Disaster Strikes - Chapter 39:
“How is it? Any discoveries?”
Chen Mo and the others felt dizzy from all the colourful test tubes and various instruments in the laboratory. They walked past jars containing various human organs finally stopping in front of a glass tank about a meter high.
Inside the glass tank filled with a light green liquid, a woman was curled up like a baby floating quietly. Her light golden hair was scattered like water plants and she wore a breathing machine with several tubes connected to her body.
This scene made Chen Mo think of a scene from a sci-fi horror movie afraid that she might suddenly open her eyes and look at him.
“No, it seems like Dr. Terror didn’t even have the idea of researching an antidote.”
Xiao Ya’s voice was a bit remorseful as if she could already see the disappointed eyes of the bio-beasts. She didn’t know how to tell them this hopeless news.
Chen Mo comforted, “We did our best.”
“Mm.” Xiao Ya tried hard to make herself strong and didn’t cry out loud.
Seeing everyone looking at the woman in the glass tank, seeming to think that others have the intention of releasing her she quickly advised “This is Dr. Terror’s second-generation biochemical test subject. Although I didn’t participate and can’t directly describe her danger, I heard that for this experiment two junior lab assistants in the base had already died accidentally. So it’s best not to release her to prevent any accidents”
Hearing Xiao Ya’s words, Chen Mo looked pensive.
If he had been able to keep that assistant of Dr. Terror before, the rewards he could have gained after entering the biochemical laboratory would have been quite substantial. It’s even possible that this so-called second-generation biochemical test subject would have been one of the rewards, becoming a kind of summoned beast. What a pity.
In the current situation, it’s better to listen to Xiao Ya and not provoke this dangerous test subject.
Immediately after Xiao Ya opened the cryogenic storage device. With a cold white mist, she carefully took out several bottles of reagents.
“These are all conventional therapeutic reagents. Take a look, do you need any?”
Upon hearing this, everyone glanced at each other and picked up the reagents. Although due to lack of identification the specific properties of the reagents cannot be known and the natura disasters cannot take them or they will be ineffective after taking them. However since they can withstand the erosion of disaster energy and can be placed in a storage space, it indicates that these reagents have magical properties needed in the Disaster world and are not made of ordinary materials.
Seeing this Chen Mo hurriedly asked, “Miss Xiao Ya, these reagents do have a effect on us. Are there any more?”
There were only seven bottles and everyone couldn’t even get two bottles each they naturally feeling a bit unwilling.
“No more.”
Xiao Ya sighed, “There were quite a few here a few days ago but yesterday Dr. White’s base took away a lot. I heard that there seemed to be a lot of casualties over there, and there was an urgent need for therapeutic drugs.”
After Xiao Ya said this everyone understood the specific situation and did not ask further.
“Here!”
But then Xiao Ya said, “These are the cellular damage recovery reagents you were looking for before but you must explain the side effects of the reagents to your friends.”
These are two bottles of light red reagents. After receiving the reagents, Chen Mo handed them to Lei Wu. Lei Wu said lightly, “Each of us gets one bottle of the therapeutic reagent, give the extras to them.” By “them” Lei Wu naturally meant the martial artists.
Just like Chen Mo and his group attacking the hive organization the adult starving ghosts led by Gao Shu would definitely pursue the three martial artists. According to Xiao Ya, Dr. White’s base took away a bio-human late last night, obviously a tracker with tracking ability, intending to find clues to the martial artists.
Otherwise in this huge tropical forest finding the three hidden martial artists would undoubtedly be like finding a needle in a haystack. Wonder how the three martial artists are doing now.
At this moment, Chen Mo suddenly remembered something and asked with some hope “There are so many materials here. If we release the male researcher in the warehouse can he help us to develop some useful reagents?”
Upon hearing this Xiao Ya didn’t even turn her head and said. “This is Dr. Terror’s advanced laboratory. At least a senior researcher would be needed to access the relevant knowledge. He is only a junior researcher and would not have access to the knowledge of the reagents here. If Dr. Terror’s two assistants were still alive, they might be able to mix some useful things.”
Chen Mo shook his head and sighed at the words.
Although he regretted it in that situation how could he have possibly held back?
“What a pity.”
Han Xue made a rational judgment “If we all unite and came here we would have a great chance.”
By the situation she mentioned, she naturally meant those several adult starving ghosts who chose to join the Hive organization.
The reality is, if they hadn’t killed the assistant, by now they would probably all have died under Dr. Terror’s claws. After confirming that there was little to gain in this laboratory they began to look for other supplies. Soon, they screamed as if they had discovered a new continent. Xiao Ya was also startled.
When she turned to look Chen Mo and the others were sitting in Dr. Terror’s private dining room crying and feasting seemingly feeling incredibly happy with the food, as if they had come to heaven, ignoring their injuries.
After Xiao Ya was puzzled for a moment, although she didn’t understand, she no longer paid attention.
She certainly wouldn’t understand the excitement of the natural disasters who ate nutrient paste every day, seeing such a variety of delicious ingredients.
“Get more!”
“There’s smoked sausage over there!”
The group now full and satisfied were still unwilling to stop desperately sweeping up the food in the hall.
Unfortunately, these ingredients couldn’t be placed into the storage space, so they couldn’t take much. They also couldn’t be brought back to the Disaster world, so they could only be used as food for the next two days of the mission.
It wasn’t until Xiao Ya patiently searched the entire biochemical laboratory that she finally gave up completely.
“Let’s go. I will personally tell them about this matter.”
With Chen Mo’s comfort, the group left the underground laboratory.
However, just as they opened the soundproof iron door, they heard the roar of battle not far away in the forest outside the base. Obviously the support from Dr. White’s base had arrived but was ambushed by the bio-beasts and both sides were engaged in fierce combat.
Normally, they wouldn’t miss such an opportunity to earn points.
However, at this moment, everyone was at their weakest. Although they had recovered slightly, it had only been about an hour, and they were far from fully recovered. Chen Mo had only recovered less than 20 points of health and had just recovered from a weakened state.
“Let’s wait here for a bit.”
Although the group was worried, they had no choice but to hide and remain vigilant. After about a few minutes, the battle in the forest gradually subsided.
It wasn’t until the bio-beasts walked out of the forest one by one that the group stood up from their hiding place and regretfully told them that they hadn’t found the antidote in the laboratory.
Although the bio-beasts were mentally prepared, their disappointment was still evident.
At this moment, Chen Mo and the others didn’t know what to say to persuade the bio-beasts and could only give them some time to adapt, while Xiao Ya kept comforting them softly.
Several people then went to the battlefield. It was a scene of devastation, with bodies everywhere.
Roughly estimating, there were probably no fewer than twenty black-clad lackeys here and two black-clad elite lackeys, who were now all corpses. The combat power of these biochemical beasts was indeed formidable.
However after experiencing two consecutive battles, these bio-beasts were also more or less injured. Today, they were probably unable to fight anymore.
After searching for a while, the group only found one intact white-quality piece of equipment, while the rest had been violently torn apart by the bio-beasts. It was clear that in order to protect the people in the biochemical laboratory, these bio-beasts had used all their strength.
“What are your plans?”
After giving the bio-beasts some time to adapt, Chen Mo took the initiative to ask.
The half-lion man said fiercely “Our current situation is all thanks to the Hive organization. Unless we find the antidote, it’s impossible for us to return to human society. And for the rest of our lives, all we have is one thing, revenge against the hive organization!”
After speaking, he let out a roar of defiance towards the sky.
The other bio-beasts also responded one after another, their anger hard to contain.
“There are several investigators in the forest who are responsible for diverting the pursuers from Dr. White’s base. How about we join forces? Strength in numbers. Let’s attack Dr. Whitet’s secret base together, this way-”
Before Chen Mo could finish his sentence, the half-lion man interrupted, “No need.”
He then said with sadness, “Perhaps what those black-clad lackeys said is right. We are becoming more and more like beasts especially after leaving the base and entering the forest. In the battles with those black-clad lackeys, our emotions have become increasingly uncontrollable. Hatred and anger are making us lose control. If we were to be with you again I’m afraid I would gradually lose control of my beastly nature and harm you.”
The half-lion man spoke with a particularly serious expression. “Please take care of Miss Xiao Ya and don’t let us get close to her again.”
Upon hearing this, Xiao Ya burst into tears, hugging the huge lion head tightly and her tears fell on its mane.
After some time, the bio-beasts gradually disappeared into the dense jungle.
Chen Mo and the others to be cautious chose a more remote direction and planned to take a detour to the meeting point they had agreed upon with the martial artists yesterday.
This time, they walked for several hours and needless to say it was a difficult and arduous journey.
Fortunately the wonderful food plundered from the base accompanied them all the way and everyone didn’t feel tired. On the contrary they traveled very comfortably. It seemed that even the speed of recovery from their injuries had increased, maybe perhaps due to the high-quality ingredients.
When everyone arrived at the agreed location, night had already fallen. Carefully investigating the surroundings they found no ambushes but also no trace of the martial artists which made Chen Mo and the others frown slightly.
“What’s going on?”
“Could it be that they were completely wiped out?”
Everyone speculated and guessed. It was so late and no one had appeared yet. Plus, Gao Shu and the others had already joined the hive camp. Even if the three martial artists were wiped out, it wouldn’t be surprising.
After a while, a noise from the forest made everyone alert. It wasn’t until they confirmed that the newcomers were martial artists and not members of the hive organization that the tense and vigilant group finally breathed a sigh of relief.
However, what surprised everyone was that there was only one person among the newcomers.
This person was Zhang Qiang, the martial artist who excelled in boxing.
“Xuan Zong was captured by them and Yan Nan in order to kill the tracker bio-human was surrounded and died in their siege. I was the only one who escaped, sob…”
This muscular and short man burst into tears in front of everyone. Obviously, he had witnessed his companions die one after another and had endured too much psychological pressure unable to suppress his emotions any longer.
“was Xuan Zong captured back? Will they kill him?”
Chen Mo’s face changed as he asked. Was the medicine that everyone had worked so hard to get back going to be wasted like this?
“No they seem to want to continue their experiments with Xuan Zong, so they didn’t kill him. Only Yan Nan in order to protect me was surrounded and killed after killing the tracker bio-human.”
Zhang Qiang said tearfully. Upon hearing this, Chen Mo’s face was heavy.
On the side, Xiao Ya gently handed the food in her hand to Zhang Qiang and began to bandage his wounds.
After a moment of contemplating Chen Mo said softly “The only good news is that Xuan Zong is not dead. He was taken back to Dr. White’s base. If we can find Xuan Zong in Dr. White’s base the medicine will still be useful.”
After a rational analysis, Chen Mo came to this conclusion.
