Distorted World: Rise Of The Black One - Volume 3 Chapter 102 12
Pillars of red light fill the sky and ground of Avalon in a crimson glitter, the pillars of light twirl around bathing the world in it’s glamour like a young ballerina dancing on her first contest
The heat of the moment is enough to warm up the coldest winter night it makes you think that even the brightest stars couldn’t compete with it and the fire it burns will never be snuffed out
“Ar: what the hell!? Did one of the named activate their artifact?”
Arias covered her eyes unable to bear the light piercing her pupils
(Ar: no, the magic wavelength is different to what the others possess, so is this some unknown defensive mechanism of Avalon)
“Ar: no…I’ve learned the ins and outs of this city for the last 5 months and there’s nothing that could emit this much magical power”
(Ar: wait, what’s it doing?)
Arias sensed something coming
The pillars crashed down upon the city completely dissipating the purple mist and filling the city instead with a red wave of light that passes through everything in it’s path
The wave of light disintegrated all of the invaders that it touches and did no harm to the citizens evacuating
“Ar: it’s only hurting us? Oh shi…”
The light engulfed Arias
The casualty on the attacking side reached half
1200>600 left
“As: step two: eliminate exactly half of the enemy. Check”
Asher wrote in his notes
“E: ahh the scale is now perfectly balanced as all things should be” (author-San: you don’t need me to point out what this is referencing, right?)
Elise had a satisfied expression
“As: Our suspicions were right, Arias is one of the Tricobrial Hydrallisk’s “named children” and she’s a good one too”
(As: from what I’ve been able to gather: there are 4 ranks in the hierarchy of this organization the 3rd children who are these scouts and cannon fodders they use to appraise their enemy’s might the 2nd children which are their main force and the 1sts otherwise known as the “named” are their collective aces, Arias is probably one of those “named”, finally there’s the “octagons” which is the ruling body of this organization)
“As: the trap worked perfectly”
“E: of course it did it took at least 40 try’s for each of those after all”
Elise said
(As: the Regulus magic formula, otherwise known as the tablet visioni zmaragdinae is one of the forefathers of alchemy created by Ducibus Debebantur Alchimia Regulus, with the sole purpose of mastering the use of matter manipulation and it’s connection to magic…it’s function is very simple: materializing the densest form of magicol in the universe, magicyte)
(As: for as powerful as mages are we suffer from multiple limitations with our power, for example: Magic is only as powerful as the user’s mind and spirit and there’s only so much magic a simple spell can take before resulting in a backfire etc. but with a single milligram of magicyte all of those limitations can be overcome and a simple low level spell can turn into a devastating force of nature)
(As: usually an intermediate level mage like me and Elise can never hope to pull off such a high level ritual, but I just happened to choose the best possible partner, or more accurately she chose me to help her)
(As: Elise is one of the one in a million of one in a million people that can directly tap into magicyte naturally and that made our job much easier)
(As: it took 40 try’s each after that initial success but we managed to create three small pebbles of materialized magicyte and placed it all around Avalon where the cult was going to be)
(As: the spell we imprinted onto those magicyte stones were simple: destroy all those who’s magic the stone is not attuned to (I.e: everyone who’s not from Avalon))
“As: how long do you think it’s gonna take for them to respond?”
Asher asked
“E: 10…no, that’s too generous 5 minutes if we’re lucky”
When the lights cleared a barrier can be seen around Arias
“Ar: what the hell? Who could have had the power to do this? *cough*”
She cancelled her barrier to check on her troops
(Ar: we’ve lost more than half of our scouts, this is bad if we don’t do something quick the main force will be met with an unexpected ambush)
“Ar: rally all remaining troops and take defensive positions around Avalon, do not let a single person escape the residential area even if it cost you your life, do not by any means enter the city, once the main force arrives our victory will be assured”
Arias ordered both verbally and through her telepathy
“Yes ma’am”
“Ar: Rex is not gonna be happy”
Meanwhile…
“E: see, I told you”
“As: with only Arias and one other named child in the city their forces will be spread thin trying to surround us, if we attack now they will be decimated even if they flank us”
“E: time to call in Regis?”
Elise asked
“As: yep, send the signal”
Asher said sitting down
A flare was shot in the sky exploding into the symbol of the coalition
“Re: that’s our cue brothers! To battle!”
Regis screamed followed by the cheers of the students
(As: in war the one with more troops always wins)
1000+ students vs 600 or so cultists
“E: you wanna join the battle?”
“As: nah that’s what the first and second years are for, I’m having the third years and the rest of the coalition on standby for the main course”
Asher shrugged
“E: you’re waiting for “him” aren’t you?”
“As: yep…”
“E: you really think we can beat someone who was once considered my mother’s equal?”
“As: his condition should even out the playing field for us and also…our goal isn’t to beat him but to hold him back up until the principal gets back”
“E: what if he uses “that”?”
“As: well…you still have that last piece of magicyte we made right?”
“E: yes, but the chances of success is flimsy”
“As: can’t hurt to try…and if we do fail, well…that just means we weren’t worth much to begin with”
“E:…I hope you’re right”
