably be even more difficult.
